One night, four naughty (顽皮的) boy students stayed out of school having a late party at a night club and having a great time. They were partying so happily that they forgot they were going to take an exam the next day. 

The next morning, they got up too late to take their exam. In order not to be punished, they thought of a plan which they believed was perfect. They made their clothes dirty and went to the teacher's office. 

"Mr Johnson, we went to a friend's house last night in another town. On the way back, our car got a flat tire (轮胎没气), so we had to push the car all the way back to school. That's why we didn't make it for the exam. "

The teacher listened to their story, and told them in a kind voice, "It doesn't matter. I am going to give you another chance to take the exam three days later. " The four students thanked him and left happily.

What does a typical day look like for a high school student in the United States? Well, everyone's very different. I can describe my normal day in high school for you. 

Our school day went from 8:30 a. m. to 5:30 p. m. However, some days I had cheerleading (啦啦队) practice or play practice at 6:30 a. m. If I had cheerleading practice I got ready at school, and if I had time, I ate breakfast at the school cafeteria. 

Then I would head to my locker and take my books for the first period. Each class went for about 50 minutes and we had 4 minutes to get to the next class. We studied everything from science to math and Spanish to P. E. 

I played the piano in band, so one of my class periods was used for that. Lunchtime would be at 12:30 p. m. and afterwards we had some time to hang out outside or by our lockers. At the end of the day there was a seminar period. It could be used for studying or meetings. 

After school, I would cheer at a basketball game, be a lifeguard (救生员) at work or have speech practice. My family always tried to have dinner together at around 7 p. m. , but there wasn't always time. I would finally start studying at around 8 or 9 p. m. 

So there you have it! That's my typical day in high school. 

I'm a student at Rocky Mountain High School. The school day begins at 8:45. Class teachers meet the class and check who is present and absent at the beginning of the day. We meet as a whole school once a week on Fridays. The head teacher speaks to the whole school. Morning lessons begin at 9:05. There are three one-hour lessons with a fifteen-minute break. The lunch break is from 1 p. m. to 1:45. Afternoon lessons begin at 1:50 and the school day finishes at 4 p. m. 

All students study and take exams in maths, science and English. In addition, they choose one subject from History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology, French and Spanish. All students take PHSE (Personal Health and Safety Education) lessons but no exams are offered. After school sports practice and matches are arranged on Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning. Chess, music, language and theatre clubs also arrange meeting after school. Students may join as many clubs as they like, but should join at least one. 

Every year, our school has a sports meeting. All the students can take part in the activities they like. The school has a good record in sports. Last year our class team were champions in football and tennis, and my best friend Bob likes running. He broke the record because he got the shortest time in 400-metre race. 

Zhao Wenrui is a young art teacher from China's Shanxi Province. He recently became famous online for spending three months working on a beautiful chalk picture of a traditional (传统的) work. 

When Zhao Wenrui, an art teacher in Fanshi County, decided to draw a chalk version (版本) of Along the River During the Qingming Festival, he said that he just wanted to do something interesting for his students. It's said that he has used eight blackboards side by side and a lot of chalk. 

The original (原始的) version of Along the River During the Qingming Festival, a five-meter-long picture describing the capital of Northern Song Dynasty during the Qingming Festival, is sometimes called China's Mona Lisa, and considered by many people as one of the most important artworks in the country's history. The work has been copied a few times, but the original, which dates back (追溯到) to the 12th century, is seldom showed because it is valuable. 

Zhao Wenrui's 32-meter-long chalk version draws around 550 people, including farmers, boatmen, and so on, as well as dozens of animals, buildings, bridges, and the environment itself. 

However, unlike the real Along the River During the Qingming Festival, this chalk picture will not be saved for a thousand years, as the blackboards will be cleaned as soon as the children come back to school. 

Classrooms are around an indoor rainforest. Insects (昆虫) can live in the walls of the classrooms. If you could design your ideal school, what would it look like? What would you have in it?

Well, children at the Reggio School in Madrid, Spain, were happy. They could make their dream school turn into a real one. The designer, Andrés Jaque had the idea to build such a school. At first, he talked to many teachers and students about his ideas. Then he began building the school. 

The parents wanted things that could rich the children's imagination (想象力). They hoped that the things could help with their children's learning. They also wanted their children to show interest in something. Interest is the best teacher. The children hoped for things such as gardens or a school with no walls. 

Now, have a look at the new school. The walls are home to some insects. Staying in some of the classrooms, you can see gardens. People can't go to the gardens. They hope that birds and other animals can use the gardens and not be troubled (打扰). On the fifth and sixth floor, classrooms are around a small indoor forest. Some small animals live in it.

Good Learning Habits Make Me a Good English Learner

As we all know, good habits are very important in our daily life, especially to us students.

As you know, homework is a big part of going to school. Luckily, here are several suggestions for you to make homework easy.

Make a homework plan

Most middle school students have two or three hours of homework a night. If it is a heavy homework day, you may need to spend even more time. It is a good idea to come up with some kind of homework schedule (进度表), especially if you are going to do sports or other activities after school.

Watch where you work

A bedroom, study or any room where you can get away from noise is good for you to do your homework. But don't study on your comfortable bed, or you might fall asleep there.

Take a break

Most people's attention (注意力) don't last very long, so take some breaks while doing your homework. Sitting for too long without relaxing will make you less productive (多产的) than if you stop to take a break regularly. Taking a 15-minute break every hour is a good way for most people.

Get help when you need it

Sometimes even though you are listening carefully in class, some subjects seem too hard. The first person to ask for help is your teacher. He or she may be able to work with you before or after school and explain things more clearly. Your classmates may also be able to give you a hand. However, this might not give you the results you want. Lots of people understand something well but are not able to explain it.

My father was a college teacher. He was  at speaking different languages. My family  to many places and my father could talk to everyone he met.

I wasn't a great language learner. When I was 11 years old, I was poor in French. After I got  college, I read books in translation (翻译). Hermann Hesse was my favorite . I loved his works very much. I  wanted to read them in their mother languages. This idea made  start to study German. Although I made , I never stopped studying new languages. When I was twenty years old, I could speak French, Russian  German.

I spent two hours every day studying languages before I went to bed. Chinese was the most difficult. I spent ten years learning Chinese. Now, I can pronounce Chinese words well and  with others fluently (流利地). I have many Chinese friends too.

I think the world will be less interesting if there is only one language. It is like visiting a  with only one kind of plant! So I will keep working hard to study more languages.

You are like a new baby.

Babies learn their languages slowly. First they learn to listen. Then they learn to talk. Finally, they can read and talk. 

Listen to English every day. 

Listen to English on the radio, watch English TV programs, go to see English movies or use online lessons.

Practise the conversations. 

Make up conversations and practise the conversations. You'd better use textbooks for beginners. 

Read English stories. 

Start with children's storybooks. Try to read stories for ESL readers. Try englishclub.com for young learners.

Write down new words.

Start with a new word notebook. Write words in alphabetical order (A. ..B. ..C. ..). Make some sentences. Try to use an English-English dictionary. 

Keep an English diary.

Start with one sentence like "How do you feel?" or "What did you do today?" Write another sentence tomorrow.
