During school days, my life feels like a train that never stops. I rush to class, rush through homework, rush to bed. By the time I finally sit down, the day is already over. It seems like everything is "eating away" my time: homework, boring tasks, my busy school day... So I have very little time for myself.

On the first day of the winter holiday, I made a promise: I would take my time back. I stayed up late every night to make up for all the free time I'd missed during the term.

Rich Ruohonen is an American curling player. He has been trying to get to the Winter Olympics for almost 40 years. When he was 54, he finally made his dream come true.

However, his journey to the Olympics was full of difficulties. His Olympic dream first started in 1988. From then on, he made it many times. The hardest and saddest time was four years ago, when his team got the third place and missed the Olympics. Still, he never gave up.

Cai Gao is a famous Chinese artist.  April 2026, she won the Andersen Award(安徒生奖). She is China's (one) winner in sixty years. This award is the highest honor for children's literature and illustration(插画) in the world.

Cai was born in the city of Changsha in South Central China in 1946. She (influence) by her culturally rich family when she was young.  graduating from school, she began to teach painting at a primary school in the countryside. Those years of experience inspired many of her later works.

At the age of 36, she worked as  art editor. She kept creating picture books, mixing (tradition) culture with modern ideas. Her breakthrough came with her book Bao'er. It told an amazing story of a boy. He used wisdom and courage to fight off a monster and saved (he) mother. In 1993, Bao'er got an international prize. This (great) encouraged many Chinese creators of children's books.

Now, Cai is searching for new breakthroughs even though she is 80 years old. She decides (put) more energy into picture books for children aged 0 to 3. She hopes her works can bring more beauty and (happy) to children around the world.

The Yangtze finless porpoise（江豚）is one of the most popular water animals in China. It is also the world's only freshwater porpoise. With its mouth that naturally turns up, the porpoise is known as the"smiling angel（天使）".

According to a 2025 survey, the wild population has risen to 1,426—an increase of 177 since 2022. This good news comes after the government's ten-year fishing ban（禁渔）, which started in 2021. However, the species is still endangered. In the 1990s, there were about 2,700 porpoises. Because of human activities such as overfishing and water pollution, their number fell to just 1,012 by 2017. Now, the population increase, though small, is a good sign for the species.

Thanks to the fishing ban and other protection efforts, the porpoise is making a comeback. In recent years, people have often seen them playing near Wuhan and Nanjing. China has also built five special reserves for porpoises moved from badly damaged areas. These safe waters now hold more than 150 porpoises, with over 10 babies born each year. These methods have greatly improved the porpoises' chances of survival.

Zhang Zhili, an expert in protecting the porpoise, noted that the present population is only about half of what it was in the 1990s. But the slow increase brings hope."Five years after the fishing ban was introduced, porpoises have begun to recover. This shows the health of our mother river is slowly returning," he said. To deal with future challenges, the government has made a new action plan. It aims to increase the wild population to about 1,700 by 2030 and 2,000 by 2035.

Have you ever heard of"travelling with textbooks"?Chinese tourists are leaving textbooks at tourist spots around the world, such as Big Ben and the Colosseum. Some travelers say that when they see the view, the content from their textbooks comes to life.

The activity is called Keben Jieli or"textbook relay". It began last November, when Chinese travelers to Egypt started posting pictures of the cover of a history textbook on social media. Others soon began hiding textbooks for others to find, sometimes with a pen for them to leave notes.

In March, several Chinese students in the UK continued the relay. They left copies of their English textbook near the Big Ben that appeared on the book covers. Those who found the books wrote messages inside. One note read:"Hope everyone who learns about the world through books can see it in person."

Similar activities happened elsewhere. In Italy, a Chinese student hid a history textbook near the ticket office of the Colosseum. In France, one visitor left an English textbook with a Louvre Museum cover opposite the museum. She said that seeing the image come to life felt like her education had come full circle.

Beyond the textbook relay,"travelling with textbooks"has become a popular activity across China over the past few years. For example, at the Taohuayuan Scenic Spot in Hunan province, visitors who can recite（背诵）The Peach Blossom Spring(Tao Hua Yuan Ji) can enter for free.

Qiaopi are special letters and remittances（汇款）from overseas Chinese. They sent these letters across the oceans to  (they) families, full of love and responsibility. 

Recently, a film called Dear You has made Qiaopi widely known.  film is based on real stories from Chaoshan, South China. A man (leave) his hometown because of the war and worked in Southeast Asia. He lived a really hard life overseas,  he didn't give up. He sent almost all his money back home. After he died, his friend kept (send) Qiaopi to his family for nearly twenty years.

 First of all, think about what kind of person you want to be and make a list of the key characteristics.  For example, if you hope to cheer others up, look for people who can always encourage you. Finally, pick someone who works hard and doesn't stop trying. Do not just choose top performers. 

No matter who you choose as your role model, remember not to copy him or her completely. Everyone makes mistakes, including the heroes in your heart. 

Your road to becoming better does not stop here. But once you start in the correct direction, you'll get there one day. 

Ayala is a 50-year-old researcher. He used to work as a zoo keeper. But for the past 15 years,he has devoted himself to giant panda research in Chengdu. To him, these lovely animals are more than just wildlife. They are wonderful bridges connecting cultures across the world. 

China has achieved a lot in panda protection. Giant pandas were once endangered. Thanks to protection rules and national parks, the wild population of pandas has grown greatly. Now their protection level has changed to"Vulnerable"（易危的）.

The production of energy, such as oil and gas, has been falling in many countries. But China is less worried: we have spent years building wind power instead. 

Across China, wind turbines（风力涡轮机）now stand on hills, in deserts, and near the coast. Long power lines carry electricity from windy western areas to busy factories and cities in the east. Last year, China produced more wind power than all the other countries in the world. Chinese companies are also selling more turbines and parts to other countries. 

Building wind power now seems a wise decision. For China, renewable energy is not only about climate change. It is also about energy security. China can make more energy from wind and sun. So it can stay safe and be less influenced when oil and gas prices rise worldwide. 

Wind power cannot be built in one day. Solar power stations can be built quickly, but wind farms take time. Each turbine needs a large area, a windy place and calm weather for building. It also needs strong power lines to carry electricity to cities and factories. 

Although developing wind power takes time and effort, it is important to our country. We can imagine more wind turbines will be built on this land in the coming years. 

Jenny worked in a restaurant. She read in the newspaper about a thief（小偷）. The man stole1 , and no one had seen him. Even the police couldn't catch him. Jenny was a little 2 because she worked close to that area.
