Why Should We Take Part in Charity Activities?

Charity activities are meaningful for everyone. Taking part in them can bring us a lot of happiness and make us grow as a person. Here are some reasons why we should join in:

 Charity activities teach us to care about others instead of only thinking about ourselves. We will learn to be thankful for what we have and cherish our happy life.

 When we take part in charity activities, we can meet many kind people and make new friends. We can also work with them and learn how to cooperate with others.

 We can learn many new skills from charity activities, such as organizing activities, communicating with people and solving problems. These skills are useful for our future life.

 Helping others makes us feel happy and proud. When we see the smiles on the faces of the people we help, we will have a strong sense of satisfaction.

①Last summer holiday, I didn't go to see the fantastic scenery or ancient temples. Instead, I had a special and meaningful experience—I worked as a volunteer in a small village in the mountains. The village was not rich, but the people there were friendly and their life was peaceful. 

②My main task was to help clean up the village and teach the children some simple English. At first, I felt a little tired because I wasn't used to the hard work. However, when I saw the big smiles on the children's faces, all my tiredness was gone. They were so happy to learn new things. We got together every afternoon, and I used games to make learning fun.

Sara came from a big family, and they lived in a small apartment (公寓). Sara's dad worked hard, but he didn't make enough money to buy a house.

Sara had a dream. She dreamed that her family would have their own house. It seemed difficult to make her dream come true, but Sara's friend Jenny wanted to help her.

One day when Jenny was reading a magazine, she read about a program called House for People. She told Sara about it. Many people get together and help to build a house for a family in need. They work for free.

Local businesses (当地企业) buy things to build the house. Anyone can help. You don't have to be good at building houses because there's always something to do. Sara's family were interested in the program and applied (申请).

Oh, they were lucky and they got the result they wanted.

After a long winter of waiting, Sara's family were happy to know the work would start on March 7th. It was a nice Saturday morning, and more than thirty people came to help. They worked hard all day. Over the next three weeks, the new house was well underway. The big day came on March 30th. Where once only a dream stood, there now sat a new white house.

Hongcun, an ancient village in Anhui Province, is known as the "village in Chinese painting". With its beautiful natural scenery and ancient culture, it attracts millions of tourists every year.

But keeping this ancient beauty alive is no easy work. As the number of tourists grows, problems like littering and water pollution have become big challenges for the village. Wang Lihua, a 48-year-old local resident, has been volunteering to protect Hongcun's environment since she was 33 years old. Every morning, she walks with a cloth bag, and picks up plastic bottles, food wrappers (食品包装纸) and other litter. "Hongcun is my home. I've lived here all my life, and I can't stand seeing it get dirty," Wang says. She also talks to tourists politely when she sees them throw litter around, telling them about the history of the village and why protecting the water is important for Hongcun's future. Many tourists are moved by her dedication and even join her in cleaning up.

To make protection more efficient, the village has also set up environmental protection teams. These teams include local residents, shop owners and young volunteers. They check the water system and teach visitors how to respect the village's rules. Thanks to their efforts, Hongcun's water remains clear, and its ancient buildings are well-protected.

Hongcun's story tells us that protecting cultural heritage is everyone's job. Next time you visit a historic place, remember to take your litter with you—small actions can make a big difference for these valuable places.

I am fighting fires for a volunteer fire company (志愿消防队). I still 1 my first fire. I was the second volunteer to be there. Our team leader was 2 the homeowner, who was surely having a (an) 3 day of her life. At midnight, she was standing outside in heavy rain without 4 while her house was in the big fire.

The other volunteer, who was 5 than me, was asked to save the homeowner's dog first. The leader then asked me to come over, "Bezos, I 6 you to go upstairs past the fire, and get this woman a pair of shoes." This wasn't the 7 I wanted, but I went up the stairs, down the hall, past the fire into 8 bedroom to get a pair of shoes.

A few weeks later, the company received a letter from the homeowner 11 us for saving her home. She especially wrote that someone 12 got her a pair of shoes.
