[中华优秀传统文化·编钟] Musical instruments have a very long history in China. We know of flutes that date back to the early Neolithic period(石器时代). We also know that, before the Shang Dynasty, bells and drums were part of the musical activities. During the Zhou Dynasty and the flute

following Warring States Period, drums and bells were used in wars to warn the enemy and to give the army signals during the enemy attacks. However, the preferred places for music were special celebrations. Different instruments were brought together to form a band, which created a wonderful world of sounds. 

The most complete set of instruments was discovered in the wooden, four-chamber tomb(四室墓) of Marquis Yi of Zeng. One of the four chambers served as a place for musical performances. And there were enough instruments to make a full band——125 pieces in total and nine different kinds of instruments. It has 65 chime bells, which are made up of one bo bell, nineteen niu bells and forty-five yong bells. The bo bell was a gift from the King of Chu. These instruments were hung on a frame(框架) that was painted with red and black. 

The bells were sorted by size, which also showed the different kinds of sounds. The bells were sounded by hitting them. The shape of each bell decided that it could only sound two notes, one at the side and the other at the center when you hit it. The bells were made of bronze(青铜) and other metals. They have 3, 755 characters in total, all of which are covered with gold. The characters are mostly about the musical sounds of the bells. 

[中华优秀传统文化·针灸] Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese way to help people       insert a needle with common health problems. It has   for over 2, 000 years in the East, but it was only introduced to the West recently. It was introduced in the USA in 1971 and then accepted by the healthcare system. People are becoming increasingly worried about the side         acupuncture effects of drugs(药物副作用), and are turning to   such as yoga and acupuncture to add to, or sometimes even replace Western medicine. 

I changed my opinion about acupuncture after several   insomnia(失眠). I felt mentally(精神上) and   tired, nearing my breaking point. A visit to a doctor   to make things any better. A friend suggested that I try acupuncture. With a fear of needles, I   his advice in the beginning. However, my condition was still ongoing and getting much  , and then I was ready to try anything. 

So after another sleepless night, I   the only acupuncturist in my area. By taking my pulse(脉搏), looking at my tongue, and asking some questions about my lifestyle, he believed that I was too tired. Ifound this quite amazing since he hadn't asked me  I had come to see him. He then inserted a thin  in my right foot and I fell asleep at once. The whole experience was like a miracle(不可思议的事) that I'd never imagined even in my wildest dreams. 

Beijing Opera is one of the most important parts of Chinese culture. It shows plays and characters mainly through four art forms: singing, dialogue(对话), dancing and martial arts (武术). Over the past hundreds of years, the roles in Beijing Opera have developed into four major types, which are Sheng, Dan, Jing and Chou. 

Lady White Snake, a dance production by Shanghai Grand Theater(SGT), will make its first show at the Summer for the City—— Shanghai Day event in New York. The event 1 encourage people- to- people exchange through cultural communication. 

On July 26 and 27, 2 shows of the classic Chinese story will be held at the David H. Koch Theater, one of New York City's most famous theaters. The first U. S. show will be performed by an international team of creators and performers. This team is 3 by a famous Chinese artist Tan Yuanyuan. With the creativity ofEastern stage aesthetics(美学), the performance will 4 show the cultural energy of modern Chinese performing arts to the world. 

The dance Lady White Snake is a creative adaptation(改编) of China's famous story, The Tale of the WhiteSnake. It 5 a thousand- year- old story into a deep exploration of the human spirit. 

Zhang Xiaoding, general manager of SGT, said that Lady White Snake was 6 in 2025. They wanted to retell the story through the 7 of classical ballet(芭蕾) and Chinese classical dance, mixing the two art forms. 

8 the Shanghai Day event, a Chinese folk music concert will also be held. A musical festival and a 9 market will show Shanghai's cultural products, cartoon arts and special foods and drinks. Through these performances and 10 , people will fully enjoy the artistic creativity of Chinese artists. 

Xiangsheng is a popular Chinese comedy performance. It uses funny jokes about everyday life to make people  . Though similar shows existed before, xiangsheng became an independent art form during the Qing Dynasty. Early performers like Zhu Shaowen helped spread it. Zhu   perform in Beijing's Tianqiao area, starting with a special poem and then copying street sounds. 

There are  of xiangsheng:

●Dankou: One person tells jokes and stories. 

●Duikou: Two people perform(the most popular type). One leads the talk, the other joins in. 

●Qunkou: Three or more people perform together  . 

Performers need clear speech, good copying skills, and the ability to create"baofu"(funny surprises). Each performer has a style that   others. The main goal is to make people happy. Today, xiangsheng remains a fun and important part of Chinese culture. 

Learning new things on your own can be exciting. It improves your brain, helps you feel happy, and gives you important knowledge and skills. 

However, it can also be challenging.  It's also hard to find time to study when you' re busy with school, courses, and other activities. And let's face it—— sometimes, you forget what you' ve learned pretty quickly. 

  It is an educational method that provides new information in small and manageable pieces. But what are the key features(特征) of microlearning, and why do they help you learn so well?

Instead of trying to learn everything all at once, you focus on a few key points at a time. After learning those points, you take a break.   In this way, it helps move the information from short-term to long- term memory. 

Another great thing is that this method can improve your memory. Our brains tend to remember the first and last things we hear or read more easily than the middle parts.   So the most important points are easier to remember. This doesn't mean you' ll forget everything else—— it just means you get a little extra(额外的) help to remember certain things. 

One of the best parts of microlearning is that it fits easily into your daily life. You can learn while you' re walking to school, waiting for the bus, or even during a short break.   At the same time, you' ll feel relaxed. This makes microlearning not only convenient but also enjoyable. You can keep learning without feeling like you' re sacrificing(牺牲) your free time. 

Should books always have a happy ending?

The purpose of World Book Day is to encourage people to enjoy reading and there's no doubt that a book's ending is usually a big part of that joy. Even so, there are plenty of stories that don't finish on a happy note. What do you think? Should books always have a happy ending?

Part of the reason we read in the first place is that reading makes us happy. We read to get away from troubles and worries in real life. If your reading experiences are full of sadness or other negative feelings, you may give up reading. If your experiences of reading are connected to positive feelings, you could be encouraged to carry on reading. It doesn't mean stories with happy endings cannot make you enjoy reading. They can also include surprises, which make the stories quite dramatic and exciting, even if you know everything's going to end well. Exploring love in the characters' lives is equally as satisfying. 

In real life, the story doesn't stop at the"happy ending". It doesn't end. It keeps going past that happy moment to a lifetime of more moments both good and bad. Books with unhappy endings are useful because they show you the true feelings such as sadness but in a controlled way. They can help you deal with these feelings in your life. The stories explore the painful side of love and the topic of heartbreak. Reading about these kinds of things in stories can help make us feel like we' re not alone in our personal experiences. Some experts say that experiencing negative feelings can make you better at understanding how other people are feeling. This ability, known as empathy, helps you to connect with people and support them through hard times. It's the"unhappy"endings that have the greatest influence. 

Adam was in the sixth grade. He   the science test again. Ms. Li asked him, "Why can't you get good scores in science?" Adam replied, "Because I don't think science is very   in our lives. "Ms. Li disagreed with him. She said, "We can use science everywhere if we connect knowledge with daily practice. "

One day, Adam saw   grandfather throw some dried flowers away. He asked why these flowers were dead. Grandfather explained, "These flowers are dead because they haven't been   for a long time. " At that moment, Ms. Li's words came into Adam's mind. He thought that science might be helpful in  the problem.

77,019 HOURS is the highest number of volunteer hours.   She volunteered at a hospital in Louisiana, from its opening in 1959 until she stopped working at the age of 89 in 2012. 

$53, 122 is the most money raised at a lemonade stand(柠檬水摊) in 24 hours. The Pink Lemonade Stand Challenge ran a stand in Pennsylvania on October8, 

2023. Kids sold lemonade, cookies and hand-made cards. The stand raised money to help some cancer patients.  

943, 195 PEOPLE worked on the largest coastal clean-up activity. In 2019, the largest coastal clean-up activity took place. Volunteers from 116 countries cleaned 25, 000 miles of beaches.   They wore gloves, laughed together, and left the beaches clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy. This global effort showed how teamwork can protect our planet. 

Volunteers are the people who offer to contribute(贡献) their personal time and energy to public services. They can provide their knowledge, skills and physical strength for others in need. They play an important role in human development and social progress without expecting any rewards.

At present, more and more people want to be volunteers. However, not everyone can make it. We may have an interview for volunteer work. The following suggestions will help make the interview a success.

We should do some research on the volunteer work. We can call the organization or visit its website to find out some information about it. It's also important for us to think about what questions the interviewers may ask. It will help the interview go smoothly.

When leaving for the interview, we must remember to take all the things that we need. And we' re supposed to be at the interview about 30 minutes early. It allows us to get ready for the interview.

Before we go into the interview room, we can take a deep breath to relax ourselves. When we hear the interviewers ask us to go inside, we can enter the room. We should greet the interviewers with a smile and stand until they ask us to sit down.

In answering questions, we should be confident to show our talents and skills. It's important to look the interviewers in the eye even if we are very nervous and shy. If we can't understand the interviewers' questions, it's acceptable to ask the interviewers to explain them further.

Before the interview is over, the interviewers usually invite us to ask some questions. We can ask a question about the work or the interview. For example, "What kind of training do you offer to volunteers?" We are supposed to thank the interviewers before we leave.

Hu Ke was a student from the College of Arts of Sichuan University. She was also a volunteer for the 12thWorld Games in Chengdu in 2025. This was not the 1 time she had served in an international sports event. She had once served as a guide for the opening ceremony of the Chengdu Universiade, 2 the guide sign for the Chinese team and walking into the main stadium(体育场).

When asked why she chose baozi, Aria explained, " Chinese families often make dumplings together. I would like to create that warmth for everyone. " Her baozi stood out—— she colored the dough(面团) in bright colors and  playful designs like animals and cartoon characters. She spent a lot of time perfecting each baozi's look and taste. Combining her passion for robotics, she designed a 3D printer to make baozi,   new technology. 

Her creations gained fame after winning first prize at the 2023 BC Dumpling Festival. She later started the Bots and Buns Fest to  . After earning $5, 000, Aria aided her elderly neighbors, honoring her cultural values. Her actions inspired others to act  . This continues to encourage people of all ages to care for others. 

In June 2025, a labor(劳动) practice and vocational(职业的) experience activity for primary and middle school students was held at Yunnan Technician College in Kunming.   In China, more and more primary and middle schools are finding fun and creative ways to help students learn about different jobs and careers. This is called vocational enlightenment(启迪) education. You may wonder why it is important for students. 

This education is not just about helping students understand different jobs.   For example, when students work together to organize an event, they learn teamwork. Students might not know exactly what job they want yet, but they' re developing qualities like confidence, responsibility and creativity. 

  When they face difficulties in their tasks, they learn to think carefully and find solutions. In this way, students can connect classroom learning with real-world applications. Moreover, students can see how knowledge from different subjects is connected and used together. For example, designing a poster uses art and math skills, while writing a guidebook improves language abilities. 

What's more, vocational enlightenment education helps students discover what they enjoy and what they' re good at. Some students find they enjoy working with food. Others prefer fixing things or using computers.  

In short, these experiences are valuable because they prepare students for the future. This is a good time for them to explore their future possibilities and make plans.   It's important to try everything possible and keep fighting for what they love in the end!

Alex was looking for a new job. One day, he received a call from a company he had always wanted to work for. They invited him for an interview next Monday, and Alex was excited about the great opportunity. He arrived at the company's office ten minutes early, dressed in his best suit, and ready to impress. 

At first, Alex answered all the questions confidently in clear words, and the interview was going on well. However, towards the end of the interview, the interviewer looked at him gently and asked him one more question. 

" If you were given a project that you' ve never done before, what would you do?"

What do translators do? A translator turns written or spoken words from one language into another. The translator's main job is to keep the original(原始的) messages and feelings the  . Translators help with people's communication when they speak different languages. They work in areas like business, law, medicine and technology. They help people solve language problems they cannot solve by   in a foreign country and let them understand another language. 

Translators need to know both the original language and other languages   in order to translate correctly. It's also important for translators to understand cultural differences, so their translations sound natural. They need to keep the original meaning, feeling, and style while making sure the translation is appropriate(恰当的) for the target   culture. Translating isn't just about changing words. Translators must be good at finding out the hidden cultural meanings. So, becoming a good translator is not easy and   big effort. 

Translators also need to keep up with language or cultural changes, as well as the   of the industry. So far, a large number of new Internet terms   the difficulty of translators' work. Studying helps them improve their language skills and keep up with changes in language use. So, for translators, they all need to keep   throughout their lives.

我与摄影结缘

When I was 12, my art teacher showed the class a camera. That day, I 1 my love for recording moments. My parents noticed my interest and gave me a second-hand camera as a birthday gift. I 2 it everywhere—— to school picnics and family trips. 

At first, my photos were 3 , but I didn't lose hope. I knew that the beginning of everything is the hardest. So I couldn't 4 . I kept practicing and asked my art teacher for help when I had problems. During summer vacation, I joined a photography camp. The teachers taught us different skills. Little by little, I learned to tell stories 5 photos, and my skills improved a lot. Every time I saw the beautiful pictures I took, I felt very 6 and happy. 

Last year, my teacher encouraged me to create a photo collection about our school life. I spent many evenings 7 and organizing photos of students studying, playing sports, and volunteering. The 8 made me happier than ever. When I showed it in class, my classmates were surprised and gave high praise. "It is so9 , " my art teacher said. 

Now, to become a photographer, I read photography books in the library and watch free online lessons. Every time I hold my camera, I remember my teacher's words:"Great10 come from patience and effort. "I believe everyone can turn his or her hobby into a future job. 

Last Monday night, our class got together under a clear sky for a stargazing(观星) event. We were excited to   to the stars!

We couldn't see many stars with just our eyes, so our teacher brought a telescope. After     telescope learning how to use it, we could see planets and bright stars clearly. They were more beautiful than we had imagined. 

The moon really surprised me. I   think it was just a round, bright rock, but its surface had many holes and dark spots. It was amazing. 

Sadly, clouds came so we had to stop early. But this activity showed us how interesting the universe is. Before, we thought watching stars was too difficult and   life, but that night changed our minds. Looking at the stars, I thought: Maybe I can study space and   when I grow up. 

Now I can't wait to learn the mysteries of the universe and discover what lies  . I even started reading books about space in my free time, hoping to get closer to my dream.
