• 1、Do you know that humans have been cleaning their teeth for over 7,000 years?

According1 the BBC, the Ancient Egyptians used a type of toothpaste(牙膏). But it is believed that the Egyptians used a finger2a toothbrush to clean their teeth. Chinese people may have3 the first toothbrush around 1,600 BC.

Your toothbrush, however, may have also become4. Because it is now possible to clean our teeth5 using our hands!

Two Canadians, Adel Elseri and Said Fayad, have invented6 called T2T or "tongue-to-teeth". Elseri says he came up with the idea7 he was driving home after a long day at work. His8 is a toothbrush that goes onto your tongue(舌). T2T has special edges (边缘) and toothpaste. So just9 your tongue over your teeth just like a toothbrush10! It will make your brush fresh too.

Elseri and Fayad made this hand-free toothbrush because they believed it was a11 way for someone to brush their teeth. But people can only use the T2T12.

Would you use the tongue-to-teeth? The Huffington Post in the US13 readers what they thought. Sixty-one percent said that they would use it while only thirty-nine percent said they14. Personally I think I'm going to stick to (坚持用) the15!

  • 2、Lanterns have been part of Chinese culture for centuries and play an important part in many celebrations. In ancient times, there were mainly three kinds of lanterns.

    Palace lantern

When making palace lanterns, fine wood was used. The palace lanterns were covered with silk or glass. Different kinds of pictures were drawn on the covers. These lanterns were not only used as lights but also as decorations in palaces.

    Gauze lantern

Less expensive bamboo and gauze(薄纱) were used to cover the lantern. Red gauze was used when making them. So red lanterns are always hung on important festivals such as Lantern Festival, Spring Festival and National Day in parks or along main streets. In some famous China-towns abroad, you can see red lanterns all the year round.

    Shadow picture lantern

It was usually used for amusement. There were two layers(层)of covers and pictures were drawn on the inside layer. When lit, the heat caused a paper wheel inside the lantern to turn around, so that moving pictures appeared on the outside cover.

Now more kinds of lanterns appear in festivals besides the traditional ones. More modern technology is used on making lanterns.

  • 3、When you want to ask your teacher a question during class, what do you do? Do you simply shout out your question as soon as it enters your mind? Or do you raise your hand and wait until the teacher calls your name?

If you politely raise your hand first, it's probably because your teacher has a rule that regulates (规定) what you are allowed to do when you have a question. Can you imagine what it would be like if everyone can simply talk whenever they want during class? Instead of a peaceful learning environment, a classroom without rules would be chaotic (混乱的)!

When you learn to drive, you'll realize how many rules you have to follow. The rules for driving share a common purpose (目的) with many rules you must follow in your daily life to keep you safe. As an ancient Chinese saying goes, "No rules, no standards." If you make a list of the rules you follow each day, you will quickly realize how many of them can keep you safe and make your life more enjoyable as a result.

Although sometimes you feel like a rule is unjust (不公平的), don't break it. Instead, decide what you can do to change the rule. Working within the rules to change the rules is what you need to do.

He was not among the best students at school, and from time to time he got into trouble with either his schoolmates or his teachers. But he was full of new ideas, which few people saw the value of. Things remained the same when he went up to college and he dropped out halfway.

Steve Jobs worked first as a video game designer at Atari. He worked there for only a few months and then he set out to tour India. He hoped that the trip would give him more ideas and give him a change in life for the better.

After he returned from India, he began to live on a farm in California. And then, in 1975, Steve Jobs set about making a new type of computer. Along with his friend Stephen Wozniak, he designed the Apple Computer in his bedroom and built it in his garage (车库). He chose the name "Apple" because it reminded him of a happy summer he once spent on an orchard (果园) in Oregon.

Prince Mathew is a ten-year-old boy who loves to invent(发明) things. He made a robot that can help people do farm work from far away.

When Prince was little, he liked different things from what other kids like. He didn't have many toys at home and didn't often play computer games. But he really enjoyed playing with building blocks. He loved making all kinds of things with them.

One day, Prince's mom said they didn't have enough room in their home for all the plants she wanted to grow. This made Prince think about how to solve the problem. Then he had an idea: "What if we could grow plants in a place away from our home?"

Prince spent about two to three months building his robot. Before he started drawing plans, he looked up a lot of information online. To make the robot work well, he went to the store to buy all the parts he needed. The robot could move around by itself. The last thing Prince did was to write computer programs to make the robot useful, not just a toy.

He named his robot GrRobot. It has a small video camera(视频摄像机 ) and a basket for growing plants. It can check if the ground is dry or wet and decide when to turn on the water. This will help farmers with their work, even with some hard jobs.

Besides this robot, Prince has also made a computer game and some phone apps. When people ask him how he can make all these things, he says, "I feel really happy when I see my inventions help people live better. I will keep trying to solve problems for more people. Maybe with my help, the world can become a better place."

Do you live with a good neighbor? What kind of neighbor is good? The answers are different from person to person. Here are my answers.

First, it is very important to respect each other. If our neighbors try to know more about our life, how will we feel? He or she may also talk with others about our life. Do you want to live with him or her any more? The answer is "No". We will feel very annoyed to have this kind of neighbor and move away quickly.

Next, a good neighbor is always ready to give us a hand when we need him or her. For example, if we are not at home, our good neighbors will watch our house for us.

Finally, a good neighbor should love the environment. He or she never puts rubbish here and there, because a good environment can make us comfortable and happy.

I think we all should learn to be good neighbors, and I also hope everyone will have good neighbors and live a happy life.

You may not realize it, but some tiny animals are really amazing. Ants are one of the best examples.

Ants are known for their hard work and strong connection with each other. They live in large groups called colonies(蚁巢), where they work together like humans. Each ant has its own job. Some of them store food for the colony, while others take care of the young. Though ants are small, they can carry things much heavier than themselves.
