In the afternoon, I went to the park with my best friend, Lily. I told her about my worry. She listened to me and encouraged me to face it bravely. She said growing pains are normal and they can help us make progress. On Sunday morning, I talked to my mom about my pressure. She told me that the process of trying is more important than the result. With their help, I learned to adjust myself. I felt relaxed and confident again—that's my biggest gain. In the evening, I read a book about teenagers' growing stories and then went to bed at 9:30 p. m.

I think growing pains are not terrible. They make me stronger and more confident. Every pain brings a valuable gain. What about your growing pains and gains? Please write to me and tell me.

Everyone loves beautiful things. For example, some like wearing beautiful clothes. Some enjoy planting beautiful flowers. Some prefer making friends who are warm-hearted. Beauty is everywhere in our daily life. Here are some ways to help us find beauty in our life easily.

First, keep curiosity. We meet different things every day. As students, we have different lessons five days a week at school. We need to remember what the teachers say in class. Keeping curiosity is helpful for us to accept new things. And we will learn better because of it.

Second, share our feelings for beauty with others. It can help us to strengthen our own experience and deepen our understanding of beauty. What's more, we can be more active to discover and enjoy the beauty around us.

Another useful way is to slow down. This idea is supported by former Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He thought we lived in a wonderful life and we could find it with our eyes open. So it's important to slow down, pay attention to details, and discover the beauty that we often miss.

In short, beauty is everywhere in our life. As long as we are willing to open our eyes and hearts, we can discover and appreciate (欣赏) beauty.

Many people post things online. Online sharing is a of our daily life now. Different kinds of apps and websites make communication than before. We can share what has happened recently with others. We can also give personal opinions on what we see.

The Internet connects us with friends, family, and people in other countries. Sometimes, when we a prize in a singing competition or do well in a test, we may share the happy news. At times, when we take of beautiful views, we might also post them to share.

However, not everything shared online is kind. Some can be unfriendly. Those unkind words may have unpleasant influences. Maybe people post things without thinking. They just want to play a joke make others laugh. But these are not good reasons.

Good shares can make the online world warm and friendly, while ones can bring trouble to others. So when we want to share something on the Internet, we should ask whether the things we post are proper or not. Think twice sharing. We should be responsible for what we share online. Never make up or anything that is not true. In short, always respect others' feelings. If we can't do that, maybe we're not ready to share online yet.

  • 18、Plastic waste is an increasingly serious problem. Up to now, only 9% of the plastics ever produced have been recycled. The rest remain on earth for hundreds of years. They are washed out into the ocean to become rubbish, harm wildlife and break down into small plastics that can enter our bodies.

Recently, scientists have developed a new method to break down plastic waste with the help of water in the air.The researchers mixed a special metal and activated carbon (活性炭) with PET, the most common type of polyester (聚酯纤维) plastic. Then they heated the composite. After a short time, this broke the chemical connections in the polyester. Next, when the team left the material in the air, the mixture turned into TPA, a polyester material, and acetaldehyde (乙醛), an industrial chemical. Finally, these valuable chemical materials were recycled.

After the first success, researchers tested the method on different plastics and found it worked on polyester plastic only. That meant they didn't need to separate different kinds of plastics. Also, when they added water, it stopped working because the amount (量) of water in the air was just right.

The team's next plan will be to use the method widely in industry.

"It's hopeful that our technology can hugely reduce plastic pollution, lower the environmental footprint of plastics and help materials be reused instead of being thrown away," researchers said. "It's a large change towards a cleaner, greener future, and it shows how creative chemistry can solve world challenges in a way that joins hands with nature."

•Mix egg yolks and sugar to make yolk liquid (蛋黄液).

•Mix light cream and milk with yolk liquid.

•Put the liquid in cups, cover the cups with tin foil (锡纸), and put them into the oven, at a temperature of 160℃.

•Take the cups out of the oven and cool them down in the fridge.

•Put some sugar on them, and then heat them until the sugar turns brown.

Time: 4:00 p.m.—4:30 p.m. on Monday Place: The dining hall Teacher: Miss Zhou

    How it works:

Food coloring dissolves (溶解) in water, but not in oil.
