My birthday was going to be special for two reasons. For one thing, nobody had ever turned nine in space before.

Mom, my sister Rebekah, and I were moving to Mars and living there for a year. We'd spent almost two weeks in the spaceship so far. It would take another thirty days before getting there.

I was trying to keep the other reason secret. But the day before my birthday, Rebekah caught me with puffing out my cheeks（鼓起我的脸颊）."Practising blowing out all candles this year?" She laughed.

After dinner on my birthday, Mom floated towards me, carrying my birthday cake. I was amazed. " Candles!" I shouted. "I thought fire wasn't allowed. "

" Look closer, " Mom said. "The candles were electric lights."

" Cool,"I said." But I wish I could blow them out."

" They wouldn't be birthday candles if you couldn't" She blew, and all nine went out. Another puff, and they lit up again.

Another amazing plant is the exploding cucumber（喷瓜）. It has a cool trick. When touched, it shoots seeds up to 6 meters away! Learning from this plant's "body language", medical researchers have developed a new way to send medicine to where it's needed in the body, just as the plants shoot seeds to the right places.

Plants may seem quiet and still, but their special movements have inspired real-world inventions. Next time you see a plant, watch its "body language" carefully; you might catch the next scientific breakthrough!

Fu Zai,a six-month-old corgi（柯基）, is China's first corgi police dog. His story started when he was just one month old.

During a park walk, police dog trainer Zhao Qingshuai called him. Amazingly, little Fu Zai ran straight to Zhao! Zhao tested Fu Zai with simple orders. He found Fu Zai was smarter and braver than other pet dogs. Besides, Fu Zai loved playing with toys and learned orders fast. With his owner's permission, Fu Zai joined Weifang Police Dog Base for further training.

For over four months, Fu Zai trained hard every day. He learned important skills like:

When I was about 10 years old, I started learning cooking by making dough (面团). In my hometown, Ningxia, people often make noodles in the evening. My parents came home late, so if I made the dough early, we could have dinner sooner.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee began in 1925. It is open to students under 16 or under the ninth grade. * In the event, spellers take turns trying to spell a word no one else has tried. First they must pronounce it right, and then they have two minutes to spell it out loudly. If they spell it right, they keep staying in the spelling bee. 

Som a is a seventh grader. He enjoys reading and playing basketball, badminton, ping-pong, and the drum. He joined in the spelling bee twice before. In 2022, he got 163rd place, and last year he got 74th place. He got $50, 000 for his win this year. 

Som a and Faiza n Zaki, from Texas, went to the final round. Som a got the first place by spelling 29words right, seven more than the earlier winner in 2022. Zaki won the second by spelling 20 words. "I'm really excited, " Som a said. "I'm happy my dream comes true. "

Some boys go out for a hike in NorthDakota. They find the fossil(化石) of ayoung Tyrannosaurus rex(T. rex霸王龙). 

Jessin Fisher and his brother Liam are traveling with their dad, Sam, and their 9-year-old cousin Kaiden Madsen. They find a big bone(骨头) coming out of the dirt(泥土).

The Jining-Datong-Yuanping High-speed Railway became operational (运营的) on Tuesday. This marks the beginning of a direct high-speed rail line between Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. 

The 309-kilometer line is  for trains running at up to 250 kilometers per hour, and runs between Ulaanqab in Inner Mongolia and Yuanping in Shanxi. There  nine stops and the line cuts the travel time between Hohhot and Taiyuan by nearly 2 hours.
