Xu Mengtao is a Chinese player in the women's freestyle skiing aerials (空中技巧项目). She won the gold medal (奖牌) at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The gold is also China's first gold in the event.

As a four-time Olympian, Xu Mengtao was super excited after the victory. "This is the first gold medal won by China in women's aerials, and it's just super cool. I just wanted to perform my best and I did it." she said.

Xu Mengtao has already owned 27 World Cup goals and received the highest score in the world for jumps among women's aerial skiers. But she only managed to bring home a silver medal from the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

Because of the wounds, she finished sixth and ninth in Vancouver 2010 and Pyeongchang 2018, so winning Olympic gold has been a "lifelong wish".

It was the fourth time for Xu to take part in the Winter Olympics. "Although it's been a long journey. I always believe in myself." she said. She has been in good shape for the past years, so she has given her best to prepare for the game. She believed training and keeping in good form brought her the gold medal.

The advantage of hard work may come late, but it will come for sure.

El Nino causes too much water, a long period of dry weather and other bad weather conditions around the world.

El Nino is the name of the bad weather that happens in the Pacific Ocean. In summer, the rain falls in South Asia. But in some years, the Pacific Ocean moves this rainfall east. This warms the ocean as it travels, before finally reaching the coasts of North and South America. Cold water is pushed out of the way by the warm water. As fish don't like warm water, they swim to other places. Birds that depend on them also move away.

The warmer temperatures cause too much water in southern US and South America. And because the warm rain clouds move east, long periods of dry weather happen in South Asia, Australia and even Africa.

El Nino usually lasts nine to twelve months. But its influences are felt around December. It doesn't happen every year though, usually between two to seven years.

The strongest El Nino happened in 1982—1983. In the West Pacific, it caused very serious dry weather, sandstorms and forest fires in Australia, Africa and South Asia. In the East Pacific, Peru (秘鲁) was hit with about 3m of rainfall in areas where about 15cm was normal. It is the heaviest rainfall ever recorded. That year's El Nino caused 1,300—2,000 people to die.

"You have ten minutes now before lunch. Why not begin immediately?" asked his brother.

"Ten minutes! That's nothing. Besides, I must have a run with my dog Rover now," replied Robert.

After lunch, the two boys walked to school again. Frank took out his book and began to learn part of it as he walked along. While Robert looked for birds in the trees all the way to school.

"Come with us to play football!" shouted a group of school friends as they finished school for the day. Robert ran away with the boys. Frank promised to follow in 15 minutes, and took out his book once more. This done, he played with the boys, and enjoyed the game.

The two brothers were tired that evening, and went to bed early. But when they returned to school the next day, Frank knew his lesson perfectly. However, Robert told the teacher that he did not have time to learn it.

"How did you find time, Frank?" asked his teacher.

"I had 10 minutes before lunch yesterday; 15 minutes as I walked back to school; and another 15 minutes before playing football. Then I looked over my lesson for 10 minutes before going to bed; and took 10 minutes before breakfast this morning to make it perfect."

"That makes an hour's preparation," replied his teacher. "Frank, you may run and play at break time. Robert, you will spend break time learning that lesson. And you will continue to do that until you have learnt this important lesson: those who take care of the minutes will have the hours to take care of themselves."

Chen started paper folding when he was a fourth-grader after seeing a book from his brother. Following the 50 steps shown in the book, he made his first work, a paper peacock (孔雀), within two hours.

Since then, he has read many books about paper-folding and has practiced it in his spare time. So far, his "paper-folding world" has many members, such as animals, plants and even robots. And he made his favorite work last year. It's a paper dragon that includes almost 2,000 steps.

Chen used to fold paper himself until he met Chen Changnan, another eighth-grader at his school, who also loves paper-folding. They set up a paper-folding club. Over 20 students soon joined the club. With support from school, they organize a paper-folding activity every Wednesday afternoon. They exhibit their works and teach students how to fold. In February, the club was even invited to give a speech to kids in Wenzhou Children's Library.

"It's really exciting to develop my hobby and share it with others at the same time," said Chen. "I hope more and more people get to know paper-folding and love this art."

Peking Opera (京剧) used to sound strange to Dou Yi. The 14-year-old Beijinger said whenever she found Peking Opera on TV, she watched another programme. Like most of today's1, Dou loves pop music.

But since she2 the Xuanwu Branch School of Beijing No. 15 Middle School, she has been studying Peking Opera in music class every week.

Dou and her classmates listen to Peking Opera and3 the basics from experienced actors. They also sing along with the operas.

"At first, we felt it really4 to learn some musical notes, and we often laughed,5 later I found it was not difficult to learn Peking Opera and I understood a little about it." said Dou.

Since 2008,6 around our country have been teaching students Peking Opera. It's part of a plan to introduce young people to our country's traditional culture.7, Dou's school has been taking the job seriously.

"I learn a lot of history from the operas," she said. "I've also8 many ancient poems, since there are so many of them in the operas."

"When you learn more about it, you'll9 it more. If people do study it, this10 art form won't disappear. It would be a great pity if it did!" she said.

As many pet owners know, pets can make a person's day bright and even provide comfort in difficult times. Now a survey has shown that owning pets is good for our mental (心理的) health. More than 2, 000 American adults took part in the survey. Of these adults, 72% said they had pets. Dogs were the most common type of animal, followed by cats.

Among pet owners, 84% said their pets had mostly good influence on their mental health. About 64% said their pets provided unconditional (无条件的) love and support, while 62% said their pets provided a calming presence (在场) and lowered stress and anxiety (焦虑). Dog and cat owners were especially likely to say their pets were good for their mental health.

"We see the powerful relationship between people and their animals," said Rena Carlson, president of the AVMA (美国兽医协会). "From offering presence and love to lowering stress and anxiety, pets can give us comfort and support."

A recent study by researchers in Australia got the same result. It found that having a dog led children to be more active because they walked and played with their pets. Girls who had a dog exercised 52 more minutes per day than those who didn't.

However, pets can also cause anxiety to owners, especially when it comes to the animals' health. More than half of pet owners were worried about their pets having health problems, growing older, or passing away. Many people also tried their best to arrange (安排) pet care when they travelled.

We are excited to be pen pals with you. Thanks for telling us about New Hampshire, We would love to visit someday, especially in the winter so we can see snow for the (one) time. We don't get snow in Malaysia. We live in Petaling Jaya. We have lots parks and there is plenty to do.

We don't have any seasons except for the monsoon season (雨季), when it rains non-stop. Recently, it rained so much that there was flooding (洪水) in parts of Malaysia.

thankfully it didn't flood where we live. It's (usual) warm all the time, but it can get very hot and wet. We get really sweaty (出汗的) when we are outdoors. We mostly wear shorts or dresses.

The (good) time of day to do outdoor activities is either in the morning or the evening when it is cooler.   There is a park behind(we) home. We like (ride) our bikes, skateboarding and exploring (探险) together there.

When it's hot, our favorite thing to do is to jump into a pool to cool off. Having ice cream any cold drink helps, too. We also turn on the air conditioner (空调) most of the time.

Thankfully, there are plenty of things to do indoors like museums, cinemas, science centers, the bird park, walking around huge malls, or playing a board game at home.

Artificial intelligence (AI，人工智能) is the ability of a computer to "think" like a human. This means it can from its mistakes and perform tasks that usually need human intelligence.

The concept (概念) of AI has been around for a long time, but it was difficult to make it work. In recent years, AI has and it can now carry out complex (复杂的) tasks. This will influence lives, so it is important to know both the good and bad sides.

AI can process (处理) large amounts of information much faster a person can. In video games, AI can make the computer learn how to act like a human player, creating a more realistic gaming if you are playing against the computer. AI can also be a useful tool in education because it can explain complex topics (话题) to people simple ways.

However, AI is not. It makes mistakes and can give the answers to questions. It also doesn't have feelings or a human's sense of right and wrong, so it can sometimes be rude (粗暴的) or give bad advice. It can also be used in unkind or unfair ways.

Whatever you think about AI, it is here to stay. you have any questions about it, ask a responsible adult.

During the camp, Mrs. Tan, their teacher, held a briefing (简介) for all the teams. They were busy talking about how to win the hunt. After the briefing, each team was given ten minutes to fix their plans before setting off. Elise and Mei Lin argued about whose plan was better. After the ten minutes was up, they still could not decide and went to look for the treasure without having a plan.

When they realized they were losing, Elise and Mei Lin got upset and started blaming (指责) each other. "You didn't collect the map!" Mei Lin shouted. "You didn't listen carefully to the instructions during the briefing," Elise argued. Mrs. Tan saw them arguing and advised, ""

The most popular kind of hot pot is the Sichuan hot pot, with its red peppers (辣椒) and huajiao. What makes Sichuan hot pot different from other hot pots is the use of huajiao. It is said that the spicy (辣的) food helps people live through Sichuan's hot and wet weather. The Beijing hot pot uses mutton and many of the same ingredients (食材) as the Sichuan hotpot. Since its broth (底汤) is mostly just water and has no red peppers, it is not spicy. The Northeast hot pot usually uses pork and pickled (腌制的) cabbage, while the Guangdong hot pot uses a chicken or a fish broth, and is known for its many kinds of ingredients, including seafood. Almost any kind of ingredient can be found in hot pot cooking. There are as many kinds of hot pots as there are cooks.

With a hot pot, you can put in any ingredient that you like. The same pot can serve any number of different meals to the people sitting around the table. No one is left out, and everyone gets to eat as much or as little as they want. This shows the Chinese cultural values of openness and sharing. Finally, not only does hot pot taste wonderful, but eating hot pot is the perfect way to spend time with others.

People like to joke that there is no problem that a hot pot can't solve. The fire from a hot pot can melt (融化) any disagreement and warm any heart. Over a hot pot people can talk and share not just food, but friendship. While the food may soon be forgotten, these friendships stay with us forever.

The river is also important because it runs through the Amazon rain forest. Home to some of the planet's most amazing and unusual binds, fish, insects, and animals, the Amazon rain forest has the most plant and animal species (种类) in the world. Brightly colored parrots, monkeys, and frogs live here. In the water, you'll find pink dolphins. Some of the plants and trees in the rain forest have been used as medicines for thousands of years.

The river became known as the Amazon during the mid-1500s. A Spanish (西班牙人) saw some women fighters along its lower banks and named the river after them. In Greek mythology (神话), the Amazons were a group of women who were very good at fighting.

Often people will do things to anger you. When this happens, it's not good to react immediately, but after you've calmed down, look at the positive (积极的) qualities in that person.

I'm not asking you to be a doormat (受气包) or simply look at the positive qualities when someone is being unkind to you. Instead, I'm suggesting that you take a look at the positive qualities in addition to everything else. Here's an example: Let's say you're taking your son or daughter to a basketball game. You' re in the line and the guy behind you, who is also with his child, starts pushing. You ask him to back off and he gets angry, and perhaps starts shouting. All of this is taking place in front of your child and his child.

Finally things calm down. Perhaps you' re still angry and silently cursing (咒骂) him as you sit in your chair. But can you see anything positive in that person? Most people would say no. But at least he was trying to spend some time with his kid just like you did. You don't know anything else about the person, but you just find some positıve qualities.

Too often we focus only on a person's negative (消极的) qualities and forget the good things. By looking at the positive, you get your mind to move its attention. It now begins to see things differently and thus (所以) sends a different message and different energy to your sense. This will bring positive situations to you. It's that old saying:" What goes around comes around. " You focus on the good things in other people, and other people will see the good things in you and you' ll attract positive situations in your life. For example: 4. ________.

When you do this you also let out the anger and unhappiness, thus creating more positive energy. Try doing thus with people you know and don't know. Creating positive energy is important to your success and happiness. Let's face it. You certainly don't want negative energy or a negative lifestyle.

Lyu Linyou is a scientist who helps protect the environment in Zhangwu County.

Zhangwu County on the edge of the Horqin sandy land. Sand and dust storms a big problem in the past. At one point, 95% of the county was covered in desert land.

In 2004, Lyu Linyou from college and he was only 24 years old then. The place he started working the Provincial Institute (研究院) of Sandy Land Use. He has worked there for 20 years up to now. Nowadays, the institute as the Sand Control and Usage Research Institute of the Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

When Lyu Linyou first came to the county, he didn't know much about how sand. But with the help of his colleagues (同事) and local farmers, he quickly learned how to do it.

In order to find the best grass and herbs (草药) for helping the grasslands in Zhangwu Couty grow back, Lyu more than 400 different plants till now. He tested them and found more than 50 plants that work really well. To our joy, his work shows how science protect the earth and make life better for ever. Because of his hard work, the grasslands in the area healthier day by day.

"Though I have made great progress, I to work hard nonstop to make sure the environment to get better and better," he said, "And I am sure this will also create new jobs for the people in this area in the future."

The Juyongguan Great Wall was built during the Spring and Autumn Period. It was rebuilt and repaired for the time in the early Ming Dynasty, which makes it look like what it is today. Recently, a group of scientists from China Agricultural University in Beijing made a study on the Juyongguan Great Wall, and they found an amazing fact.

Some parts of the wall were made of, but some were built of "rammed earth", which is a mixture of rocks and soil. Usually, rammed earth should be destroyed (破坏) by wind and rain over time., the fact is not like that. So scientists questioned rammed earth managed to survive for such a long time. And now they have found that parts of the wall have been protected something called biocrust (生物结皮). This is a thin layer of plant life, including moss (苔藓), lichen (地衣) and other things.

The scientists examined a 370-mile-long section of the wall and found that the parts covered in brocrust remained than other parts. The scientists took some samples (样本) of the biocrust back to their lab for testing. They found the natural material was actually much stronger the rain and wind than the rammed earth. This means that the wall has protected well with the biocrust over the years.

These findings could be important. biocrust may not look attractive, its natural ability to protect things could be a very useful tool. It offers the experts who manage ancient buildings a good way to protect them.
