Dolphins often jump out of the waves and turn in the air. It looks like fun, but it's also hard work. So why do they do it? Scientists have found several reasons. 

Dolphins live in groups and use sound to stay in touch. Underwater, it's hard to see far, so when a dolphin jumps and hits the water, the loud noise tells others where it is. Some can turn up to seven times in one jump!

Jumping also helps with hunting and cleaning. The splash (水花) can drive fish together, making them easier to catch. And when small fish called remoras (吸盘鱼) stick to dolphins, a good jump can knock them off. 

Besides these practical reasons, dolphins are smart and playful. They may jump just for fun, sometimes playing with other animals or even humans. 

Finally, water creates drag—a force that slows things down. Jumping into the air lets dolphins travel faster, helping them get away from danger or catch food. They can jump as high as a giraffe, up to six metres!

So next time you see a dolphin jump, remember: it might be talking, hunting, cleaning, playing, or just having a good time. 

Sita had always known her mother was a wonderful cook. One day, she saw an old notebook hidden in the kitchen. Curiously, she opened it. It was full of handwritten recipes (食谱), but the 1 beside each one—small stories and names—caught her eye.

Skaters lean (倾斜) very low when they turn. Their hands can even touch the ice. Why don't they fall?  To stay balanced, they must lean into the turn. Their bodies can be lower than 45 degrees—almost like they're lying on their side! Leaning also stops other skaters from passing them. 

In curling (冰壶运动), one player pushes a heavy stone across the ice.  Why sweep? First, sweeping warms the ice. The ice on top turns into water, so the stone can slide farther and more smoothly.  The players who sweep are called sweepers. They sweep very fast. Top sweepers can brush the ice about 10 times per second. Their sweeping warms the ice by about 2. 3 degrees.

The Chinese tea ceremony（仪式） is a famous part of traditional Chinese culture. It is relaxing for people （ make） and enjoy tea. One popular kind is kungfu tea. It doesn't look very difficult，but people must do it（ careful）. The tea ceremony has long history，and Lu Yu，a man from the Tang Dynasty （618-907），played an important roleits development. 

Lu Yu loved tea very much and spent a lot of time（ learn） about it. He studied different kinds of tea leaves，tools，and ways of making tea all by（ he）. Later，he even（ write） a famous book called Cha Jing（The Classic of Tea）. It was the first book about tea ceremony in China， it is translated into many other languages today. 

Not only the tea itself but also its history（ help） us learn much about Chinese culture. The tea ceremony shows the ideas of harmony and respect. These days，more and more people are drinking tea to relax in their busy lives. Thanks to Lu Yu，we can still enjoy this（value） traditional culture today. 

Most of the time people are honest，but they all tell small lies in their life. People seldom lie just for fun. Instead，they do this for a reason.  

Some people lie just because they are scared. For example，a friend may hide his bad exam result（结果） from you.  This is the moment when you should encourage your friend and give him some support. 

People also tell"white lies"because of kindness.  For example，when our parents are tired after a long day's work，they may say they are not tired at all，just to keep us from worrying. 

 Although it seems strange，they believe they can achieve their dream by saying it over and over again. This usually happens when people want something very much. 

Lies can grow bigger and get out of control（控制）. If you start with a small lie，you will need more lies to cover it up.  It is always good to stop making new lies and tell the truth. 

Do you know that Shenzhen will host the 33 n4 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting（亚太经合组织领导人非正式会议） this November？As the host city，Shenzhen is trying its best to show its best look to the whole world. 

The year 2026 is the APEC"China Year". To make Shenzhen stand out，Shenzhen started a special activity called"Woodpecker Action（啄木鸟行动）"on March 5. This activity asks volunteers and local people to be"city woodpeckers". They will go to the streets to check public signs（标志） in different languages. These small things are very important. They include subway notice，city maps，and street signs. All these details help build visitors' first impressions（印象） of Shenzhen. 

The goal of this activity is clear. We need to make sure every sign is correct，easy to read and well kept. In this way，we can build a kinder，more welcoming and standard multilingual（多语言的） environment for the city. 

It is easy for everyone to take part in this activity. People can use the mini program（小程序） called Volunteer Shenzhen to report problems. For example，they can report wrong or missing foreign-language signs through the mini program. The mini program will also get the location information by itself. The activity tells us，"Every time you record a wrong sign，you are helping Shenzhen get better. "

Now Shenzhen is counting down to the APEC meetings. The city is calling on every person to join the"Woodpecker Action". After all，a warm，clear and friendly city will leave the best impression on visitors from home and abroad. Let's work together to make every small detail of our city perfect. 

Have you ever seen a seal with an eel（鳗鱼） in its nose？It sounds like something from a cartoon，but it really happened in the sea near Hawaii. 

Hawaiian monk seals（夏威夷僧海豹） had this strange problem. Scientists found eels stuck inside their noses. How did this happen？No one knows for sure，but the eels could make the seals sick. So scientists acted quickly. They worked carefully and pulled the eels out. The seals got better，but sadly，the eels did not live. 

Scientists have two ideas about why this happened. The first idea is about how seals find food. In science class，we learn that animals have different ways to catch food. Seals love to eat eels. But eels are smart-they hide in the sand. To catch them，seals push their faces into the sand. Sometimes，an eel gets very scared. When that happens，it may swim into the seal's nose by mistake. The second idea is about how seals' bodies work. Seals sometimes bring food back up from their stomach. By doing so，they can get sand and water out，just like we might cough to clear our throat. So，when a seal does this，an eel in its stomach might come out through its nose by accident. 

No one knows which idea is right. But one thing is clear：these seals needed help，and scientists were there to save them. It shows that even in nature，animals need a helping hand sometimes.

Gu Ailing is a famous Chinese freestyle skier. She has won many Olympic medals. Before the 2026 Winter Games，she told her grandma that she would be1 in every competition.

Recently, our school opened a wonderful "Nature Farm" on the rooftop. 

Long long ago, Shen Nong walked in the forest, and tried different kinds of herbs (草药) by (he). He was tired and poisoned (中毒的) 72 times, 37. he rested under a big tree. Just then, some green (leaf) fell from the tree. He picked one and put it in his mouth. Soon he felt fresh and strong again. That was how people found tea. This story comes from Shen Nong's Classic of Herbal Medicine, one of (early) books about Chinese medicine. 

In 1657, a coffee shop  London put up a sign. It said Chinese tea was good for health and suitable for both old people and young. It also told more than ten advantages of tea, such as protecting eyes and (help) the stomach work well. Less than 200 years later, British people fell in love with tea deeply. The old Chinese story may make people in other countries think  (high) of this special plant. 

Tea was (one) born in China, and these days it  (become) more and more popular around the world. The small green leaf carries a long history and connects the whole world. It is truly a common cultural treasure of humans. 

Do you know what APEC is? It is short for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(亚大经合组织). It is an important business group in the Asia-Pacific area. The members work together to help business grow in this part. In 2026, Shenzhen will be the host city (主办城市) for the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. 

What do we know about the meeting?

 It is the third time China has held APEC, after Shanghai in 2001 and Beijing in 2014. The meeting focuses on openness, new ideas and working together. Leaders from 21 countries will come to Shenzhen to talk about important business problems and find ways to solve them. 

The reasons for choosing Shenzhen are clear. First, it is a global center for new ideas and high technology. Second it has grown very fast in just 40 years, from a small village to a big modern city.  During the meeting, there will be many important activities like business meetings, cultural shows and youth programs. 

What's the meaning of holding APEC?

Holding APEC is a good chance for Shenzhen.It'll also bring more business chances and help Shenzhen become more international. Now, the city is busy getting ready to welcome guests from all over the Asia-Pacific area. People in Shenzhen are proud and happy to host this big event. 

Every year, people throw away millions of old phones, computers, and other electronic (电子的) products. This creates a serious problem called e-waste. These unwanted things often include harmful materials and can pollute our environment. 

To solve this problem, a research team from a Chinese university has created anew, environmentally-friendly material. It is a thin film (薄膜) mainly made from plant fiber (植物纤维). It is a natural material that comes from trees and other plants. This

film is strong enough to be used in electronic products. 

This new material is good for the environment, because it can be produced and recycled (回收) through a special way. Think of this way as a kind of "green magic". It can turn plant materials into the film, and make it go back to nature when people no longer need their electronic products. It becomes part of the soil again. This "green way" needs no fire, no high heat, and no bad chemicals. So it helps make less rubbish. 

What's more, this plant film works excellently. Tests show that electronics with this material work better than those with common materials. And it does not cost more money. This means its good influence on the environment is much greater than that of common materials. 

With so much e-waste around us, such creative ideas are important for a cleaner future. Small changes can make a big difference!

Did you ever watch cats going after each other or dolphins jumping in the water? Like humans, many animals play. Scientists have found several interesting reasons for this behavior. 

For young animals, play helps them learn important life skills. Cats practice fighting through play, preparing for future

dangers. Young birds often play with small sticks, which teaches them how to hunt (捕猎). Bear babies spend time fighting and playing, developing power and hunting abilities. 

Play also helps animals understand social rules. Baby kangaroos often play with their mothers in order to learn how to communicate with others. Wolves use play to setup their roles in the group the strongest wolves play more actively while others follow. 

Even simple play helps animals practice skills. Young horses can walk and run soon after birth to prepare for running away from danger. Some fish jump over floating things in water, and it possibly helps them get ready for real accidents. Some animals even practice parenting through play. Young chimpanzees (黑猩猩) play with stick dolls, and they care for them like real babies. Of course, sometimes animals play just for fun! Birds fly down tops of buildings, and young elephants go down to the river from riverbanks to play like children. These activities may do nothing but bring joy. 

Play matters! And it is the same with us humans. So why not make our growth more enjoyable?

Most travelers planning a trip to China want to visit famous places, such as the Great Wall in Beijing and the Bund in Shanghai. But 26-year-old Luuk Rommel from the Netherlands chose a different place -- the Dounan Flower Market in

Kunming, Yunnan. 

Standing among roses, lilies and other flowers, Rommel watched people picking out flowers. "I love all the fresh and colorful flowers here. It's interesting to see tulips (郁金香) which we also have in the Netherlands --sold here," he said. The Netherlands is quite famous for its tulips all over the world. Finally, Rommel bought a large bouquet (花束) of 20 yellow roses. 

After leaving the flower market, Rommel tried a special local snack flower cakes with rose fillings. He was captivated by the special local food. "The rose flower cake is so delicious," he said. "It is sweet and smells good. This is a wonderful surprise from Yunnan. " He also tried coffee made from local beans grown in Yunnan. "I never knew China produced such great coffee. It's as good as what I once had in Italy. "

Rommel's trip shows a change in how foreign tourists experience China. They no longer just visit famous places. Instead, they hope to experience the everyday life here. In later days, Rommel had Yunnan food and even tried wearing traditional Yunnan costumes (服饰). "Living like a local here is a lot of fun," he said. 

I always hated small talk (寒暄). It made me feel bored and nervous. My classmates talked about the rain when it was clearly raining heavily outside. Neighbours asked me "How are you?", but they didn't really1 my answer. Every talk felt like a half-hearted performance, and the 2 also seemed boring and meaningless. 

All that changed last month. At an art show, I suddenly got a new idea: I could线 look at small talk in a new way. I didn't want to feel 3 "not talking well" anymore. So I decided to do something 4 .
