Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist. She was born in Coyoacan, near Mexico City, in 1907. Frida grew up in a bright blue house with her parents and sisters. When she was six trouble walking fast. 

Frida spent a lot of her life in and out of hospitals. She had many health problems and she suffered a lot of pain. When she was eighteen, she was in a bus accident. She broke lots of bones and she spent many months recovering. It was at this time that Frida started to paint. Many of her paintings from this time are about her life to show her pain. 

In 1929, Frida married Diego Rivera, a Mexican artist who was famous for painting huge murals on walls. Both artists continued their work and became successful at home and abroad. After they got married, Frida started to wear traditional Mexican clothes and became interested in Mexican folk art. This influenced her paintings, which are very bright and colorful, with an original style that is very personal to Frida. However, they continued to show the pain and sadness which she experienced during her life. 

Frida Kahlo died on 13 July 1954, after suffering more and more health problems. Her husband died three years later. Today Frida and Diego's home, La Casa Azul, is a very popular museum. It displays paintings by Frida and Dicgo, as well as many objects from their life, to help tell the story of one of the most important artists in the twentieth century.

Fraser Island is in Queensland, Australia, about 200 kilometers north of Brisbane. It is about 120 kilometers long and 24kilometers wide. It is a very important island. It is completely made of sand. In fact, it is the largest sand island in the world. There is no airport on the island, but there is a long beach along the east coast. Planes arrive and leave from here. 

The sand makes unusual shapes.  There are hills made of sand called "sand-blows". Nothing grows on them. They move one or two meters a year from the northwest toward the southeast of the island, getting bigger and bigger. At other places on the island, such as Rainbow Gorge, the sandy rocks have different colors. Sometimes the rocks are so brown that they turn the sea brown, like coffee. 

Surprisingly, the sandy island has many different plants and animals. There are forests—eucalyptus woods, beautiful flowers and over a hundred lakes. There are all kinds of birds, like owls and curlews. There are many animals, too, such as crocodiles and wild dogs. 

About 500, 000 people visit the island every year to see the island's beauty and nature. People enjoy camping and hiking there.   ▲  They damage plants and frighten animals. Their sun cream makes the water dirty. So it is necessary to manage the visitors. For example, people may not use motor boats or go fishing in the lakes, and they need official papers to drive there. 

Alaska is disappearing slowly, but surely. It is believed that since the 1950s, as much as 15% of Alaska's land area has disappeared. How can a whole Alaska be disappearing? The problem is that Alaska's glaciers are melting. The state has more than 100, 000 glaciers. These glaciers account for about 75, 000 square kilometers, or 5%of the state's area. 

According to a recent report by the US Geological Survey, 99% of Alaska's glaciers are diminishing. This diminishing seems mainly because of the increase in global temperatures. Since the 1960s, the average year-round temperature has increased by almost 3℃. Besides, the average winter temperature has increased by over 6℃. Presently, an estimated 100 cubic kilometers of ice is disappearing from Alaska's glaciers every year. It may be even more in the near future. 

Another problem facing Alaska is its melting permafrost. Much of the land in Alaska used to be forever frozen or frozen for most of the year. Now, the melting permafrost is causing a number of problems for people living in Alaska. Roads and public poles are falling down. Also, the hard permafrost that prevented beaches from eroding during storms is now melting. People who live along Alaska's coasts are being forced to move away. For villages on small low islands, one terrible storm could wipe out the whole community. 

The melting permafrost and increasing temperatures are both influencing the forests of Alaska. As the permafrost under the forests melts, insects that normally do not turn up until the warmer seasons are appearing sooner. If something can't be done to change things, people will not see Alaska's forests at the end of the century. 

Some scientists believe that human activities have something to do with a global increase in weather temperature. Whatever the cause of rising temperatures may be, the fact remains that temperatures are warming, influencing Alaska for the worse. Terribly, this could be a preview of what will happen to the rest of the world in the next century.

Every day we consume food, but are our meals truly nourishing us? French gastronome Nicolas Kenedi raised this question.  During his recent visit to Beijing, Nicolas stated that good food nourishes, while bad food causes imbalances and diseases like obesity and diabetes. He urges people to put aside their phones and cook nutritious meals instead of relying on unhealthy deliveries. 

Nicolas, being a board member of the International Academy of Gastronomy, is dedicated to promoting healthy eating. This involves reducing sugar intake and picking minimally processed foods, which are shown in the10 proposals of the IAG on its 40th anniversary. 

To raise awareness of healthy eating, Nicolas is working on a comic book to be published next year. Food is not just about sustenance; it's linked to diplomacy. Nicolas emphasizes that it's a powerful diplomatic tool. 

He and his friend have launched a project to publish books revealing France's history through gastronomy and menus. Three volumes have been released, featuring unique menus and materials. Nicolas uses these archives to plan significant dining events. 

This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and France. Nicolas, acting as a culinary bridge, highlights the differences between Chinese and French cuisine. China has pioneered various cooking techniques, and French cuisine has its own characteristics. He also notes that China's meal structure is more helpful to digestion compared to the French one.
