Teenage Life—Better Now, or in the Past?
Does this situation sound familiar (熟悉)?
You are complaining to your parents about something. Maybe your computer isn't powerful enough to play the latest games. Then you hear... "When I was your age, there weren't any computers or video games. And I didn't get a bike until I was sixteen. And it was second-hand. "
So, is it really true that life is better for teenagers now? It is certainly true that many teenagers have got more things nowadays. A typical family is smaller now. So parents have got more money to spend on each child. And many things are cheaper than they were when our parents were children.
Forty years ago, no one could imagine a world with tiny computers and amazing smartphones. And now these things are necessary and we can't imagine living without them! However, technology (科技) often means we spend more time at home. And often it's just us, with our computer or television. Teenagers don't do enough exercise. And, although young people still get on well with their friends, some people think teenagers today don't have so many social things as they did in the past.
What do you think? Is teenage life better these days?
A.And it was too big for me.
B.Or your friends' bikes are better than yours.
C. So they aren't as healthy as they were in the past.
D.Technology is probably the greatest change in our life.
E. It makes their lives not so boring.
What do you think of teenage life today?

What do you call your mother's mother? Whether you say laolao or waipo depends on your dialect (方言). And humans aren't the only ones who have different dialects. Animals do, too!
Scientists at Aarhus University in Denmark spent six years studying sperm whales (抹香鲸) in the Caribbean. They found that the animals communicate through special clicking noises. This call has never been found in Pacific whales.
According to National Geographic, researchers studied the howls (嚎叫) of different species of wolves. They found that red wolves, Arctic wolves and coyotes (郊狼) have howls that can change in pitch (音高). In other words, they have their own dialects.
Other animals that have been shown to have dialects include bats and dogs.
So how do animals develop their own dialects? According to Darcy Kelley from Columbia University, most animals learn their accents (口音) naturally. For example, macaques (猕猴) start speaking their dialect as soon as they are born. Scientists placed some macaques in a new environment where their playmates all spoke a different dialect. But the macaques still spoke their own dialect. Their environment had no impact (影响) on their communication, according to the Washington Post.
However, some animals can change their accent according to their environment. Birds who live in cities develop different accents from those in the countryside. To deal with loud city noise, city birds' tweets (小鸟的叫声) are high-pitched, according to the Sun. These high-pitched tweets are easier to hear in noisy places.
So can animals learn a new dialect from others?
Professor Kelley said that the right "accent" is key to survival (生存)—it helps animals find a mate and warn (警告) of danger. A species won't change the dialect it is born with.
(1)、The sperm whales in Paragraph 2 are used to show that ____.A、animals can communicate with each other

D、Because wolves can communicate with each other by howling.(3)、Birds living in cities develop high-pitched accents to ____.A、attract mates B、make special sounds

Many kids help out around the house with chores such as cleaning the windows, sweeping the floor, and taking out the rubbish. By doing these chores, some kids get money or other rewards (奖励) such as computer time.
But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. Susie Walton, a parenting educator, thinks that by rewarding kids, parents are sending a message that work isn't worth (值得) doing if you don't get something back. "A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It's important for kids to see that we all have duties in the house, and that families decide together how they want their home to look, and how they are going to keep it looking like everyone wants it to look," Susie said.
Other people think that getting money or other rewards encourages kids to do chores, and it also teaches them real world lessons about how we need to work to make money. There are new apps that give kids points (积分) and digital (电子的) gifts that can be redeemed online or in the real world. For example, with the chore Monster app, kids can use their digital points from chores to get a ticket to the park.
What do you think? Should kids be rewarded for doing chores? Or should kids help out around their homes and get nothing? Share your story and send it to tfasks33you@timeforkids.com.
(1)、How does the passage begin?A、By listing some numbers. B、By showing some facts (事实).

During my summer vacation, I visited Pingjiang in Yueyang with my parents. One special place we went to was the Pingjiang Uprising Memorial Hall (平江起义纪念馆). It wasn't just a fun trip, it also taught me a lot about history.
When we walked into the hall, I saw old photos, rusty guns and swords (生锈的枪和剑) and old maps everywhere. A person in our group asked the guide, "Why did this uprising happen?" The guide told us that in 1928, brave soldiers (勇敢的士兵) fought for a better life. We all listened quietly because the story was sad but also very encouraging.
I didn't touch (触碰) anything in the museum, but I took photos of all the interesting things. In one room, there was a video showing how the soldiers worked together. We could all feel how brave they were! My mom said, "We should never forget what they sacrificed (牺牲)." We agreed and thought about how lucky we are to live in peace now. Before we left, I bought a postcard with a picture of the memorial hall. No one wanted to leave quickly. We all stayed for a bit more time to read the stories of the heroes on the walls.
