Can you make a big world with only a pen, a small knife and a piece of leaf? Du Wanli is one of the (popular) leaf carvers（雕刻师）in Shandong Province. She brings life to fallen leaves by turning (they) into different shapes.

Can plants talk? Study has found that they do communicate with each other. 

It has been known for some time that plants use chemicals（化学物质）to communicate with each other. This happens when a plant gets attacked（攻击）by insects（昆虫）. The plant gives out chemicals from the leaves that are being eaten. This is like a warning（警告）, or a call for help:" I'm being attacked!" When another plant gets the chemicals, it starts to give out its own, different chemicals. Some of these chemicals drive insects away and others attract（吸引）the wasps（黄蜂）! The wasps kill the insects that are eating the plants. Scientists hope to learn more about this plant warning system（系统）, so that we can use it to grow more plants. 

More surprisingly, plants also use sound to communicate. People can't hear these sounds, but plants are making them. Some plants make noises with their roots（根）. Corn and chili（辣椒）plants do this. Some trees make noises when there is not enough water. 

Most surprisingly of all, plants have an amazing system of communication that can link nearly every plant in a forest. Scientists call this system" the wood wide web". The wood wide web is linked（连接）underground by fungi（霉菌）. It links the roots of different plants to each other. It is in some ways similar to the Internet we use. Using the wood wide web, plants can share information and even food with each other. However, it may lead to bad effects. Plants may use it to steal food from each other, or give out chemicals to attack other plants. Perhaps one day scientists will learn how to create a" firewall" to help keep away from these attacks within the wood wide web. 

Scientists are learning more every day about the secret ways in which plants talk to each other. Maybe one day we will know enough about plant communication to be able to" talk" with them ourselves. 

Want to sleep under the sea? Planet Ocean has plans for an exciting underwater hotel, and they hope to build them over the world. 

The sun will shine down and provide light, because the hotel won't be very deep under the water. The hotel won't be large, with only 12 guest rooms and a restaurant. As you might expect, Planet Ocean wants to encourage people to eat less fish, so guests won't find any on the menu. What's more surprising is that the environment will be very quiet, so guests will have to imagine the sound of the ocean around them. They will almost get the feeling that they are swimming in the ocean. 

The hotel's design（设计）, with clear glass walls, means guests will be able to see the sea and all the sea animals that live there around, above and below them in their rooms. So guests will get great close-up views of the fish and other sea animals. 

The hotel won't be cheap to build and it won't be cheap to stay in. But the designers are especially satisfied with the fact that it will be environmentally friendly. It will use electricity（电），of course, but it will produce（产生）its own, and won't hurt ocean life at all. 

Planet Ocean's future designs include a moving hotel. It perhaps sounds like this will work in the same way as a big ship, but this is not true. In fact, instead of moving between countries, it will stay inside the area of a single country's waters. 

Roy Shrikanth is fourteen years old. He lives in India and he's very famous there. Because he is a movie director! His new movie is in cinemas in India this year. It is called Care of Footpath. 

Care of Footpath is very different from other Bollywood movies. It is not a comedy or a musical. It is the story of a young street child in Bangalore. Street children in India are very poor. They live on the streets of big cities. Their lives are very hard. They don't go to school and it is difficult for them to change their lives. 

Care of Footpath is very sad in the beginning but it has a happy ending. The main character in the movie is called Slummu. Slummu has a dream. He wants to go to school and study, but how? At the end of the movie, Slummu's dream comes true!
