Matt is a successful businessman. He and his partners have built and sold several high-value outdoor companies. But Matt says he has never felt richer than he did the day he received a single dollar from a 9-year-old boy.

Sometimes our friends make us unhappy, and we might want to talk to them. But how can we make these talks easier? Here are some tips.

Describe the problem clearly. It's important for you to know what the problem is. Once you know the problem, you can explain how it influences you. Saying "I feel hurt that you spend less time with me." is better than "You never spend time with me!"

Staying calm during the talk is necessary. If you get angry, it might lead to a fight. You can tell your friend that this talk makes you feel a little nervous. In this way, you will show your kindness.

Never mind who is right or who is wrong. It's important to listen to your friend's opinion. Don't just pay attention to proving (证明) yourself right. You can try to understand how he or she feels. This can help you solve the problem quickly.

Listen and plan. You can lower (降低) the chances of arguing by listening carefully to your friend. Many experts suggest planning what you want to say, so you can say it in a way that doesn't create trouble.

Don't be too anxious (焦急的). It's useless to be anxious because difficult problems can't be solved in just one talk. Think about what can be solved in one discussion and go for it. This will help you set goals you can achieve.

Students at Sanhe Township Primary School in Chongqing enjoy playing soccer. It is an important part of  school life. Every student at school has a soccer lesson once a week. Students play soccer matches every month. The school is deep (深的) in the and has poor teaching resources (教学资源). Most of its are left-behind children (留守儿童), and very few of them can go to high school or university. To help students have a good future, ten years ago, Sun Xiaoming, headteacher of the school, set up a girls' soccer team. He picked 20 girls from the fourth and fifth grade and offered (提供) them free training, clothing and at school. Primary school students are  and thin. It's difficult for them to play basketball or volleyball. But soccer is different. It is cheap and  to learn. Students can play it in a team in the playground, or practise it alone at home. So soccer is the perfect choice  the students. 

The students  love soccer. They practise every day. Many of them play it well. Some of them get into great middle or high schools. Some of them join Soccer  and become professional (职业的) players. Soccer is more than just a sport. It opens a new window for those students and changes their lives. It helps them enjoy good health, make new  and learn to work with others. Also, it helps them get out of the mountains and live a better life.

Do you want to be a volunteer? You can pick what you really love to do. 

Help kids learn and grow.Be a big brother or a big sister at an after-school care center. 

Give back during the holidays. Serve dinner to the homeless, volunteer at your local welfare house (福利院), or give out toys to kids. Your local church (教堂) and temple may also need your help. 

 Most shelters need volunteers to keep the cats and dogs happy and well exercised. And when you're walking dogs, you get some exercise, too. 

Protect the environment. We can do something simple to protect the earth. For example,  plant a tree in the spring, or join a group to work together to protect your local river. 

Help sick people. Lots of us are close to people who have a medical problem. It can make you feel good to donate your time or money to help the sick people who may feel down sometimes. 

If you have more than one thing you love, find a way to do them all. With your help, we'll certainly have a more beautiful world!

I'm glad to tell you about my experiences in learning first aid and doing volunteer work. I'm a student in Grade Eight. Our school held a professional first aid training last month, which was different from the basic one we had before. A doctor from the local hospital who has rich experience in emergency treatment came to teach us. He not only told us how to deal with common accidents, like nosebleeds, burns and falls, but also showed us how to give CPR to someone who can't breathe or has a heart attack. He even let us practice on mannequins, which made the training more practical and useful. Now I can not only help people around me if they have small accidents but also deal with some simple emergencies. 

I also joined the school volunteer club, which organizes different kinds of volunteer activities every month. Every weekend, we go to the community to help people in need. We help the old people do housework, like cleaning rooms, washing clothes and buying food. We also help the disabled kids with their studies and teach them some simple skills to help them live independently. Sometimes we organize activities to collect old books, clothes and toys for the poor children in the countryside. Every time I see the smiles on their faces, I feel very happy and realize that volunteering is a meaningful thing. 

Our school has some strict rules for volunteers. We must be polite and patient to everyone we help. We can't give up easily even when we meet difficulties. We must try our best to help others and respect their feelings. I think these rules are good for us. They help us become better people and learn how to take responsibility. I hope you can also join a volunteer group and experience the happiness of helping others. Please write to me soon and tell me about your experiences.

Do you know that taking good care of gardens can be a way of doing charity? That's what the National Garden Scheme (NGS) (国家花园计划) has been doing. The organization opens over 3,500 private(私人的) gardens in England and Wales for people to visit, and raises money through tickets, tea and cakes.

The NGS has a rich and interesting history. At a meeting in 1926, Miss Elsie Wagg came up with the idea of raising money for district (地区) nursing through the nation's obsession (沉迷) with gardening. A year later the NGS began to work and garden owners were asked to open their gardens for "a shilling (先令) a head". As a result, 609 gardens opened and a total of £8,191 was raised that year.

During the past century, the number of gardens grew, so the NGS was able to help more charities with a larger amount of money. Thanks to the kindness of garden owners, volunteers and visitors, it has donated a total of £70 million to nursing and health charities so far. It made a donation of £3.5 million in 2024 and about 70 pence (便士) in every £1 (1 pound=100 pence) went straight to organizations like Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospice UK and The Queen's Institute of Community Nursing.

The National Garden Scheme doesn't just open beautiful gardens for charity. Its Gardens and Health programme also shows people the important role of gardening and gardens in helping open a path to health.

How to Communicate Better

As a student, it's important to learn how to communicate well with others. Good communication can help you make more friends and live a happier school life. Here are some useful tips for you.

First, listen carefully. When someone is talking to you, don't think about other things. Look at him or her and listen to every word. This shows that you are polite and interested in the talk. Second, be brave to speak your mind. If you have different ideas, don't be afraid to share them. But remember to use a friendly tone. Don't shout or talk loudly. Third, learn to understand others. Everyone has different thoughts. Try to put yourself in others' shoes. It will help you avoid many arguments.
