While most Chinese young people are crazy about new technology. Yu Chenrui chooses to look back. Yu is a maker of automata. It is said that very few people do such work as a full-time job in China. The history of automaton goes back to centuries ago. Ancient Greeks are believed to be the earliest makers. In fact, the name comes from the Greek word"automatos", meaning"moves on its own". 

Born in Chengdu, Yu was interested in handicrafts. At college, he studied art. In 2015, Yu first saw automata which were made by a Japanese artist and fell in love with them. He realized that this could be what he really wanted to do. 

Then he began to learn automata by himself. Automata have never been widely popular in China, so it's a bit difficult to find books or teachers to learn from. Yu learned them mostly from a British website. His friends also brought him some books from foreign museums. 

When he left college in 2016, Yu got a job in Beijing. However, the job took up much of Yu's time, making it difficult to achieve his dream. So three years later, Yu returned to his hometown Chengdu and opened a workshop. 

Now Yu's creations have caught the attention of some well-known artists, such as Paul spooner from the home of automata making in the UK. Yu's pieces of art have also attracted collectors from around the world. "A wonderful thing about automata is that they interest people of all ages. Adults regard automata as an art form, while children see them as toys," said Yu. 

Teenagers face many kinds of problems. Like many of them, I was once troubled by worries and dissatisfaction. Few people could understand my feelings.  "The problem with your generation is that you always expect to be happy," my mother once said.  Shouldn't we try hard to achieve it?

But now I have noticed a change in my thinking. I gradually realize what my mother said is correct. Over these years, many studies have shown that we are crazy about happiness and high self-confidence.  In fact, we may often be happier when we stop focusing on happiness. 

We should also reset our expectations of the future. Don't expect miracles（奇迹）, and accept that no matter how hard we try, feelings of failure and unhappiness will appear from time to time. 

When we feel sad, it's often because we have learned something painful but important. 

 At the same time, we should learn how to deal with them rather than trying to make them disappear. 

Happiness arrives when we are least expecting it. As my mother tried to teach me all those years ago, "Prepare for the worst, hope for the best, and be unsurprised by everything in between. "
