①It's often said, "You can't live only on air." But now the Chinese scientists can tell you: Maybe you can.

②Recently, some Chinese scientists have made a big breakthrough (突破). They turned CO2 into starch (淀粉).

③Starch is the main part of rice and corn that we eat every day. Usually it's created by plants with CO2, water and sunlight. According to the team's director Ma Yanhe, it usually takes the plants nearly sixty steps to produce starch. But now, the team, after six years of hard work, has found a simpler way to do this, with only eleven steps.

④"Our study shows that creating something like starch is possible in a laboratory, and this technology may be helpful in many areas," said Ma.

⑤This method makes it possible to produce food in factories instead of traditional farming. This will not only help make plenty of food, but also save water and land. It may also help recycle CO2 to deal with climate change, according to China Daily.

⑥The study can be helpful in space, too. Astronauts may no longer need to worry about their food as they travel in space. They may simply turn the CO2 they breathe out into the food they eat!

(1)、What important breakthrough have the scientists made recently?
A、They found a new way to grow corn faster. B、They turned CO2 into starch. C、They made a kind of plant.
(2)、How many steps do the plants usually take to produce starch?

    ①Helping make plenty of food.

It's not easy growing up. Growing up can be a real "pain" for some of us. We are always doing things that someone else makes us do and aren't allowed to do all the things we like. Sometimes we feel sad, sometimes we are fearful, and sometimes we just don't understand why we can't stay young forever. But we should take a look back on all the painful things in life with a positive attitude and we should learn from them. We should realize that all of our growing pains actually turn into growing gains!

Throughout our lives we are going to face many challenges and pains, but we should never let these difficulties keep us from following our dreams. We must overcome them one small step at a time.

As a young girl, my parents asked me to do so many things that I didn't like. They made me learn to play the violin and then the piano. At that time I hated music and I also hated them. But looking back now, I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music has enriched my life in so many ways. I now comprehend that my parents and teachers wanted me to have a better life.

We are all going to experience growing pains, but they are just part of our life. Think about how we would feel if we had no challenges and lived a life like that. Life would be really boring and meaningless. The future is ours! A little hard work and sweat never hurt anyone! If we realize that these pains are just small bumps on our road to success, we will realize that our growing pains are actually growing gains!

(1)、What should we do when we look back on the painful things in life?
A、Feel sorry for them. B、Be afraid of them. C、Pay attention to them. D、Learn from them.
(2)、Which of the following is WRONG according to the text?
A、Growing pains are part of our lives. B、Our growing pains will finally turn into growing gains. C、Life without challenges is boring and meaningless. D、Successful people never experience growing pains.
(3)、What does the underlined word "comprehend" probably mean?
    A、Collect. B、Remind. C、Encourage. D、Understand.
(4)、Which can be the best title for the text?
A、Growing Up Is a Real Pain B、Growing Up Is Quite Hard C、Growing Pains Are Growing Gains D、Growing Pains Are Challenges

Everyone loves beautiful things. For example, some like wearing beautiful clothes. Some enjoy planting beautiful flowers. Some prefer making friends who are warm-hearted. Beauty is everywhere in our daily life. Here are some ways to help us find beauty in our life easily.

First, keep curiosity. We meet different things every day. As students, we have different lessons five days a week at school. We need to remember what the teachers say in class. Keeping curiosity is helpful for us to accept new things. And we will learn better because of it.

Second, share our feelings for beauty with others. It can help us to strengthen our own experience and deepen our understanding of beauty. What's more, we can be more active to discover and enjoy the beauty around us.

Another useful way is to slow down. This idea is supported by former Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He thought we lived in a wonderful life and we could find it with our eyes open. So it's important to slow down, pay attention to details, and discover the beauty that we often miss.

In short, beauty is everywhere in our life. As long as we are willing to open our eyes and hearts, we can discover and appreciate (欣赏) beauty.

(1)、How often do students have lessons at school?

Many people post things online. Online sharing is a of our daily life now. Different kinds of apps and websites make communication than before. We can share what has happened recently with others. We can also give personal opinions on what we see.

The Internet connects us with friends, family, and people in other countries. Sometimes, when we a prize in a singing competition or do well in a test, we may share the happy news. At times, when we take of beautiful views, we might also post them to share.

However, not everything shared online is kind. Some can be unfriendly. Those unkind words may have unpleasant influences. Maybe people post things without thinking. They just want to play a joke make others laugh. But these are not good reasons.

Good shares can make the online world warm and friendly, while ones can bring trouble to others. So when we want to share something on the Internet, we should ask whether the things we post are proper or not. Think twice sharing. We should be responsible for what we share online. Never make up or anything that is not true. In short, always respect others' feelings. If we can't do that, maybe we're not ready to share online yet.

  • 20、Plastic waste is an increasingly serious problem. Up to now, only 9% of the plastics ever produced have been recycled. The rest remain on earth for hundreds of years. They are washed out into the ocean to become rubbish, harm wildlife and break down into small plastics that can enter our bodies.

Recently, scientists have developed a new method to break down plastic waste with the help of water in the air.The researchers mixed a special metal and activated carbon (活性炭) with PET, the most common type of polyester (聚酯纤维) plastic. Then they heated the composite. After a short time, this broke the chemical connections in the polyester. Next, when the team left the material in the air, the mixture turned into TPA, a polyester material, and acetaldehyde (乙醛), an industrial chemical. Finally, these valuable chemical materials were recycled.

After the first success, researchers tested the method on different plastics and found it worked on polyester plastic only. That meant they didn't need to separate different kinds of plastics. Also, when they added water, it stopped working because the amount (量) of water in the air was just right.

The team's next plan will be to use the method widely in industry.

"It's hopeful that our technology can hugely reduce plastic pollution, lower the environmental footprint of plastics and help materials be reused instead of being thrown away," researchers said. "It's a large change towards a cleaner, greener future, and it shows how creative chemistry can solve world challenges in a way that joins hands with nature."
