Alice likes to eat at home and she hardly ever eats out. She thinks it is interesting to cook different (dish) with her family at home. That's because they can have a good time together. 

Last Sunday morning, Alice decided to make some sandwiches for her family because she wanted her family to eat (they) after they got up. First, Alice took out some (piece) of bread and added some cream to the bread. Then, she put some vegetables  beef on the cream. (final), she put another piece of bread on top. That was  she made all the sandwiches.

When her family got up, the smell of the strawberry milkshake filled the room with (sweet). They at e breakfast happily, and they all praised Alice. 

It was almost time for Pat's birthday party. "Mum, when are my friends coming?" she asked. 

"Soon, sweetheart, " answered Mum from the kitchen. She was baking the cake. "Your cake is almost done. "

Pat tried to sit quietly, but it was a little hard. She got up and ran to the kitchen. Just then, Mum came out with the cake. 

Pat bumped(撞) into her mum. The cake fell on the floor. It made a big mess. "Oh, no! My cake!" cried

Pat. She was so sad. 

After Pat's friends came, Pat told them what had happened. "If we all work together to make a new one, it will be fun, " said Beth. Pat was not so sure and was worried. 

The girls sat around the kitchen table. Mum put a big bowl in the middle. Beth added the flour, and Sue added sugar. Deb poured milk into the bowl, and Pat added eggs. Other girls put other things into the bowl. They talked and laughed while they were working. Pat was so excited. 

▲"The cake needs baking, " said Beth. "We have to wait. " Then Pat played card games with the other girls. They talked and laughed. "This is fun!" said Pat. 

After a while, Mum took out the cake. "Oh, the cake looks good!" said Pat. Each of them got a piece. Pat took a bite. "It tastes great!" she said. And she was so thankful. 

"See!" said Beth. "We will solve the problem so long as we take action. "

Pat looked at her friends and said, "You are good friends!" She was very happy. 

In Chinese culture, there are 24 solar terms(节气) in a year. Start of Autumn is very important for farmers because it marks the start of the harvest(丰收) season. 

What food do people usually have on this day? During the Qing Dynasty, people would put watermelons outside for a day before Start of Autumn and eat them on Start of Autumn. They thought this could drive the summer heat away. Today, people in Tianjin still keep doing this. 

There is also a traditional habit called"Touching Autumn" in the northern part of Yancheng, Jiangsu. On the night of Start of Autumn, people can touch and take all kinds of fruit for free in any garden, and the owners will not be angry. Many of them even leave some fruit for people during the night.

In Shandong, people eat dumplings, and they call it"Eating Autumn". On Start of Autumn, the elderly in a family will stand in the middle of their house with a bowl full of rice in their hands and make a wish for a harvest autumn. After that, people enjoy dumplings together. 

I like different dishes. One of my favourite dishes is a traditional British dessert called trifle(乳脂松糕). Imade a delicious trifle at the family party last year. 

That morning, I 1 some ingredients(材料) to make the trifle, including eggs, milk, cream and fruit. I read the 2 before I started to make sure I could do it well. I added some 3 in order to make it taste sweet. But I didn't add too much because eating too much sugar was not good for my health.

Chad was a clever but naughty(淘气的) child. He loved playing games during his free time instead of help-ing his mother with housework. 

One day, Chad's dad had a car accident and was unable to work. Chad's mum had to support(供养) the family on her own. She was tired out. Chad knew he had to do something to help his mum. He started sharing the housework and even started cleaning the gardens in the community to make some money. His mum was proud of him, but she didn't use any of his money. She wanted him to save it for himself. 

When it came to choosing New Year's gifts for his family, Chad spent hours in the store choosing gifts for eve-ryone, but he didn't buy anything for himself. 

When his mum asked him the reason, he said, "I don't need anything, Mum. "

"Chad, you' re still a kid, " said his mum. "You don't have to take on these burdens(负担) at such a young age. "

But Chad was determined(坚定的). Mum was moved and realized that her son was no longer a little kid. 

"Family is where life begins, and love never ends, " Chad said. "To my eye, when family face difficulties, everyone should do something to help his or her family solve problems. "

When I was ten years old, a thing changed my opinion(观点) on house-work. 

It was on a Friday evening. My father and I were watching TV while my mother was (cook) in the kitchen. Suddenly, my mother didn't feel well and started to moan(呻吟). My father and I sent my mother to the hospital (quick). The doctor told us she had  serious heart problem and needed to have surgery(手术). I was worried at that time. I was afraid that my mum would be (die). Lucki-ly, the surgery was successful. But the doctor said that my mother couldn't do tiring housework and also needed to rest for a few days. 

After that, I (plan) to do a lot of work that my mother used to do. The (first)thing was to clean our house every day. I swept the floor and watered plants. Moreover, I learned to cook meals and wash (plate). All of them were hard for me at first. I hurt my fingers when cutting vegetables one day  I couldn't use the knife well. I also added too much salt  the food, so it tas-ted terrible. But my parents always encouraged me. As time goes by, now I can do a lot of housework by (I) well. 

As students, we should learn to do housework as early as possible.

 First, making a list of chores to do around the house can make sure that everyone does his or her part of the work. Also, it can reduce(减轻) people's stress. Writing down everything and giving work to eve-ryone can make housework easy to do.  And when things are done in time, work won't pile up(积累). 

 So try making a chore list right away. 

Some parents think their children should play a lot in their childhood(童年), so they seldom let them do housework. While some parents think children should learn useful things, so they teach their children to do chores by themselves early. A study shows that learning to do chores at an early age is good for children's growth. Here are some benefits(益处) that helping out with chores brings to children. 

Doing chores teaches children life skills. Children are young now, so parents do many things for them. But they will need to do many hard things by themselves one day. They should learn some life skills as early as possi-ble. Doing chores like cooking and watering plants can help them become independent(独立的) and teach them how to solve problems. 

Doing chores also helps children learn to respect others' work. If they are asked to clean the house, they might know better about the mess they make. They will respect others' work more and keep the home clean and tidy. 

Doing chores helps children manage time well. There are a lot of things to do every day, and it's hard to fit them all in. They may have some problems when doing them. By doing housework, they can calm down and think clearly. This helps them know what the important thing is and how to manage their time well. 

Emma lived in a village happily with her family. It was so hot in summer. She often slept on the roof(屋顶)of the flat-topped house with her grandmother. Grandmother always sang Emma to sleep. She also told her some stories. 

One day, Dad told her that they would move to England because he had got a job there. It was a piece of good news, but Emma was a little sad because she didn't want to leave her grandmother.
