(Alan wrote a social media post about one of his favorite books.)

Do you like reading? What is your favorite book? I'm Alan. Sitting in a chair by the shelf, I listen to novelists telling stories, and poets reading aloud from their works and saying things that inspired (鼓舞) them. Sometimes, I see teachers doing drawings in front of wide-eyed schoolchildren. 

My friend Natalie once recommended the book The Journey to me, and I'm very glad as I read it. It is my favorite book and I couldn't put it down. I like it because the main character, Lucy, and the story encourage me and make me strong. The story is about Lucy moving across the country to a new town and trying to fit in. She has a hard time making friends because she is a newcomer. I can understand Lucy because I also moved to a new town. Lucy is so strong and is able to finally make many new friends, including her best friend. The book describes Lucy's feelings and the difficulties she faces. 

The Changjiang River, also known as the Yangtze River, is one of the longest rivers in the world. It is important to the Chinese people and is often called the "mother river". It is not just a natural wonder—it is also a symbol of the Chinese nation. 

Nowadays, the Yangtze River National Cultural Park comes into view. How to protect Yangtze River culture and improve cultural confidence is a new task for the places near the Yangtze River. 

The Yangtze River National Cultural Park, which is also an important "National Park" project, goes across 13 provinces with 841 national-level intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) projects, 465 historical and cultural cities, towns, and villages, as well as 91 national-level museums. It expresses China's traditional, revolutionary (革命的), and socialist advanced cultures. 

With over 2,200 years' history, Jiujiang plays an important part in the Yangtze River National Cultural Park. To protect Yangtze River culture, Jiujiang creates the "Most Beautiful Yangtze River Bank". Jiujiang makes it possible that the park not only protects cultural heritage but also further improves the quality of people's life there. The park turns Jiujiang into a place where visitors can learn more about historical stories and enjoy natural beauty. It also helps local communities by creating jobs in tourism. 

The Yangtze River National Cultural Park project carries great meaning for the Chinese nation. The project is based on the rich cultural resources (资源). The Yangtze River National Cultural Park project holds value in many fields such as water resources protection, social development and educational programs for students. It draws a new painting and shows harmony (和谐) between nature, the people and the cities. 

Joss Naylor is a sheep farmer from the Lake District. Among most people, his name means little, but in certain circles, he is known as one of the finest mountain runners to have ever lived. 

Joss lives and breathes mountains. He has lived and farmed all his life in an area of the Lake District which has many mountains, including the tallest mountain in England. Joss has an almost superhuman ability to run at speed over mountains. However, he wasn't always a mountain runner. As a young man, he was advised to give up farming because of serious back problems. But, when he was 24, he was tired of being told to take it easy. 

Nothing can stop a good man from being better! He continued working and took up running. When he ran his first mountain race, he discovered that he fell in love with it. All his time spent herding (放牧) sheep on the mountains had prepared him for this. 

His achievements are nothing short of famous. For example, he smashed his own record and set a new one. At the age of 49, he ran up 214 mountains. "It is a wonderful experience though the practice is very hard," he said. Many of his runs have raised money for charity, and he is popular in the community. 

He keeps writing and sharing his experiences about his climb. "I want people back home—especially family and friends who support me—to get a real feel for what it's like," he said.

A few years ago, while I was on a cycling (骑自行车) trip in Brazil, I fell off my bike. I 1 my knees a little bit, but the front wheel of my bike was broken badly. It was really a 2 day for me and I needed a helping hand. At that time I remembered seeing a house a few minutes ago, so I 3 my bike and started walking.

Kind Words Make a Difference

We can hear kind words everywhere in our life. 

Mary was a cute girl. When she was 11 years old, she lived in a small town. She loved playing the violin, but she wasn't getting better at it. So she asked her father, John, for help.

The next day, John woke Mary up and took her to run along the road near their home. But soon Mary felt tired. Her dad suggested a rest, for he noticed Mary wanted to give up.

Then, John told a story about himself. When he was a child, he always ran along the road. Many children called the road "Endless Road", because they couldn't run to the end. However, he wanted to see what was waiting at the end of it. So he decided to run a little farther each time. He finally reached the end, tired but excited. There, he found the fantastic scenery (景色) with thick grass and beautiful flowers in front of him.

The story made Mary full of hope. From then on, she kept practicing the violin harder and tried to make a little more progress each day.

Now, Mary becomes a good violinist. Whenever she meets difficulties, she will remember "Endless Road". And she will always keep it in mind.

Here is some advice that can help you remember things better.

 You can try to imagine a picture of something that you are learning in your mind. If you make the picture big, special or funny, you will remember it better.

 It's important to understand something before remembering it, or you will forget it soon. The better you understand it, the more easily you can remember it.

 Try not to remember too much new information all at once. Divide it into several parts. Deal with one part each time. In this way, you can remember it little by little.

 Have healthy eating habits and get enough sleep. They are good for your mind and help to remember things better. So develop good and healthy habits from now on.

 Don't get too worried when you study. If you are overanxious (过度焦虑的), your brain will slow down. Instead, relax and your brain will work well.

Surprising robot

Can you imagine a robot swimming like a fish in the sea? A group of scientists at Westlake University in China have made one. Its name is Sea guru II. In March, 2025, the robot went 2,000 metres under the South China Sea successfully.

Smart Beidou

When you open a map on your phone in China, it is probably guided by the Beidou navigation Satellite System (BDS，北斗卫星导航系统). China started to build the BDS in 

1994. It's never an easy thing. Over 400 teams and more than 300,000 scientists have come together to solve big problems in building it.

Fast train

Do you want to travel on the fastest train in the world? The CR450 made by the China Railway Group is a new high-speed train that can travel at 400 km/h on average (平均). Its highest speed is 453 km/h. Before this, the fastest high-speed train in the world was China's CR400. What's more, CR450 stops quickly and makes little noise. It will further meet people's wishes for a better experience.

①Now foreigners from many countries can stay in China for 240 hours without a visa (签证). The number of foreign visitors is increasing.

②Susan, from Canada, visited Shanghai and Hangzhou. During her stay, she found it was so convenient (便利的) in China. When she ordered food at the hotel, a robot helper would make its way to her room. That saved time. Ordering food became easy for her. When she traveled around the cities, she found there was no need to use cash (现金). She could travel everywhere with just a phone.

Su Shi is widely known to us. He has a  influence on people not only for his poems, but also for his optimistic (乐观的) spirit.

Born in 1037, Su Shi  jinshi (进士) at the age of 20. Not long after he started  for the government, he was punished. He was sent to far and  areas.

Life was hard for Su Shi,  he tried to enjoy it. In 1080, he was sent to Huangzhou and stayed there  four years. He wrote Calming the Waves (《定风波》)there. It showed his hope and  for life in the face of difficulties. It is said that he invented Dongpo pork. It is a famous Chinese dish that is still common on the dining  now. In 1097, he was sent to Danzhou. He wasn't  about the life there, although he couldn't get used to it at first. Later, he set up schools and got along  with the locals.

Today we still love reading Su Shi's poems and look up to him because of his optimism.

Yesterday was the Mid- Autumn Festival. I went out to 1 the celebrations with my best friend, Liu Lin. We saw a wonderful 2 on the Central Square. Liu Lin told me it was called Datiehua (打铁花), a traditional art in China.
