  • 1、Many teachers are afraid that students will use the artificial intelligence (AI) tool ChatGPT to write their reports or do their homework. But other educators are including it in the classroom.

Donnie Piercey is a teacher in Kentucky. He told his 23 fifth-grade students to try and make full use of the tool that was creating writing. Piercey says his job is to prepare students for a world where knowledge of AI will be required. He describes ChatGPT as just the newest technology in his 17 years of teaching that caused worry about the possibility of being not honest in the exams. "As educators, we haven't found out the best way to use artificial intelligence yet." he added. "But it's coming, whether we wantit or not."

What is ChatGPT? ChatGPT is a very modern AI chatbot trained by OpenAI which communicates in a conversational way. The dialogue program makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer questions, agree about its mistakes, challenge incorrect ideas, and reject (拒绝) wrong requests (请求). ChatGPT quickly became popular after it came out last November. Many educators around the country say schools need time to get ready for the chatbot. But they also think saying no to AI will be useless against students.

One student said, "They can help students who have trouble putting their thoughts into writing." "You can use it for suggestions, but should not use it to do all the work. You shouldn't fully depend on it," said McCormick, a ten-year-old student. "You're not learning anything if you type in what you want, and then it gives you the answer."

  • 2、Two things changed my life: my mother and a white plastic bike basket. I would be a different person if my mum hadn't turned the simple basket into a life lesson.

My mum handled most of the parenting in my childhood. Looking back, I don't know how she managed everything, especially the family budget (预算). But she made it look easy. If my brother and I ever complained about not having what other kids did, we'd hear things like, "I don't care what so-and-so got for their birthday. You're not getting a TV in your room or a fancy Sweet 16 Party." Instead, we earned our pocket money by doing chores around the house. We also had to take care of our belongings, and if something was lost, it would not be replaced.

One summer day, my mum took me to the bike shop to fix a tire. That's when I saw it—a beautiful white plastic bike basket with colorful flowers. The basket winked at me and I knew I had to have it. I begged my mum to buy it for me. I promised to do extra chores, anything, just to have it. She smiled and said gently, "If you save up, you could buy it yourself." I protested (反抗), afraid someone else would buy it first.

Then she said, "There might be another way." She bought the basket that day and hid it somewhere I couldn't find. Each week, I saved up my pocket money and did extra chores—washing the car, helping with dinner, running errands (跑腿) on my bike, which now lookedempty without the basket. Finally, after weeks of hard work, I had the full amount and got my dream basket.

Days later the unthinkable happened. A neighbourhood girl rode by on her shiny new bike—with the exact same basket. I rode hard and fast home to tell my mother about this disaster.

And then came the lesson I've taken with me through my life. My mum knelt down, looked into my teary eyes, and said to me, "Honey, your basket is extra-special because you paid for it yourself."
