Reasons to Learn English

Learning English can be fun. For many students, it isn't much fun. However, we think that's just a problem of how you learn English. Take time to have fun learning English by listening to music, watching a movie in English. There's no excuse not to enjoy yourself, even if you have to learn grammar. 

Learning English will help you understand the world through a different language. Understanding the world through a different language will also help you view the world from a different perspective(视角). 

Being able to communicate in English can help you reach out and discover new information. It can help you help the other people in your family who don't speak English. Just imagine yourself on a trip and you are responsible for communicating with others in English. Your family will be very proud. 

There are twelve tenses in English, and this is not the case in many other languages. By learning English you will have a strong sense of when something happens because of the English language's use of time expressions. 

How do you learn English?

At many events around the world, fireworks shows are being replaced with large numbers of drones (无人机) that create wonderful scenes in the night sky. 

Why are drone shows becoming popular? Some think it's a passing fad. But supporters say that they will take the place of fireworks for sure, because fireworks are bad for people, animals and the environment and that it's time for a change. 

Bill Bateman, a professor of life sciences, notes the "terrible" influence of fireworks—It may scare birds from nests, trouble other animals with their sudden light and noise, and even influence animal breeding (繁殖). 

"The sounds and flashes of light lead to the startle response (惊恐反应) in animals, causing their pain and even deaths. Young animals, for example, have been recorded jumping from their nest because of the loud noises, even if they cannot fly. "Bateman explains. 

There are also plenty of other health reasons to avoid fireworks. The U. S. recorded 9, 700 injuries and eight deaths from fireworks in 2023 alone—most because of the wrong use. And also, around 18% of all fireworks on the market in 2023 didn't meet safety standards, putting even experienced players at risk. 

The reasons to cancel fireworks shows seem clear, but are drone shows the solution? These shows still create light pollution. Drones can also collide (相撞) with wildlife in the air. Some research shows that animals don't like drones in their homes. 

But we still don't know much about how drones will influence the environment and animals. For now, drone shows seem to be better for the environment. But I think, since drones can be used again and again, they are a better choice than traditional fireworks. 

"Thank you for your email. I have left to work for my dream of knitting (钩编) sweaters for penguins in Antarctica and no longer work for the School. I will be out of office . . . until my penguin friends are happy. " This is part of an email received by a Chinese student studying in the UK from her teacher. The email has recently gone popular online. 

You may find this email surprising, but knitting sweaters for penguins is a real act of kindness. The idea was started by an organization in Australia. 

The project began because a serious oil spill（油气泄露） near Phillip Island in the late 1990s. During that time, the number and health of baby penguins dropped rapidly. When little penguins became covered in oil, they tried to clean their body with their beaks (喙), but eating the oil could be fatal. The oil also hurt their feathers(羽毛）, making it difficult for them to swim or hunt for food. 

To solve this problem, the organization asked knitters around the world to make sweaters for affected（受感染的）penguins. These sweaters could keep the penguins warm during the cleaning process and stop them from eating the oil. 

The method has been helpful. In 2001, another oil spill happened near Phillip Island. Thanks to the sweaters, 96 percent of the affected penguins were successfully saved. 

However, some people have questioned the idea of animals wearing human-made clothing. Bird protection groups worry that these sweaters might put more stress on the penguins' bodies. 

The organization explained that the sweaters are only a short-term solution and will not be used when the penguins get well. To make sure the penguins are protected and wearing proper clothes, the organization has provided strict instructions for knitters. For example, the total length of the finished sweater should be no more than 18 cm, the width across the body no more than 12 cm and the width of the bottom opening no more than 11 cm. 

A booking to my hotel came in a few weeks ago, with a note saying that a girl would be travelling with her deaf father, and she wanted to make his trip as comfortable as possible. 

When I know I would be the one to help them check in, I started to prepare for their arrival. And I decided to learn some very basic sign language. 

I greeted the guest in my usual fashion. When I heard the name, I soon realized who was standing in front of me. 

 I had been learning for two weeks to express: "Welcome to Ireland. My sign language is terrible, but please, if you need anything during your stay, just let me know and we will help you. "

I smiled at the father and daughter in front of me. Turning to the father, I greeted him in sign Language and began the bit I had learned for him. His daughter broke down crying and told me I was sweet. But the father just smiled and was so happy. Honestly, seeing his reaction（反应） was enough for me. It was worth the last few weeks of learning sign language. 

Sadly, I wasn't working the day they checked out（退房）, but they left a gift for me, a small box with some chocolates. Inside was a note saying:" Thank you very much for what you did. My father has been in amazing spirits from the time you checked us in and suggested we get you a gift before we left. You have no idea how much this meant to my father and me, and we can't thank you enough. You've made his trip very special with one simple sign. "

I cried for as long as five minutes when I came into work the next day and found this gift.

People often talk about healthy children.  If you are healthy, your body works well, and you can do all the things you want. Parents only ask you to have healthy meals. 

Eat different kinds of food, especially fruit and vegetables. You may have your favourite food, but you'd better eat different kinds of food. If you do so, you can meet more of your body needs. Taste new foods and old ones you haven't tried for a while. Some food, such as fruit and vegetables, is better. 

 When you are really thirsty, water is the No. 1 choice. You also need calcium(钙) to grow strong bones, and milk is the best choice. 

What else can we do to become healthy children? (不超过10词） 

Children sometimes get ill and have to go to hospital. Some of  (they)  have to stay there for a few days. It's (real) not good for them to think about their illness (疾病) all day long. They need some other things to think about, so people ask  (friend) animals to help. In some places, people often take animals  (visit) children in hospital. They may bring a little dog or a cute monkey the children. Most children are excited to see them. , some children can't get close to the animals, because the animals may make their illness get even worse (更糟糕).  can we do to help these children? The hospitals get  good idea. They work with zoos to make some films about how (love) animals. A man called Denny gives $7. 4 million to make a TV network (电视网) to show them. It's still used in many hospital in the US today. Children in hospital can watch them and learn about  (animal) living habits. 

To be a better( / 'pɜ:sn / ), we should always f the rules and be (有礼貌）to everyone. Treating others with kindness and r makes the world a happier place. We can't do anything  (危险), either. When we need help, it's smart to ask for (建议) from others. Remember to have a good  (精神，情绪) and try our best to do everything well.

How much exercise do children need to keep in good health? Every parent wants to know the answer. In the US, many people think that children should get more than an hour of exercise each day. It is the same in the UK. 

A study shows that children should exercise for their muscles and bones more than three times a week. Children can do activities like climbing and playing on monkey bars–this kind of exercise is good for their muscles. Jumping and running are good for their bones. Children should also do aerobic (有氧的) exercise every day. They can walk fast or go running. However, many children don't like doing exercise of playing sports outside. Today, many children like playing computer games or watching TV at home every day. What can parents do to help the children do sports outside?

Dr. Stephanie Walsh says she often sees parents taking long walks with their children as a kind of exercise, but that might not be the best way. 

"Although walking is a great activity, it's really boring for children. So, if you're going to ask your children to go for a walk, think of some fun things to do along the way, " she says.

⑥As you can see, birds have many ways against bad weather. Although danger is always around them, they will probably be just fine.
