What Things Really Matter in Life?

As there are lots of things to care about in our life, what things really matter? I'd like to share my ideas with you here. 

Happiness

Enjoy your life to the fullest. Your mood will affect your body. If you are happy, you probably can stay healthy.  Try to find the things that make you smile and you'll be happy in your life. 

Education (教育) 

Following food, clothing and housing, education is the fourth basic (基本的) need for living. Through education, you can be a writer, a doctor, a teacher. . . You can read books, watch plays and take an interest in the world. 

Healthy Life

Without a healthy lifestyle, life can be hard. So try your best to make everyday life healthy. What are the things you should follow to stay healthy? Drinking enough water also plays an important part. What's more, doing exercise helps you live a healthy life. 

Family Time

So love your family and spend time with them. No other people can give you unconditional (无条件的) love like your family. They are those who care about you the most and always help you to do your best.

Huangping Clay Whistles: A Shining Pearl of Miao Folk Art

Have you ever heard of Huangping clay whistles? They are one of Guizhou's famous folk  (tradition) handicrafts. These clay whistles have a long history, carrying the wisdom and (create) of the Miao people. 

Huangping clay whistles are made of high-quality local yellow clay. The making process is all by hand. At (one), the clay is kneaded (揉捏) into different shapes. Then, it is fired with wood chips. After that, colors are added, and oil is coated on the surface to make  (they) shiny. The themes of Huangping clay whistles are very different. All kinds of animals  (find) on them, like flying birds, cute butterflies, lively insects and so on. The artists who make these clay whistles pay special attention to the heads of the animals because they try to show the spirit of the animals. For example, they might make the eyes of an animal much  (big) to show its liveliness. 

One special thing about Huangping clay whistles  (be) that each one has a blowing hole and a return air hole at the bottom. This allows them  (produce) clear and pleasant sounds, like little musical instruments. People,  (especial) children, love to play with them. 

Huangping clay whistles, with their unique artistic charm and deep cultural meaning, are not only an important part of the Miao  (people) cultural heritage but also a shining pearl in the treasure-house of Chinese folk arts. They are waiting for more people to discover their beauty and value. 

Science finds that feeding wild animals may bring (害处, 伤害) to them in the long run. Wolves with injured legs in the wild can usually do nothing but wait for (死). But this was not the story of one injured wolf in a nature park in Qinghai. It can get better thanks to tourists feeding it (沿着) the highway. 

However, people have different ideas about (是否) tourists should feed the wolf or not. It has (造成) a hot discussion. People who (支持) this act say that without feeding, the poor wolf would die. But those who are (反对) think that humans break the laws of nature. It has its (自己的) reasons. 

Research in Scientific Reports studied that human-provided food influenced the living of a group of dolphins. They said that asking for food from humans may increase the risk of injuries for dolphins and sometimes it may also make them  (依赖) on us for living. 

So, what should we do when coming across wild animals that seem to need our help? I think it's important for them to learn to live on their own. Of course, the best help is to report to the  (当地的) office for medical aid instead of feeding them. Your action makes a big difference. 

The lotus is a special plant that plays an important role in wetland ecosystem. The lotus has large and leaves that float on the water. Its  flowers come in pink, white and red. What makes the lotus truly special is its ability to nutrients (营养物质) from muddy water. This plant always appears in many Chinese . We should  these precious plants as they add beauty to nature. 

In 1903, the Wright brothers' historic flight opened the door to human aviation (航天). Since then, over the past century, human has been always reaching new heights in researching the skies. Today, a new chapter is unfolding in the skies—one led by drones that are changing how we live, work, and connect. 

As part of the "low-altitude economy" (低空经济), these flying machines have become a sign of technological progress, fitting smoothly into both city and country life. 

Take the Badaling Great Wall in Beijing as an example, where drones have turned a 50-minute hike for food and water into a three-minute convenience. Travelers now order on the phone, and electric drones deliver (递送) snacks and drinks, even collecting garbage on their return trips. Besides, in cities like Shenzhen, known as the "City of Drones, " technology goes further. In 2024, electric "air cars" that can take off and land upright started flying there. They don't need long runways, showing how technology can become part of daily life. 

Drones are also changing farming. In Guangxi, over 250, 000 drones help protect plants. They watch over crops, spray pesticides (杀虫剂), and find pests, working quickly across large fields. This technology has cut labor costs by 40% compared to traditional methods, allowing farmers to manage more land with less effort. During harvest seasons, drones even help watch over fruit growth, guiding farmers to pick at the best time for better quality and higher yields (产量). 

With such new technology, there are things to think about. As more drones fly, questions about safety, airspace rules, and personal information might come up. How can we make sure these machines fly safely with other planes? How do we balance space of use with protecting people's space? Even if high-tech GPS helps drones fly in a right way, rules must be developed to help use them without risks. 

From delivering snacks on the Great Wall to helping farms and cities, Chinese drones have gone from a new thing to a need. They show how creation can shorten the gap—between old and new, city and country. As we step into this low-altitude revolution (变革), one thing is clear: The tomorrow is not just about flying higher, but about flying smarter. 

The Moon travels around the Earth. Most nights, the Moon is the brightest thing in the sky. This is because it reflects (反射) light from the Sun. It's hot during the day on the Moon. When the Sun is overhead, the temperature is over 127℃. At night, the temperature drops. The temperature at night may be -163℃. A sunny day on the Moon can kill you. But then, so can the night.

Finally, let's talk about playing sports and exercising. The survey found that 13% of people exercise every day, which is great because it helps them feel happy and energetic. These    people are less likely to be sick and have a better mood. On the other hand, 2% of the people said they only exercise once a month or not at all. This is worrying because not exercising enough can lead to being overweight, having weak muscles, and getting sick more often. 

In a word, while some people in the UK take good care of themselves by eating healthily, sleeping well, and exercising regularly, many others do not follow these important habits. It is really important for everyone to try to live a healthier life by making small changes. Remember, even tiny changes can help us stay healthy and happy. 

Recently, there was a piece of exciting news from the world of "Peppa Pig"! Mummy Pig is going to have the 1 baby. This means Peppa and George will soon have either a new 2 or a sister. And their family of four is about to 3 a family of five. The arrival of a new baby in the Pig family will bring more learning opportunities for 4 .

How to be safe at school

Are you wondering if your friend is a good friend? Sometimes, you might feel unsure. If you're not sure, it means you need to think about your friendship. You should listen to your feelings and decide if you can trust this person. So, is this friend true to you or not?

Can you be yourself or do you have to act differently? A good friend lets you be yourself and doesn't judge (评判) you for being a little strange or saying silly things. He or she accepts you just the way you are and doesn't make you worry about what you say. When you can be yourself, you know you're with a good friend. 

Hard times can show you who your true friend is. If someone leaves when things get hard, the person isn't really a friend. A true friend stays with you, supports you, and loves you no matter what. He or she shares in your happy times and your sad times and is always there for you. 

This can help you see if he or she is a good person. If he or she says bad things about you or your other friends, that's not a good sign. A good friend is kind and doesn't speak ill of others behind. 

If he or she doesn't care about your feelings and just wants you to do what he or she says, the person might be using you. This is not a good friend. A good friend cares about you and wants you to be happy.

Today, an increasing number of digital materials are available to students. They come at much lower prices than printed materials. However, when students are asked which materials they prefer, surprisingly, most of them like printed ones better. 

A group of scientists did a study. They found that when students read a text longer than one page, their understanding of its main idea was equally (同样地) good whether it was from printed materials or digital materials. However, when they were tested on details (细节), they performed better when they learned from printed materials. 

Scientists believe that understanding details in a long text requires more attention than simply understanding its main idea. Distractions (分心的事物) influence the understanding of details when students learn from digital materials. The act of moving texts up and down on a computer draws students' attention. Lots of hyperlinks draw their attention, too. Reading the articles the hyperlinks offer makes it hard for students to remember what they have read. 

So, which is better, digital materials or printed materials? Actually, they both have their own merits. Digital materials cost less, are easier to get, and allow students who need to read a lot to read faster. As for printed materials, it's easier for students to mark important points and to find them again when they need to review them. Printed books can be kept for a long time. Many e-books are only available for one year or so. 

We know that digital materials are here to stay and their use is growing. Over time, students' preferences may change, especially if some of the things students dislike about digital materials are avoided. 

Wan Shiyu, a 20-year-old student at Wuhan University of Technology (WUT) in Hubei Province, loves to help others. She thinks helping others is important for young people to make society better and care for each other. 

In December, Wan went to a big event in Shantou, Guangdong. Many students from all over China were there to share their ideas about volunteering. Wan's idea was one of the best 10 out of 601 ideas. 

Her idea is called "Xingxinxiangyin" and it helps kids with autism (自闭症). It's different from other services because it helps kids for their whole life and does things that each child needs. The project does four things: It connects families with experts, organizes fun family activities, teaches people about autism, and has a website for parents to talk to each other. 

Wan's teacher, Yu Yanping, says the best part is that the team works hard with both parents and experts. Parents are happy to see young people making society better and they want to help their kids more. 

Wan and her team made a special survey to see how well kids with autism can do things by themselves. They found out some kids don't like loud noises, so they make sure activities like basketball are quiet and nice for them. 

Another student, Zhu Yufeng, won a prize for his project "Yaolan". It helps poor people in a village and makes their traditional embroidery (刺绣) more popular. Zhu's project has made the village's embroidery business much better and has made the Han and Yao people become friends. 

Dong Zexin, another student, won a prize for his project "Xingyaoxiangcun". It helps college students do volunteer work in villages near Beijing. Dong says the competition showed him that people of all ages can help make the world a better place. 

The summer holidays ended, and it was the first day of the new school year. When Mike saw his friend Jack in the hallway, he smiled and walked quickly. Before he could catch up, however, Lou and Patrick appeared and fell into step with Jack. The two boys, who were the most popular guys in their school, were Jack's football teammates. Mike stopped walking and watched Jack, Lou, and Patrick laughing and walking away.
