How to prepare for the first day of school

It's normal to feel a little nervous on the first day of school. But don't worry! 

●Set two alarms 10 minutes apart so you're sure to wake up. Give yourself lots of time to get up and get yourself ready for your first day by setting an alarm for about an hour before you need to get to school. Set 2 alarms on your clock or phone so you don't sleep-through the first one and wake up late

● School is a great place to meet up with old friends and make new ones. Meet up with old friends that you already know and talk about what you did over the summer. Introduce yourself to new people that you meet in your classes or in the hallways to make new friends.

●Take a short break every hour or so to help you focus. After your break, you may feel energetic and focused enough to get back to work.

●If you're unclear about something or you're having difficulty, send your teacher a message by e-mail. Explain your problem clearly, including anything you've already tied to fix it.

For thousands of years, people around the world have told stories about the moon and how it came into being. Now, new research has shown that the moon is 40 million years older than scientists had believed. The latest information suggests that it formed at least 4. 46 billion years ago.

Many scientists believe that the moon formed after a celestial body(天体)called Theia hit the Earth. This caused magma (岩浆) to break out into space. The magma cooled into solid(固体的) rocks that started flying round the Earth in rings. Gradually, those rocks got together to form the moon.

Scientists worked out how old the moon was by studying rocks gathered from the surface in 1972--the last time humans set foot on the moon. Astronauts collected the samples using a tool, pulling it through the dust on the surface to collect tiny rocks.

The samples included zircon crystals, a type of material that formed after Theia hit the Earth and the magma cooled down. Scientists had studied the samples before but a new scanning technique helped them to study the crystals more carefully and find out the moon's age more correctly.

The moon is important. It influences things on the Earth, such as the tide (the rise and fall in the level of the sea), seasons and weather. Life on the Earth was only possible after the moon had formed, so scientists want to learn more about when it formed. A professor who worked on the study said, "It's a part of our natural system that we want to better understand."

Before astronauts from NASA landed on the moon, there were other ideas about how the moon formed. One suggested that the moon was flying through space and was caught by the Earth's gravity (重力).Another was that the Earth started turning so quickly that some pieces of it Broke off and went into orbit (轨道).

"The best mianshi lies in China and the best Chinese mianshi lies in Shanxi." Can you imagine that in North China's Shanxi Province, there are over 280 kinds of mianshi, or cooked wheaten(小麦的) food?

Shanxi people's love for mianshi is closely connected to the local natural conditions. The dry weather on mountains and plateaus(高原) makes it a good place for growing wheat. Therefore, as time passing by, Shanxi people not only developed an eating habit for mianshi, but also invented different ways of cooking wheaten food.

Among the many Shanxi mianshi, the sliced(刀削的)noodle is the most famous one. It is sliced with a special knife. When making it, the cook needs to use hands. The length and thickness of each sliced noodle are required to be the same. Experienced cooks can even turn the way of slicing noodles into an excellent show. They can slice 20o noodles in one minute, and make sure each noodle falls exactly into the soup pot 1. 5 meters away.

In Chinese food culture, people like to give special meanings to the food. For example, they would have a bowl of Changshoumian on their birthday, carrying good wishes for health and a long life. In many places, the tradition is to serve jiaozi to a person leaving home, and noodles to a person returning home, as both food have their own important meaning.

Well, seeing all these Chinese mianshi, do you feel enjoyable? Would you like to have a try?

In front of the Great Hall of the People stood a graceful woman in colorful traditional Hani ethnic(民族的)clothes, catching the eyes of reporters.

She is Yang Yuni. Ten years ago, she was only a village girl who loved ethnic culture. Now she's a famous dancer, a successful businesswoman, and a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC(中国人民政治协商会议).That's thanks to her endless efforts to protect and spread the traditional Hani culture.

Born and raised in a Hani village in Honghe County, Yunnan, the 28-year-old deeply loves her ethnic culture. Guided by her mother, the county's first folk dance teacher, and growing up with the inviting Hani terraces(梯 田), she came to love dance. After finishing high school, she chose to major in dance performance in college.

In 2015, Yang set up an arts center to spread Hani dance. Under her guidance and teaching, more and more local kids began to love Hani dance. "The Hani dance has beautiful moves and shows strong life. Why not bring it to a bigger stage?"' said Yang.

Later, Yang set up a street dance group with street dancers from other areas of Yunnan. They mixed street dance moves with their local dance style to show their love for their own culture. Her arts center later set up a recording studio to record the voices of its students and Hani folk singers.

After becoming a CPPCC National Committee member, Yang put forward a proposal(提案) that focuses on the cultural and tourism value of the Cultural Landscape of the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces.

People in ancient China worked long hours each day. To relax, they invented many games. Some of them had a long history.

Winnie Harlow is a famous model from Canada. What makes her special is (she) skin. She has  skin illness. It causes white patches（斑块） on her skin. 

As a young girl, it was very difficult for her Other children always looked  her secretly and talked behind her back. She felt very sad, lonely, and didn't like herself.

②JOMO, or the joy of missing out, is the idea that taking time for yourself can be a good thing. It doesn't mean you should always stay alone. Instead, it encourages you to enjoy your own company without always worrying about what others are doing. Spending time alone can help you understand yourself better. You might read a book, draw, listen to music, or just relax. These moments allow you to recharge and reduce stress. Studies show that people who sometimes choose to be alone often feel more creative and peaceful. 

③However, is JOMO good in any cases? While there are plenty of positive reasons for JOMO, it doesn't mean you should always stick to living a JOMO life. If there's something bad about JOMO, it's that JOMO may stop you from stepping out of your comfort zone (舒适区) and explore new things, "said Dr. Albers."And seeing what other people are doing can give you new ideas that you may not think of." As a result, balancing time for yourself and time with others is important. Good relationships need care and communication. If you feel uneasy about talking to friends, try sharing your feelings honestly. True friends will respect your emotions and support you. 

④So next time you see others hanging out without you, don't rush to feel sad. Ask yourself, "Do I really want to join, or do I need some quiet time?" Learning to enjoy being alone can make you stronger and happier. Remember: it's all about finding the right balance. 

I went into a small coffee shop with a friend, and we ordered our drinks. As we walked to our table, two people came in and went up to the counter （柜 台）. One of them said, "Five coffees, please. Two for us, and three suspended. They paid for their order, took the two coffees, and left. I asked my friend, "What are those' suspended coffees'?" My friend said, "Wait and see——you' ll find out soon. "

Later, a few more people came in: two girls each ordered one coffee, paid and left; next, three lawyers（律师）ordered seven coffees—three for themselves and four suspended. While I was still trying to find out what these suspended coffees were, I enjoyed the sunny weather and the nice view of the square in front of the coffee shop. 

Suddenly, a woman in old, worn clothes——who looked like a beggar——walked in and asked softly, "Do you have a suspended coffee?" The waiter looked up with a warm smile and replied, "Sure, there are some suspended coffees left. I' ll get you one right away. " With the coffee, the woman said, "Thank you so much. That's really kind of you. " I saw something bright across her face. The answer was simple. People bought more coffee than they needed and left some for those who couldn't afford a warm drink. 

The tradition of suspended coffees started in Italy, but now it has spread all over the world. In some places, you can order not just a suspended coffee, but also a suspended sandwich, or even a whole suspended meal. Let this story remind us: even the simplest kindness can leave a warm, long-lasting feeling in someone else's heart.

I'd like to introduce 

A poor man went into a thrift store（旧货店）. He was homeless and  sleep) in a tent locally every day. 

He looked around and found  air bed in the store. It would help make him feel more comfortable at night. He wanted to buy it, but didn't really have enough money. Seeing this, the store volunteers offered to buy it  him. Besides them, an elderly customer also saw his embarrassment. She ·. (kind) offered to pay for the air bed. When the store manager saw what was happening, she gave him a voucher（代金券）for food and a big bag of biscuits, and asked  he needed some clothes.

Last summer  , our school organized a volunteer activity at the local nursing home. I had never done anything like this before, so I wasn't sure whether I could do it. Afterthinking carefully, I finally decided to join. When I arrived at the nursing home, I was given the job to the elderly. They were very kind and told me stories about their lives. Sometimes, the work seemed too difficult, and I  wanted to give up. But the elderly people encouraged me, saying my help made their day brighter. During the activity, I  new meaningful volunteering could be. This project taught me  helping those in need, no matter how small the act seems. It's not always easy, but the lesson I learned will stay with me forever.

Having a positive attitude (积极的态度) is helpful. However, it is easier said than done. Here is some advice to help you keep positive in daily life. 

It's easier to keep a positive attitude all day if you start it right when you open your eyes. Instead of leaving the house in a hurry, wake up half an hour earlier and use the time to do something that brings you joy, relaxation and energy. 

When you have many things to do, you will feel nervous. To avoid this, you can write down small pieces of work you need to finish today. When you finish these pieces of work little by little, you will have a sense of achievement and happiness. 

 Use some positive words to describe yourself, your experiences and other people in your life. This way can help you see the world from a positive view. At the same time, it can encourage others to view you positively. 

Don't be too hard on yourself. If you feel tired, it's a good idea to rest for a while and take part in some relaxing activities, such as taking a walk and listening to soft music. By doing so, you can feel fresh and confident for the rest of the day.
