Math or Magic?

This math trick will amaze your friends. Your friends any number they want, and then they all do the same math problem. which number they pick, the final result will always be 3.

1. Think of a number than zero (e.g. 5).

2. Multiply their number by itself (5×5 = 25).

3. Add their to their original number (25 + 5 = 30).

4. Divide their new total by their original number (30÷5 = 6).

5. Add 17 (6+17 = 23).

6. Subtract their original number from this last total (23-5 = 18).

7. Divide their result by six (18÷6 = 3).

The final result is always 3. Try it on your friends. They are sure to be!

So why is it so hard to say no to short videos? Algorithmic recommendation (算法推荐) must be the answer, because it is so smart that it can uncover our preferences—finding out what we are interested in and meeting our needs accordingly. The more we like something, the more it will feed us similar content, continually like forever.

Now, you see why it's so hard to refuse short videos. It's time to figure out why they make you stupid.

One reason is that they narrow your field of perception (认知范围)! When looking through many similar videos, you might think you're becoming more knowledgeable. Sadly, the truth is you are actually in an "information cocoon" (信息茧房), because you always stick to a few certain subjects that interest you. Believe it or not, if you unlock your mother's phone, you may find that you two are living in totally different worlds!

Another, that you may lose patience for reading, thinking, etc. Since you've already got used to this low-cost-and-high-return form of entertainment (娱乐), you will never be patient with anything that requires time and effort.

What is the third one? You will get very emotional. Imagine this: you see a video that tells a negative story about someone and labels him as bad, you might feel the same way and even post your comment immediately. However, a few days later, you find the truth is just the opposite, and you feel regretful and even hate yourself.

See, you become stupid bit by bit without realizing it. Maybe it's time to wake up—you need a better way to entertain yourself!

"Teach me about the Grand Canal." Before he knew it, this simple instruction took the boy on a journey along the canal. He started in Hangzhou and was now slowly traveling up north toward Yangzhou.

He was taking in the fascinating views on the banks of the canal when Sight Pro suddenly said, "     ★     "

"Are you giving me a quiz? Hmm, bring it on."

A question appeared before his eyes: "What is the total length of the Grand Canal? Is it more than 1,000 kilometers or 2,000 kilometers?"

"I'll go for 1,000 kilometers." It took Brad two seconds to decide.

"Wrong answer. The Grand Canal is a system of more than 2,000 kilometers of man-made waterways. It's the longest in the world."

Then came the next question: "When did the building of the canal begin?"

"Was it in the 7th century?" Brad responded hesitantly.

"Wrong answer. It started in the 5th century B.C. E. (公元前). After that, different sections were built at different times. In the 7th century, Emperor Yang of Sui expanded (扩大) the canal to its present scale (规模) by linking the sections."

"How amazing!" Brad continued his journey for a while.

Then came the third question: "Why was the Grand Canal built?"

"To make it easier for people to travel around the country."

"Wrong answer. Its primary function was to transport food from the rich lands in the south to the capital city in the north. It was also used to transport goods."

In the end, Brad scored zero on all the questions, but he was pleased that he had learned a lot.

"A big change happened to the Grand Canal during the Yuan Dynasty because the capital was moved to Beijing. Emperors needed new routes," he wrote in response to one question. "This year is its tenth anniversary as a World Heritage Site (世界文化遗产)," he read out another answer as he wrote it down.

"Mega job, Brad!" Sight Pro's sweet voice was heard again.

Matt Karsten, a travel blogger, and his wife Anna, on a tour boat, were visiting icebergs in the Antarctic sea while a group of orcas (虎鲸) played happily in the water. Not far away, a baby penguin was flapping its wings on a block of ice when it suddenly1 into the sea.

After capturing the scene, the orcas quickly turned to chase the little penguin. The poor little thing was so2, trying to shake them off. The killer whales approached in a fan shape, making it difficult for the little penguin to3. Its eyes were full of fear, yet it4 to give up.

The cold wind5 across the sea surface like a knife. The poor penguin, regarding the boat as its only hope for survival,6 towards it desperately (不顾一切地). The couple saw the poor thing and acted fast to pull the boat7. On its first8, it hit hard against the side of the boat and was bounced (弹) back into the sea. But it still9 all the courage for the next jump. The couple also went out of their way to get even closer, ensuring it was within the penguin's10 when it tried again. Bravo! The baby penguin made it!

Aboard the boat, the11 wife hugged her husband. The penguin appeared greatly12 on the boat. However, it seemed the whales wouldn't let go. They13 chased the boat for a while but finally swam away.

The penguin was brought to safety, but it didn't leave at once,14 its "new friends" as if saying goodbye. The little thing knew that this icy ocean was both its home and the battlefield where it had to15. But at this moment, it was no longer alone.

Photography(摄影) can be overwhelming(无法抗拒的) for beginners and also for more skilled photographers. From where I stand, you may have one chance to take pictures of a specific(具体的) subject. But if you don't understand your camera, this chance can pass in front of you and I don't suppose you might get the picture that you were expecting. 

Sometimes, photographers are intimidated(恐吓) by the subject, by other photographers, by negative thoughts that lead them to think that they might not be good enough, and some are afraid of making mistakes. Once I heard a very rich man say, "I am excited that today I am going to make so many mistakes, and I will learn from them. " People that excel in their fields are those who keep practising, get trained and learn from mistakes. Even if they fall, they have the courage to stand up again and continue moving forward. This is right not only to photography, but to life itself. 

Photography is my interest, and I learned that when you are a photographer, you see the world in a different way:I imagine everything I see in the frame(相框). And I like helping other people and teaching what I know, My knowledge of photography has been developing through the years, and I can tell you through experience that the best way to go from not too bad pictures to great pictures is to practise as much as possible.
