The 2024 Summer Olympics ended on August 11with a closing celebration in Paris. More than 10, 000 players took part in the celebration and 70, 000 spectators in the stadium and millions more at home

On May 3, Yichang Police Station made history by firstly using a "robot police dog" in Hubei. Working with real police dogs, the robot police dog was sent to patrol(巡逻) and do something else.

On Wednesday, Ningyang, his hometown, awarded him the title (称号) of"Model of the New Era inNingyang". Luan's heroic act deeply touched the country. Many people from all over the capital city and other areas went to the restaurant to pay respects to the hero and support the restaurant. 

Baobab (猴面包树) trees grow in mainland Africa, Madagascar and northwest Australia. Many scientistssay that the baobab began life in Africa before (appear) elsewhere. Now, a study shows that there were baobabs in Madagascar, 21 million  (year) ago. 

Scientists studied the genomes(基因组) of each of the eight baobab species. A genome  (be)a complete group of DNA in a living thing. *DNA is a chemical that carries the orders for making and maintaining(维持)  living thing.

August 8, the San Diego Zoo in California held a welcome party for the first pandas to come here in more than 20 years. It was the first 1 for Yun Chuan, a 5-year-old male (雄性), and Xin Bao, a 4-year-old female. China has loaned(借出) the two pandas to the zoo as part of a project to 2 the species. Pandas are thought to be in danger.

People stopped the building of a water projectin June, 2024. They did so to protect a groupof swallows(燕子). These swallows live on the earthen cliff (土质悬崖) along the Yongding River, and they would like to live somewhere quiet. Bird lovers were happy with the decision. 

The cliff faces west. It is over 30 meters long and nearly 20 meters high. It looks bright under the sunlight, making a beautiful picture. * From around 100 meters away, people can see about 200 caves in the cliff, each about the size of an apple, with brown swallows flying in and out. 

"I visited this group of swallows some weeks ago. In recent years, around late April to early May, they come here to build their homes, and then fly away by early July, " said Zhao Yue, an official. "The water project started in June, but it already stopped its activities last week. "

Having caring talks with friends in trouble can make a big difference in how they feel, a study shows. But asking if someone is OK isn't always easy. This was something Woody and Will experienced (经历) when they were friends at school. 

"It took us years to have a real talk about what was going on for Will, " said Woody. "I knew he wasn't OK. I just didn't know how to ask, and I didn't want to make it worse. We now hope to help others to start useful talks. "

Woody's experience is not special. Three out of five young people who didn't ask thought it wasn't their place to do so; half were afraid they would make things worse if they did. But Woody said he was glad he finally spoke up.

Zheng Haohao, from Huizhou, is eleven years old. She joined in the 2024 Olympics in Paris as the youngest player in China's skateboarding(滑板运动)  (队). 

Zheng started to practice skateboarding at the  (年龄) of seven. "Somebody told me skateboarding was fun and I bought one. It was really  (有趣的). When I practiced skateboarding, I felt relaxed and  (兴奋的; 激动的), " she said. 

"When I was very small, I started to practice painting and dancing, but these are too (安静的). I felt kind of bored. It is really exciting when the skateboard  (飞) up. "

Zheng fell many times when practicing skateboarding, hurting(使受伤) her  (牙齿) and legs, said Wang Zhe, Zheng's mother. Wang wanted her  (女儿) to stop practicing skateboarding but the girl chose to persist. 

"One cannot keep doing anything if he doesn't (显示) great interest, " Wang said. "She practices skateboarding after school almost every day. She may really  (有) the sport ing talent(天赋), but she is surely hard-working. "

As the music begins, a Sichuan opera performer goes onto the stage. She walks, dances and quickly changes face masks(面具). No one notices 1 unusual until the last mask is removed (移动), but later, the audience (观众) believe that this performer is kind of 2 .

In middle school, Liu was one of the best students atEnglish. However, after finishing middle school, he had to drop out of school because his family had five children. He then became a cowboy, taking his family's cows to eat grass on the mountain every day while studying English in a nearby cave(山洞). 

He also asked English speakers for help in Yangshuo. He would show travelers the dictionary and ask, "Can you help me with this word?" In this way, he learned to speakEnglish fast and helping foreign visitors became his job. 

Lyu Jingwen is nine years old. She can't Lwalk because of a disease. She got to thetop of Huangshan Mountain on Monday with the help of volunteers. As part of a charity (慈善)activity to celebrate Children's Day, Jingwen and more than 30 other children with rare diseases from across the country were carried up the mountain. 

"* After learning about the mountain through a textbook in school, I dreamed of visiting it, but I thoughtI had no chance (机会) to make it to the top, " she said. Jingwen lives in Guangdong. She had a bad disease when she was two years old, and   ▲   . 

More than 150 volunteers from nine teams joined in the activity. They tried their best to help the children. Though there are cable cars (缆车), which could help the volunteers, they had to carry the children in their wheelchairs(轮椅) for most of the trip. 

Cheng Jian who has paraplegia (截瘫) is one of the organizers of the charity activity. He organized the charity group in 2006. 

"After knowing about the children with rare diseases years ago, I started to learn about their suffering (痛苦)and that of their families, " Cheng said. Then he started to help them in 2021.
