On January 28, 2025, a special show named YangBOT surprised people on the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China's most popular TV program. Directed by the famous filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the show mixed traditional Chinese Yangko dance with modern robot technology. In the performance, humanoid robots (robots like humans) dressed in colorful clothes danced Yangko. Yangko is a happy folk dance from northern China and we often see it during festivals. These robots turn handkerchiefs (手帕) around quickly and made creative group patterns. They were made by a Chinese robotics company named Unitree.

This wasn't Unitree's first success. In 2021, their robot cows called "Ben Ben" danced for singer Andy Lou. The robots learned dance moves with the help of AI. They used laser navigation (激光导航) to move safely on the stage. Their strong joints (关节), just like knees with 360N·m power, helped them keep balance during fast steps.

The robots were loved by millions of people. On social media, topics like "Robots Yangko" became popular quickly. Young people thought it was "cool". Older audiences liked its humor and the happy festival feeling. The YangBOT program shows both China's technology progress and cultural pride well.

Just like a fan said, "It's like watching the future and the past dance together!"

Fish babies in space? In a space study on zebrafish (斑马鱼), Chinese scientists have set a new record. They successfully got four zebrafish to live and grow in a closed water world.

The zebrafish went to China's space station on the Shenzhou XVIII spaceship on April 25, 2024. Since then, they have been living in a closed fish tank with some plants. The fish grew up and had babies in 43 days.

In their special closed environment, the plants made air for the fish and the fish's waste gave the plants food. The scientists gave the fish food through a special needle. Such a closed-loop ecosystem (封闭生态系统) is important for future studies in space. It means that plants and animals can live in space more simply and easily.

The scientists also found that the zebrafish acted differently than they did on Earth. For example, they often swam on their back. The low gravity in space is a big reason. On Earth, gravity pulls everything to Earth's center, and animals can find their way easily. Gravity also makes their bodies work harder and become stronger, said The Conversation.

Humans and zebrafish share 70 percent of the same genes (基因). So the new finding will help scientists better understand human health.

Earlier this year, Chen Jing joined the dragon dance team at her school. Dragon dance is a traditional Chinese activity. During the1 , the dancers hold a long dragon which is made of cloth. They move it around to music.
