Your personality might influence what kind of exercise you enjoy! A study from University College London found that people with different personalities prefer different workouts.  

What did the study show?

Outgoing people often like high-energy group activities, such as fitness classes or team sports. Quiet people usually prefer exercising alone, like running or yoga.  People who get stressed easily often feel better with easy-going and varied exercises. 

Researchers asked 132 people to join an 8-week fitness program. First, they answered questions about their personality and stress. Then, they took part in activities like cycling and bodyweight exercises. At the end, participants rated their enjoyment and were tested again for fitness. 

What do the results mean?

When the exercise matches their personality, people keep doing it, perform better, and have more fun. For example, outgoing people enjoy group activities, while easily stressed people reduce stress with relaxing plans. 

This research tells us that choosing the right exercise for yourself is very important. It doesn't matter what exercise you choose as long as it fits your personality. If you like setting your own pace, try running alone. If you enjoy staying with others, join a team sport or work out with friends. 

In short, exercise isn't just about health——it's also about enjoyment. Knowing your personality and choosing suitable exercise can make staying active easier and more effective.

Let's be honest. What do you usually do when you' re online? For many people (not just in China), it's watching short videos and checking out new memes(热梗). This low-value content clouds our thinking. The Oxford Word of the Year 2024, "brain rot, " best describes this global headache. 

But how did we get here? Looking through these types of short videos and memes is like eating your favorite snack. Once you start, it's hard to stop. It's also an easy way to kill time. Why p. an a trip or take up a new hobby when you can have"fun" without getting up from your sofa?

But this"easy fun" comes at a price. The more time we spend glued to our screens, the less real-life joy we experience. While we are having a"good" time on apps like Xiaohongshu and Bilibili, we are missing out on the wonders of the real world. Over time, we feel like our lives are getting more and more boring. What's worse, it makes it harder for us to concentrate for long periods, making it harder to read a book or listen in class, and makes it difficult to think deeply. 

Now it's time to bring back"voluntary fun". Instead of just watching, try doing something active. Draw a picture, write a short story, play a musical instrument, or build something. Go outside with your friends or family and enjoy the beauty of nature. Breathe in the fresh air. Bathe in the warm sunlight. Brighten your day with pleasant bird songs. Just don't let your screens take over your free time and leave your brain"rotting"!

Ocean researchers are saving endangered whales using hi-tech tools called SnotBots. 

In 2018, a killer whale called Scarlet was very weak. The whale, who was nearly four, was starving because there wasn't enough salmon to eat. Experts did their best but couldn't save her. 

Sadly, it isn't just Scarlet in trouble. All"southern resident killer whales", which live in the Salish Sea off the coast of Canada and the US, are having a hard time living. "There are only 75 killer whales remaining in this group, so every whale matters, " Hendrik Nollens from Wildlife Health told us. 

Researchers at Wildlife Health are using SnotBots to save these whales. "The special planes fly above the whales and take videos and pictures, collect their breath samples(样本) for health tests, and take their body temperatures, " says Nollens. 

Pilots fly the planes carefully to move close to the whales and catch the breath drops, or"blow", after they have come up to breathe. Analysing these breath samples helps the experts check whether the whales are healthy. The check-up also guides actions to protect the animals. 

By learning about and protecting whales, researchers are helping these fantastic sea animals live and grow again. Their efforts could help the population grow by 1% every year. "Our dream is to see more baby whales, healthier groups of whales, supported by healthier oceans, " says Nollens. 

10-year-old Maya Schab has a special birthday tradition every year. She holds a fundraiser（筹 款活动） to give back to her community. Recently, she gave away board games to children in a local hospital, keeping up her kind acts. 

Maya's journey of giving started when she was younger. In her first year of fundraiser, she asked friends, family and neighbors to give away school things for poor kids. She loved the feeling of giving back and decided to do something meaningful each year. 

Since then, Maya has tried several projects. She prepared snack kits for disabled kids, birthday boxes for the local food bank, and a crayon drive（蜡笔募捐活动）for the children's hospital. 

Why board games this year? Playing board games is a great way for hospital kids to relax and take their mind off being in the hospital. But because illnesses spread easily, hospitals can't reuse games. She wanted every child to have the chance to relax and play a game, and then take it home. 

To collect the games, Maya and her mom started a fundraiser website and shared it with family, friends and local businesses. She used the money to buy 130 board games, and some teachers also gave away games.

Should Schools Be Year-Round?

Fashions（时尚）come and go, so you should wear what makes you happy. In fact, the idea of feeling good by what we wear has a name-dopamine（多巴胺）dressing. It comes from the book Dress Your Best Life written by Dawnn Karen, which talks about looking for joy through dressing. 

Dopamine is the feel-good chemical（化学物质）that our bodies make. For example, when we eat delicious food or listen to our favorite music, our brain releases more of it. This chemical then travels to different parts of the brain to make us feel happy. Similarly, Dopamine can be released by doing other things. "What about wearing something crazy or bright?" says Karen. In 2020, Karen started looking for ways to improve dopamine levels. She then created"dopamine dressing" which quickly became popular. 

The dopamine dressing style is the most energetic. Fashion stars often share their dopamine dressing with others. They challenge their creativity to add more colors to their wardrobes（衣柜）。

Of course, it's impossible for us to choose exactly which color we should wear to improve our feelings. And dopamine dressing doesn't suggest that we should all wear bright colors to feel happier. For some people, wearing black might bring more happiness than wearing bright colors. Different people have different feelings about colors. It's all about how you feel about a color. "Add more of your favorite colors to your wardrobe. Think about the colors that make you think of a happier time, a place or a person. " says Shakail a Forbes-Bell, a fashion expert. 

All in all, if you' re looking to get feelings of happiness through your clothing, you don't need to turn to a certain color. Which colors have you always loved? Just go for them. 

My dad was very crazy about Gaelic football. He would go to every game within a hundred miles. Though with no interest, I went too, with our long-eared dog Rebel, for I did love visiting all these strange towns. 

"Keep him on a leash(牵引绳). " my father warned. "If he runs off, you will never see him again!"Well, that was exactly what happened. 

I remember we arrived late at the town of Portumna, forty miles away. My father gave me some money and told me to meet him at the gate after the game. But as I was getting out of our car, Rebel jumped out, running and barking(吠叫) after the crowd. Free from its leash, Rebel ran quickly. The faster I ran, the faster he ran, and soon he was running along the banks of a river chasing hens. I watched him disappearing into the tall grass and spent the next few hours running around in the mud and calling his name. I ran so far that I got lost myself. Finally, a farmer found me and took me to the police station. When My father saw me, he was very angry. " ▲ " But I was too heartbroken to care. All I could think was Rebel. 

Keep your dog on a leash, especially when they are in a strange place. I was never worried that Rebel would attack(攻击) anyone, but the people he was barking at didn't know that, did they? I'm sure he scared a few people. Dogs may be our best friends, but sometimes they might not understand strangers and then may attack them. This is especially important if you have a dog in the city. 

Luckily, my story had the best ending ever. One week later, Rebel showed up on our doorstep, hungry and covered in mud. 

All around the world, buildings are going green! People are making green buildings. What does it mean to go green or to make a green building? A green building is designed in a way that is friendly to the environment. The building uses energy, water, and other materials in ways that are good for the environment. 

When planning green buildings, architectural designers must think about how to use energy, water, and materials in an environment-friendly way. There are many ways to save energy. They can design buildings to use natural light. Buildings can also be made with wind or solar（太阳能的）power to get energy from the sun or the wind. To save water, green buildings can have areas on the roofs（屋顶）to collect rainwater. Bathrooms can have toilets that use less water. As for the materials used to build the building, it is important to use materials that are good to the air or water. Recycled（回收的）materials can also be used for buildings. 

Buildings around the world use all three of these ways to go green. An office building called CH₂ in Melbourne, Australia, uses wind and solar power. A cultural center in London, England, is made from recycled train cars and is powered by solar and wind power. The Academy of Sciences building in California in the U. S. has recycled materials, solar energy, and a huge"living roof"of plants. A temple in Thailand is made from 1. 5 million recycled glass bottles! This is a good use of recycled materials, and it also lets natural light into the temple. 

More and more green buildings are being built and they are making the world a better place!
