Each new year is like a blank notebook, waiting for us to fill it with wonderful stories and growth. People can improve their lives in many meaningful ways. So I am going to make clear resolutions that I will try my best to keep.

The first one is about taking up a new hobby. I am going to join the school dancing club next term. In my opinion, this resolution will not only make me happy but also bring joy to the people around me.

I am also going to get fitter and healthier next year. Besides jogging for 30 minutes every morning, I plan to do push-ups for at least 15 minutes every evening after finishing my homework. Katie is part of a programme (计划). It teaches young people how to be pilots (飞行员). Another student, Evie Nesselrode, is also in the programme. Although they go to different schools, they learn to fly together. They become good friends and form strong relationship.

Steaming is one of the oldest and healthiest ways to cook food. People have steamed food for thousands of years, using simple pots. Today, it's still very popular all over the world.

You put a little water in a pot and bring it to a boil (around 100℃). The boiling water makes steam-hot water vapour (蒸气). You place the food over the water, not in it, on a special plate or basket with holes (孔). The steam rises and cooks the food softly. A tight lid (紧密的盖子) keeps the steam inside the pot.

Why is steaming good? It's easy for beginners. Next, steaming needs no oil or fat, so food is lower in calories (卡路里). It also keeps more nutrients (营养成分) inside vegetables compared to boiling them in water. Also, the steam cooks food softly. Boiling or frying can make food hard or dry. More importantly, steaming lets the food's delicious flavour come through.

Do you ever wish your pet could talk? Well, some animals on the Internet are doing just that. With the help of their owners a lot of training and some special buttons (按钮), pets are learning to "talk" in their own ways.

A popular pet right now is Merlin, an 8-month-old mini pig. People call him "the world's smartest pig". His owner, Mina Alali, put videos of him using buttons to communicate online. Each button has a different word, like "walk" or "food". Merlin presses (按) them to let Mina know what he wants.

Merlin isn't the only pet to learn this cool skill! Some pet dogs, cats, horses, monkeys and even parrots have all been doing the same. Bunny the Talking Dog is another star online with over 8 million followers. She can use over 50 buttons to make sentences and ask questions, though it sometimes takes her owner a while to understand what she means. However, for a pet, it's still amazing!

So, how do you teach a pet to "talk"?

First, get some buttons you can record your voice on. Then, use words your pet hears often, like"treat", "walk", or "play". Say the words clearly many times before you press the buttons. For example, "Want a TREAT? Let's get a TREAT!" Next, put the buttons in a quiet, easy-to-reach place. At last, teach your pet to press it with a paw (爪) or nose. Reward (奖励) them by giving them a real treat when they try!

It takes a lot of time and patience (耐心), and not every pet can learn to do it. But that's okay. Even without buttons, your pets can show their love to you in their own special ways!

In 2017, a famous painting called A Thousand Li of River and Mountains was on show at the Palace Museum in Beijing. This 900-year-old artwork attracted (吸引) lots of people. Among them was Gui Haowen, then a 16-year-old high school student.

Gui took some photos with her phone, but they didn't show the painting's beauty well. This made her want to learn more about photography and start taking pictures of cultural relics (文物).

However, taking photos in museums isn't easy. Museums don't let visitors use flash or tripods (闪光灯或三脚架), and the lights are often not very bright. "Taking a clear photo in those conditions is difficult," Gui said. But she didn't give up. She tried to be creative. For example, when she took a photo of a silver bowl, she used the shadows (阴影) to make it look like an ink painting.

Gui didn't just take photos. She also studied the history of cultural relics. By understanding the stories, she could take better photos of them. Gui visited around 60 museums and took countless pictures. Whenever she travelled to a new city, a trip to the museum was always at the top of her list.

In 2022, Gui began sharing her cultural relic photos online. Many young people enjoy her works and are becoming more interested in Chinese culture.
