Volunteers are of great importance in activities. This month, I volunteered at the Color Run in Melbourne for the(one) time. I didn't have as much fun as the runners, but I still learned a lot. 

My job was to give a high-five(击掌) to every runner at the finish line. At the(begin), we saw it as an easy job. But as more and more people came and touched their hands with(I), my arm got uncomfortable(不舒服的). Our clothes were all wet and we felt(tire). I thought it was hard(work) as a volunteer. 

But soon we sawgroup of children running to us. Though(尽管) they were so tired, they still put up their hands and said "High-five! " . They were so youngthey didn't stop. And that did make such a big(different) to me. Soon I felt myself fullstrength(力量). "Good job, little boys!" I said. 

The experience is really important to me and I carry it in my heart (careful). We meet different people, seeing the spirit(精神) that moves us, and the spirit can make us keep going in our life. 

If you like poems(诗), the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, US is a good place for you. There is a night table in the middle of the park. A note on it reads, "Take a poem, leave a poem. "

Amanda Barrows, a 31-year-old park ranger(管理员), thought of an idea. She said, "I never thought people would love the idea. They left over 100 handwritten(手写的) poems on the night table in months. "

Three years ago, Barrows began writing poems. She took a poetry class to keep herself writing. The class asked students to find a way to bring poems into communities. "Why not bring poetry to the city parks where I work?" Barrows thought. Barrows started her work. A friend of hers provided her with an old night table. 

Then Barrows filled the drawer(抽屉) at the top with fresh paper and pencils and added a box at the bottom for poems. Then she asked her friends to help her fill the drawer with their favorite poems for people to take. Finally, she put her idea into practice. 

Barrows planned to leave the night table in one park for four days before moving it to a new park. "I wanted more people to join in the project(项目), " Barrows said. 

"Barrows' project is a great way to bring poems to people. That's why it gets so many likes, " said Lauren, one teacher of the poetry class. 

Do you love reading books?You can read books at home, go to a public library, or even choose from a box called the Little Free Library. 

The Little Free Library is a fun activity you can join in. People build small boxes in front of their houses. They put old books into them. You can take books away. But in return, you need to put some in. American Todd Bol built the first Little Free Library in 2009. 

The little boxes give people free books to read and bring neighbors closer(更近的). It is also great fun to build them with family and friends. It is OK for you to make your box look different and beautiful. 

Brian Kemp works in the US and he owns a big supermarket.  They spent months together making it into a little bookcase.

Katherine Commale is an 11-year-old girl from Pennsylvania. At the age of five she began raising money to buy bed nets(蚊帐) for children in Africa to help stop the spread of malaria(疟疾). 

When she was five, Katherine learned about malaria in Africa. She learned that every 30 seconds a child died from(死于) this disease. She also learned that people wouldn't get that disease if they had enough bed nets. "I was really sad to learn that a child died every half a minute because of malaria, " says Katherine. "I wanted to give bed nets right away, so that's what I did. "

Five-year-old Katherine made speeches(演讲) at schools and other places. She told students and others how important bed nets were for people in Africa. After the speeches, many of them gave away money. Katherine gave the money to NBN. 

NBN is an organization(组织) that sends bed nets to Africa. Every holiday Katherine makes "bed net gift certificate(证书)" with the help of her friends and brothers. On each 10-dollar certificate there is a message. It says that they would give a bed net to Africa. When more certificate orders come, Katherine gets help from students in her school. 

Katherine helped to raise $200, 000 for NBN. "It makes me happy to help children in Africa. I won't stop working until everyone in Africa has a bed net, " says Katherine. 

Some places have snow and ice in the winter. It is cold and great for ice-skating. People living in these places can skate outside. Many people don't live in cold places , but they can also ice-skate. Where do they skate? They can skate in an indoor ice rink(溜冰场). When people skate on the ice , they must wear skates with blades(冰刀) on them. The blades help ice skaters move fast on the ice. Ice-skating can be a lot of fun, but be careful! It's easy for people to fall down on the ice. 

Ice-skating is a fun activity and it's also a popular(受 欢 迎 的 ) sport. Manypeople like watching figure skating(花样滑冰) on TV. There are many national and international competitions(比赛) on TV. Skaters take part in these competitions alone or in pairs. Ice skaters wear special clothes when they take part in competitions, and they skate to music. They look great when they skate on the ice. There are many good skaters and they can do many hard jumps. They make it look easy. A few judges watch each skater and give them points(分数). It takes a lot of practice and hard work to win!

Do you want to be a volunteer? You may need some ideas to get started. Here are just a few. You can pick what you really love to do. 

Help kids learn and grow. Be a big brother or a big sister at an after-school care center. You can help little kids to learn or play with them. 

Give back during the holidays. Serve dinner to the homeless(无家可归的人), volunteer at old people's home, or give out toys to kids. The church and temple may also need your help. 

Help at an animal shelter(收容所). Most shelters need volunteers to keep the cats and dogs happy and well exercised. And when you're walking dogs, you get some exercise, too. 

Protect the earth. Take part in a park clean-up day. Plant a tree in the spring. Join a group to work together to protect the river in your community. 

Help sick(生病的) people. Lots of people have a medical problem. It can make you feel good to donate your time or money to help the people with an illness. When you cheer them up, you also feel happy. 

If you have more than one thing you love, find a way to do them all. With your help, we are sure to have a more beautiful world!

Are you looking for a new way to raise money for charity(慈善机构)? Does your school run out of clever and fun ideas? Don't give up. There are some ways to support your favorite charity. 

How about organizing a car wash? Everyone who has a car needs to wash it. So why don't you and your classmates do the job? The money the car owners pay will go to your charity. When we do it, we have a wonderful time! At first, some of us are worried about getting wet or dirty and it is true. But we also have fun, and at the end of the day it is really worth(值得) it!

On the other hand, if you don't feel like getting wet or dirty, but good at music, how about organizing a street concert(音乐会)? Street musicians can make a lot of money, and so can you if you have the talent and courage(勇气) to play in front of people. You just need to find a nice place, practice(练习) for a few hours with your friends first, and give it a try!

I started to plan the trip to Alamere Falls about one month ago. I searched everything online: the route(路线), the best time to visit, the weather and so on. And finally the big day came!

My friends Janice and Devin came to my home early that Saturday. My mum would drive us to the Point Reyes National Seashore first. At about 7:30 in the morning, we set out! The small car was full of our laughter(笑 声 ). But about 20 minutes after we set out, it started to rain! And we thought the rain wouldn't stop soon. 

The drive was not fast in the morning rain. Mum tried to cheer us up, but we three kids were not happy all the way. Who wanted to walk in the rain?

But when we arrived at the Point Reyes National Seashore, the sun came out through the clouds. It brightened our spirits.As we walked along the Coast Trail, we sang a lot. The sights along the way were beautiful and wonderful. Devin told us excitedly that he saw a group of whales(鲸) in the sea. 

After walking for an hour, we got there. The idea of climbing down to the beach(沙滩) made us worried at first. But Mum found a safe route down the rocky cliff(岩石峭壁). From the beach, we finally saw it: Alamere Falls. This great waterfall dropped 12 meters straight down!

Cleaners and Gardeners(园丁)

We need volunteers for cleaning and gardening at Tang Paradise. Good at taking care of plants. Work from 7:30 a. m. to noon on August 6th and 7th.

A student came to his teacher and asked him, "Sir, I have a question. How many1 should a person have—one or many?"

World Book and Copyright Day is coming and I would like to introduce a book. 

It was a happy time for me, but there were many dangers because of my small size. There were some incidents (事件) that I remembered clearly. 

Every morning Glumdalclitch carried my box to the window. One day she carried me to the window as usual, and then she left me there. Some huge wasps came in through the window, and entered the box. They were the size of birds in England, and they were very fierce (凶猛的). I was afraid of them. I took out my sword and fought against them. I killed four of them. Luckily, the others flew away. 

Another dangerous moment that I remembered was this: Glumdalclitch left me in the garden one day, and the weather was very bad. First it rained, and then it hailed (下冰雹) very hard. The hailstones were the size of tennis balls, and they hurt me badly. I tried to hide under a tree, but I was still hit by some of them. 

Another danger came from an idea that the Queen had. She knew that I liked boats, and she ordered one of her servants to make a little boat for me. The servant put the boat into a tank of water on the table. I spent many hours in this boat. One day, however, a frog jumped into the boat. I thought the boat would sink, and I was afraid. I was lucky, and I managed to push the frog out of the boat.

The wolf believed   (he) words. He looked around and asked, "Where is that big rabbit?" The rabbit said, "I won't show you   you follow me." So the wolf followed the rabbit. They walked and walked. When the wolf realized he was fooled (愚弄), the rabbit had already run away. 

The rabbit hid in a hole safely. He thought, "I am so lucky to get away. I   (learn) a lesson from this experience: Thinking quickly can help me out of danger."
