What do you like about holidays? For me, I really enjoy eating special festival (节日) food.   In the US, we often eat roasted turkey and mashed potatoes for Christmas (圣诞节).  We also really like to drink eggnog.  Eggnog is a special drink with milk, cream, sugar and eggs.  Hot chocolate is also very popular in the US during winter.  You can eat it as cookies or even make a gingerbread (姜饼) house! Gingerbread often smells sweet.   

I've lived in China for six years now.  There is a holiday that I really like: Spring Festival!  It has its own special foods, like dumplings, fish, spring rolls and tangyuan.  I love tangyuan most because they are so chewy and sweet.  

 It not only tastes good but also makes you think of loved ones.  Eating holiday food together can keep friendships and family ties strong.  Even if you eat alone, it can make you think of home and feel happy.  

Still, there are many other holidays and places which celebrate with their own holiday food.   Which ones are your favorites?

My mom told me a story that was about the school picnic.  At that time, schools didn't have a big activity.  The most important day for them was School Picnic Day. 

School Picnic Day was usually on the last day of school in June.  On that day, kids played games.  Before the school picnic, parents always packed(装) picnic baskets for their kids.  They put a lot of good food in the baskets. 

Mary is my mother's classmate.  Her family was very poor, so she had no picnic lunch that year.  When my mom knew this, she tried to help her.  Just then, the teacher said there was going to be one final race before lunch.  The first one would get a special lunch basket. 

My mom wanted to take part in the race.  When she saw Mary stand up, she asked Mary if she could be her partner(同伴), and Mary agreed.  My mom tried her best to make Mary win first place. 

Later, Mary came and thanked my mom for being her partner.  She said that her brothers and sisters really enjoyed the picnic lunch and it was the greatest school picnic in the world. 

The bright weather on Saturday, June 15, brought the yellow sun, blue skies and green grass.  But the strawberry brought the red.  

The ABPA（阿宾顿商业会）worked together for the last couple of months to bring back the strawberry festival.  The members decided to hold this event with the welcoming of the Summer Solstice（夏至）.  The festival came alive again with the vendors（摊贩）, games, and races all through the downtown.  

It started with a race for the kids.  Children practised running before the race began.  This gave them many chances to come in first place.  Dressed in a strawberry suit, Miss Strawberry greeted the kids and took pictures with them.  The kids got to draw strawberries on the pavements（人行道）.  They also played with water balloons.  

Local businesses sold their strawberry treats, including strawberries and strawberry pies.  Opened two months ago, Paul and Emily Bobensky, the owners of Lacka Lemonade, sold their fresh lemonade（柠檬味汽水）.  They normally go to the farmers' markets.  It is the first time that they appeared at the strawberry festival.  

Even though it was a strawberry festival, there was a pie-eating contest including blueberry pies.  People gathered around and cheered as five men raced to finish pies without using their hands.  

The ABPA helped with the payment of the parking for the day.  The tea shop raised money for St.  Jude's Hospital.  Everyone was happy and enjoyed the strawberry festival.  It turned out to be a great success.

The Spring Festival is an important festival for Chinese family to get together.  Before it, we always clean the house and decorate (装饰) it for good luck.  During this festival, almost every shop closes for a few days.  We visit relatives (亲戚) and friends.  I love this festival.

Australia Day is on January 26th and it's an important holiday.  We always have one day off.  My parents and I always go to the countryside for a picnic.  Many people go to beach parties or street parties.

The first Thanksgiving Day was born hundreds of years ago.  It's still a very important day for families to be together.  This year we'll visit my grandparents and we'll eat a delicious meal of turkey (火鸡).  Thanksgiving Day is on the fourth Thursday in November every year. 

Qingming, meaning "clear" and "bright", is a very important festival in spring.  It is also called Tomb-sweeping Day.  It comes 1 early April.  On that day, people visit tombs (墓) to honour the dead.  They always 2 some time cleaning the tomb area.  They usually plant some trees near the tombs and decorate them with fresh 3 . 

But it is not 4 a day for honouring the dead.  It is also a good time to enjoy the 5 of spring.  With the coming of spring, nature 6 , dressing the world in green.  All is new, clean and fresh.  Birds begin to 7 nests (鸟巢) for their babies.  In forests and fields, many animals have babies at this time of year.  Days begin to get 8 and the weather gets warmer, 9 Qingming is also a great time for people to enjoy the outdoor activities, 10 flying kites, swinging and hiking.  This is why this festival has been very popular for thousands of years.
