How to make friends at a new school
Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be different, and you don't even know where to go for your own classes. However, if you follow the advice, you can quickly turn some of those strangers into friends.
Be yourself.
If some people don't accept you, they're not the kind of friends you need. People often stay together because they have similar interests. For example, someone who does a lot of sport may make friends with those who also run or swim a lot.
Believe in yourself.
A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don't keep your eyes on the floor. Raise your head and make eye contact with other people. Introduce yourself. Tell them your name and where you're from.
Remember people's names.
You like it when people use your name, and so do other people. Besides, ask them in a kind way if they have a nickname (昵称). You'd be surprised how often this might come in handy.
A.Making new friends can be hard, too.
B.Never change who you are to try and fit in.
C. If you see someone you know, smile or say "Hi".
D.People may become angry if you just begin by saying "Hey" each time.
E. Don't sit at the back of the classroom where other people don't notice you!
What other advice can you give to make new friends? (不超过20词) (开放性题目,答案合理即可)

Governments around the world are pushing for an end to plastic straws (吸管) and bags. More and more businesses are changing to paper products. Using paper is considered to be better than plastic. However, it is harmful to the environment, too.
Firstly, paper bags and straws are made from trees. Trees, as you know, are good for the environment. They can slow down climate change. An increase in the use of paper bags can cause more deforestation (毁林).
Secondly, the production of paper things requires more energy and water. About 10 percent more energy and four times as much water is used to produce a paper bag than a plastic one. You might say that we can use recycled paper to save that energy and water. This seems to be a good idea. However, it takes even more energy and water to go through the recycling process (过程) than to make a new paper bag. Products made from recycled paper are also often short-lived.
Furthermore, paper products are heavier than plastic ones. That means they require more fuel to transport. Seven trucks are needed to transport two million paper bags, while only one truck is needed to transport the same number of plastic bags. The increased weight also leads to a larger amount of waste once the bags are thrown away.
Last but not least, paper products are actually a lose-lose for both the environment and businesses. They are more expensive than plastic products. A paper straw costs about 5 to 12 cents, while a plastic one usually costs only about 2 cents.
The most environment-friendly way is to avoid single-use things altogether. Products like glass water bottles and steel straws can be used over and over again. They are much better than either paper products or plastic products. By increasing the use of these items, you can greatly reduce your throwaway waste and truly make our earth a greener place!
(1)、What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 1 refer to?A、Using plastic straws. B、Using plastic bags.

B、It seems not to be a good idea.

In a Chinese class, the teacher read an old poem to students, "The ring of the bell reached the boat at midnight (夜半钟声到客船)." Then he stopped, and asked, "How could the sound travel so far?"
Well, that's not a normal question in a Chinese class. But for "no-boundary (无边界) classes" at Luwan Middle school in Shanghai, it is quite normal. In such classes, teachers work together and teach different kinds of knowledge in one class. The school has organized about 60 such classes. "We hope students can get a general understanding of science," said He Li, headmaster of the school.
What subject could go together? The school lets teachers decide. They have tried putting physics and music, physics and Chinese, and physics and chemistry together.
To that question asked by the Chinese teacher, a physics teacher sitting near him gave the answer, "Sound waves deflect (偏折) towards a lower temperature. At midnight, the ground is colder than the air. The sound waves deflect towards the ground. So we can hear a faraway sound much clearer."
"It was so interesting!" said Wang Yinkai, 14, from the school. "We didn't think about any relationship between these subjects. But now in such classes, we learn to look at a question from different sides."
Li Zhiyuan, 14, said that these classes also help students make more friends. "We often do both chemistry and physics experiments in one class," said Li. It's quite possible that you're good at one subject but not the other. "So we need each other's help."

Over the years I've been teaching kids about a simple but powerful spirit—the ant philosophy (哲学). I think we should study ants.
Ants have an amazing four-part philosophy, and here is the first part: they never give up. That's a good philosophy. If they're headed somewhere and you try to stop them, they'll look for another way. They'll climb over, and they'll climb around. They keep looking for another way. What a neat philosophy to never quit looking for a way to get where they're supposed to go.
Second, ants think winter all summer. That's an important view. You can't be so naive as to think summer will last forever. So ants are gathering their winter food in summer. An ancient story says, "Don't build your house on the sand in summer. " There is some reason in what it says. It is important to think ahead. In summer, you've to think about the storm. You've got to think about rocks when you enjoy the sand and sun.
The third part of the ant philosophy is that ants think summer all winter. That is so important. During the winter, ants remind themselves, "This won't last long;we'll soon be out of here. " And on the first warm day, the ants are out. If it turns cold again, they'll go back, but then they come out again if it is warm. They can't wait to get out.
And here is the last part of the ant philosophy. How much will an ant gather during the summer to prepare for the winter? All that he possibly can. What an unbelievable philosophy, the "all-that-you-possibly-can" philosophy.
What a great philosophy to have the ant philosophy! Never give up, look ahead, stay active and do all you can.
(1)、If ants have trouble reaching somewhere, they will____.A、give up their effort at last B、get there in another way
C、wait for a chance to come D、look for others' help(2)、In Paragraph 3, people are advised ____.A、to think about the storm in winter
B、to gather winter food in summer
C、to build the house on the sand in summer
D、to think about the danger while in safety(3)、The third part of the ant philosophy is ____.A、more important than the other three
B、to believe in yourself and think about no difficulty
C、to be active and full of hope for future
D、that we should know winter is longer than summer(4)、Which of the following shows the "all-that-you-possibly can" philosophy?A、We should try our best to do what we can.
B、One should think of what will happen in the future.
C、One should prepare for the winter during the summer.
D、We should spend more time doing our work. -

We need to talk a lot with our friends and family to build good relationships in our life. How can we improve our talking skills? Here are four ways that might help you have better conversations with people.
Never speak when the other person is speaking. If you do this, it's just like saying, "I don't care what you're saying. What I have to say is more important."
Don't finish other people's sentences. Studies show that doing this will make people lose interest in talking with you because you're taking control of the conversation.
Repeat what the other person said. To show you have really understood someone, say what they have just said before you tell them your idea.
____. By looking at the other person in the eye, you are showing that you are interested in what they're saying. This also helps you listen more carefully.

Teenage Life—Better Now, or in the Past?
Does this situation sound familiar (熟悉)?
You are complaining to your parents about something. Maybe your computer isn't powerful enough to play the latest games. Then you hear... "When I was your age, there weren't any computers or video games. And I didn't get a bike until I was sixteen. And it was second-hand. "
So, is it really true that life is better for teenagers now? It is certainly true that many teenagers have got more things nowadays. A typical family is smaller now. So parents have got more money to spend on each child. And many things are cheaper than they were when our parents were children.
Forty years ago, no one could imagine a world with tiny computers and amazing smartphones. And now these things are necessary and we can't imagine living without them! However, technology (科技) often means we spend more time at home. And often it's just us, with our computer or television. Teenagers don't do enough exercise. And, although young people still get on well with their friends, some people think teenagers today don't have so many social things as they did in the past.
What do you think? Is teenage life better these days?
A.And it was too big for me.
B.Or your friends' bikes are better than yours.
C. So they aren't as healthy as they were in the past.
D.Technology is probably the greatest change in our life.
E. It makes their lives not so boring.
What do you think of teenage life today?

What do you call your mother's mother? Whether you say laolao or waipo depends on your dialect (方言). And humans aren't the only ones who have different dialects. Animals do, too!
Scientists at Aarhus University in Denmark spent six years studying sperm whales (抹香鲸) in the Caribbean. They found that the animals communicate through special clicking noises. This call has never been found in Pacific whales.
According to National Geographic, researchers studied the howls (嚎叫) of different species of wolves. They found that red wolves, Arctic wolves and coyotes (郊狼) have howls that can change in pitch (音高). In other words, they have their own dialects.
Other animals that have been shown to have dialects include bats and dogs.
So how do animals develop their own dialects? According to Darcy Kelley from Columbia University, most animals learn their accents (口音) naturally. For example, macaques (猕猴) start speaking their dialect as soon as they are born. Scientists placed some macaques in a new environment where their playmates all spoke a different dialect. But the macaques still spoke their own dialect. Their environment had no impact (影响) on their communication, according to the Washington Post.
However, some animals can change their accent according to their environment. Birds who live in cities develop different accents from those in the countryside. To deal with loud city noise, city birds' tweets (小鸟的叫声) are high-pitched, according to the Sun. These high-pitched tweets are easier to hear in noisy places.
So can animals learn a new dialect from others?
Professor Kelley said that the right "accent" is key to survival (生存)—it helps animals find a mate and warn (警告) of danger. A species won't change the dialect it is born with.
(1)、The sperm whales in Paragraph 2 are used to show that ____.A、animals can communicate with each other
B、animals like sperm whales may also have dialects
C、whales communicate by using clicking noises
D、sperm whales live only in the Caribbean(2)、Why do researchers believe that wolves have dialects?A、Because there are different species of wolves.
B、Because wolves live in different areas of the world.
C、Because wolves of different species howl at different pitches.
D、Because wolves can communicate with each other by howling.(3)、Birds living in cities develop high-pitched accents to ____.A、attract mates B、make special sounds
C、be heard over noises D、protect their language(4)、What is the last paragraph mainly about?A、The development of animals' dialects.
B、The importance of animals' dialects.
C、The differences between animals' dialects.

The Lantern Festival is a traditional festival in China when people light lanterns, set off fireworks (放烟花), eat yuanxiao, and enjoy family time. But do you know how this festival started?
In the Han Dynasty, there was a man named Dongfang Shuo who worked for Emperor Wu of Han. One day, Dongfang met a crying maid(哭泣的宫女) named Yuanxiao. He asked her what happened. And the maid said she was sad because she couldn't see her family.

It might be fun to use your smartphone, but be careful. Too much screen time may be harmful to your health.
First, it is bad for your eyes. A researcher called Sarah Hinkley says the problem comes from the blue light that the screen gives out. Looking at a smartphone for a long time can cause eye strain(劳损), headaches and dry eyes.
