A small talk is a good way to kill time and make friends. When you are in other countries, do you know h to have small talks with people?

My name is Grace. When I started middle school, my sister hurt her legs because of dancing. She had to stay in hospital for a month. But our home was far from the hospital. So my parents had to take a long ride to the hospital to take care of (照顾) my sister. Just at this time, Warm Homes, an organization (机构) helped us. It provided (提供) us with free rooms and food. They helped us a lot at that difficult time. 

After my sister got well, we all joined this organization and wanted to help other people. We go to hospitals or old people's homes every weekend. We also volunteered there last weekend. Last Saturday morning, we met ten people and they needed help. That afternoon we provided free rooms and food for them. And last Sunday we spent the whole (全部的) day at an old people's home. My sister and I sang and danced for the old people. My mother cooked for them and my father read the newspaper to them. 

Helping others makes us happy. I like this kind of weekend very much!

Last Saturday, Lin Tao and his classmates went to the old people's home as volunteers. They arrived at 9:00 a.m. with fruit and flowers. Some cleaned the rooms, while others talked with the old people.  

Grandma Li was very happy to see them. "I haven't seen my grandchildren for half a year," she said. Lin Tao played chess with her, and Wang Mei sang some old songs. When it was time to leave, Grandma Li held Lin Tao's hand and said, "You are just like my own children."  

Before leaving, the students put up a "No Smoking" sign in the hall. They hoped everyone could help keep the old people's home clean and safe. On the way back, Lin Tao thought, "Helping others makes me feel happy and meaningful."

During the holiday, many people want to find dazi (搭子) or activity partners for traveling, eating or other activities. The activity of finding dazi is a new way of social contact (社会交往) for young people. 

The idea of this activity is easy to understand. It helps people to find someone who has the same hobby as them and it doesn't take much time. With one or a few dazi, people have more fun in the activities they are interested in. 

A girl called Ge Jinyuan, is a high school student from Shandong. She likes talking with her meal dazi when she is having lunch. "We love to share our ideas on the food," said the girl. "If my meal dazi doesn't come to school one day, I will be sad."

"It takes a lot of time to make friends with others. But it doesn't need much time to have a dazi," said another girl Shi Zhimin, a student from Shanxi. Ge Jinyuan also has the same idea. She doesn't want to spend too much time making friends, so having a dazi is good for her. She can fel relaxed and then has more time to study.
