Do people like the same color? Of course not. Why? Because different people have different ideas. Black is one of the popular colors. People like it because it makes people look thinner. White is a clean color, but it is easy to get dirty. Blue is the colour of the sky and the sea. It often makes people feel cool. Green is a good color for our eyes. After doing homework for a long time, you can watch something green. Yellow is a lovely color, but if you are in a yellow room for a long time, you may get angry easily.

Colors are not only colors, they can tell much more. In English, when you have so many falls that your legs can be "black and blue" all over. When you are young, you can say you are "in the green". If you are sad, you "feel blue". If you are angry, you can say you "see red". When you find a big dog standing on your way, don't be "yellow"!

Colors are really interesting.

First, people in different countries have different ways of greeting each other. In Japan, people usually bow to greet others and show respect (尊重). In France and Italy, people often kiss on the cheeks. In France, they kiss 2—5 times in different places. In Italy, they usually kiss twice, right cheek first, then left.

Second, there are many differences in eating habits. Chinese people eat rice, noodles, vegetables and meat while Western people love bread, milk, salad and steak. People in many Western countries usually eat with a knife and fork, but Chinese eat with chopsticks (筷子). Indians even use their hands to eat! In China, if your guests have no food on their plates, it's polite to put food on their plates. In Canada, you pass food to guests, but you don't usually put food on their plates.

It's important for people to respect different cultural customs. That will help people from all countries understand each other well and live happily together.

Hot pot usually needs a big pot of boiling soup. Then, people can put many things in it as they like, such as beef, chicken, fish, cabbages, mushrooms, potatoes, eggs, tofu, noodles and so on. People in China love hot pot all year round. It keeps the body warm in winter. Even on hot summer days, many people still love the delicious taste of hot pot.

Hot pot can be different across China. Chongqing is famous for its spicy (辛辣的) red soup. But in Guangdong, the hot pot is not spicy. The mild taste shows another side of Chinese food culture.

So, hot pot is more than just food. It's a part of Chinese culture.

Teaching Building

In the middle of the school stands our teaching building. It's a four-storey building. Our classrooms are on the second and third floors. We study English, math and other subjects here. But we have our science lessons in the lab building.

Library

Next to the teaching building is the library. It's between the science lab and the teachers' office. There are lots of books in it. Sometimes we have our reading lessons there. We often borrow books and read newspapers after class.

Playground

Behind the teaching building is our playground. It's a very large and happy place. We not only do morning exercises but also play sports after class. Sometimes we have PE lessons on it.

Every place in my school is useful and beautiful. We love our school because it is like oursecond home. School is a building which has four walls with tomorrow inside.

After three weeks of planning, we took one night off. We called it the "family night". It was a night for families to spend time together. Sports teams stopped their practices, and teachers did not give homework.

On the "family night", we decided to turn off our televisions. "We also decided not to answer the phone," answering machines said. "Please call back tomorrow." Many families ordered hamburgers and other food from stores or restaurants so that they wouldn't need to spend time cooking.

There were lots of activities. Storytelling and card games were the most popular. These activities gave families the chance (机会) to spend time together. Children and parents weren't so busy, and children didn't spend so much time playing computer games or watching TV. On the "family night", families relaxed and spent the evening together. The custom of eating Laba Porridge first started in the Song Dynasty and became popular in the Qing Dynasty. Now it is over one thousand years. When farmers get a good harvest after their hard work, they will show their thanks to the ancestors, and heaven and earth. And they will celebrate their harvest by boiling Laba Porridge.

Laba Porridge is mainly made of different rice, beans and dried nuts. People add sugar and dried fruits to make it more delicious than before. After hours of boiling, the porridge is offered as a sacrifice to the ancestors and is served to friends before noon.

Family members eat Laba Porridge together and some kind people hand out the porridge to the poor.

After more than 10 centuries of development, Laba Porridge becomes a kind of very healthy food in winter. People of different ages love it.

Last weekend, I went to a reunion with my old classmates from primary school. We hadn't seen each other for six years, so everyone was excited.

Linda, my best friend, came from Beijing. She told me she's now a volunteer teacher in a village. "I teach kids English and music. They love singing, so I often play the guitar for them," she said. I was happy to hear that—she was always talented in music.

Mike, who loved model airplanes as a kid, is now studying to be an engineer. "I design airplane parts in my free time," he said, showing me photos of his models. "It's not easy, but I never give up. I want to make safer airplanes someday."

We talked about our favourite memories: chatting online after school, doing physics experiments, and even the time Tom cheated in a test (he still felt embarrassed about it!). Though we're in different cities now, we promised to have another reunion next year.

It was a wonderful day—full of laughter and hope for the future.
