Jim:Well, on that day people will watch lantern shows at night and guess riddles (猜谜语) on the lanterns. This festival is on the 15th day of the first lunar month. It began from the Tang Dynasty (唐朝).

On September 23rd, 2023, the opening ceremony (开幕式) of the19th Asian Games in Hangzhou  place. People saw the electronic fireworks (电子烟花).

Why did they use this  of fireworks? Because they were "green" and Sha Xiaolan hoped  environmental protection to the world. With the help of the digital (数字的) technology and 3D pictures, the electronic fireworks looked  beautiful. "People have rich feelings  they are watching the fireworks. Today is the  time I have seen electronic fireworks, and they are very eye-catching," he told China News.

"High technologies helped make environment-friendly fireworks," he said. "People made fireworks with 3D technology. They tried  best to make sure the fireworks had the best show  pollution."

What does "Guo Nian Hao" mean in Chinese? Well, it  (mean) "Happy New Year". Chinese New Year is called the Spring Festival. It is  important festival in China. It means the  (begin) of a new year. At the Spring Festival, people welcome the new year  say goodbye to the old year. 

Chinese people do some  (thing) for the Spring Festival. They clean their houses. They buy new clothes. They buy good food and drink. They make or buy some lanterns (灯笼). They cook delicious meals. 

We can see a lot  red things at the Spring Festival. In China, red  (be) the symbol (象征) of good luck. Some people choose  (wear) red clothes. Lanterns are red. Children can  (get) red envelopes (红包). Their parents or grandparents put some money in red envelopes. Children are  (excite) to get red envelopes.

The Spring Festival is Chinese people's festival. There are twelve different names for Chinese years. We call it the Year of the Rooster, the Year of Dog…And this year is the Year of Rabbit. 

Before the festival, people are busy shopping and cleaning their houses. On the eve, there is a big family dinner. After dinner, all the family stay up late to welcome the New Year. 

At the Spring Festival, people put on their new clothes and go to visit their relatives and friends. They say "Happy New Year" and some other greetings to each other. People always have a good time during the festival.

Start of Winter (立冬) is one of the 24 solar terms (节气) in China. It means winter, the last season of a year, will come. 

In the old days, many shops didn't sell vegetables in winter. So on Start of Winter, people stored (储存) lots of vegetables in a cellar. It's a room under a house and people often store things in it. They also made tomatoes into tomato sauce (酱). They could use it when they ate noodles in winter. 

Today, people don't need to store vegetables in the cellar because they can buy all things easily at any time. Then what do people do on that day?

They always have a big dinner. Some people eat dumplings and some people eat chicken, duck and fish. They may eat different food, but they all eat well. There is one thing in common—eating well on Start of Winter can help people keep warm in winter.

On New Year's Eve (新年前夜), people in Italy (意大利) throw (扔) all the old things out of their houses. So there are chairs, beds, clothes and plates in the streets. 

In Spain (西班牙), in the evening, people come together to the streets with their families and friends. They all bring a bag of grapes (葡萄). When twelve o'clock comes, people start eating the grapes. They usually eat twelve grapes because they can bring them good luck for each month of the new year. 

In Japan (日本), people eat noodles on New Year's Eve. This food means longevity (长寿). Early the next morning, some families climb Mount Fuji (富士山). There they watch the first sunrise (日出) of the new year. 

In England, some people spend the evening at home with their family, or have a party with friends at their house. Others go to a pub or a large public place to celebrate.
