(Two students, Jane and Mike, are talking about their hobbies.)

Jane: Hi, Mike.

Mike: My hobby is collecting model planes.

Jane: Really?

Mike: I have collected model planes for three years.

Jane:

Mike: I have about fifty-six model planes.

Jane: Are they expensive?

Mike: But I love them.

Jane:

Mike: At the store. I get a part-time job in a restaurant and make some money.

Jane: Then you buy the model planes with the money, yes?

Nowadays many people want to have a more interesting experience when arriving in a new city or country. Here are some better ways to travel, both for you and for the environment.

Way 1 Get out of the car and walk. It's slower but it's the greenest way to travel. It's also the best way to see a city but remember to wear comfortable shoes. You can walk slowly, enjoy fresh air and beautiful scenery (景色) along the way.

Way 2 Riding a bicycle is also a good choice. Many hotels now have free bikes. You don't need to spend money on it. It is convenient for people to travel around the city. Some hotels even have free electric (电动的) bikes. They make it easier to go up hills and on longer trips. Some cities also have motorbikes, and you can pick up one easily. It's not free but very cheap.

Way 3 If you have to take transportation in a city, try to take public (公共的) transportation. Most cities now show lots of information and very clear maps about the public transport on the city's website. So find them on the city's website when you arrive in a city.

Way 4 If possible, take trains or ships to travel from city to city. They are usually greener than cars and planes.

Sanders decided to sell his recipe. He left Kentucky and traveled to different places of America. He told restaurant owners that he had a great chicken recipe. He would give the recipe to them for free, and they just needed to pay a little money for every chicken they sold. Sounds good, right?

Unluckily, most of the restaurant owners didn't think so. They all rejected him. Sanders heard NO over 1,000 times. But he didn't give up. He believed his chicken recipe was something special. He got rejected 1,009 times before he heard the first YES.

With that one success, Sanders brought a new way of eating chicken to Americans. Then he started Kentucky Fried Chicken, or KFC. Now KFC is world famous.

It's amazing how the man started at the age of 65. What's the key to his success? Maybe it's "believe, dream, try and never give up".

If everyone drives the car in the future, there will be less air pollution (污染). There will be more space for all the cars in the cities, and there will also be more space for people to walk in the streets.

The little cars of the future will cost less money to buy and to drive. These little cars can go only 65 kilometres an hour, so driving will be safer. The cars of the future will be fine for going around the city, but they will not be useful for a long trip.

This kind of cars can save lots of gas (天然气). They will go 450 kilometers and then they have to stop for more gas.

Three years ago, my husband and I started the "Farm Camp" program, We wanted city kids (experience) what we had enjoyed and learned on our family farm. We host one or two families a time. Most of them stay for a week. Every morning, I take the kids through a two-hour hands-on farm class.

There is a lot to learn. For example, I don't expect a child to know how long it (take) for a chick to hatch (孵化). But I'm often surprised when they don't know to pull a cart around a corner or climb over a gate.

Don't get me wrong. I love educating kids and then cheering (they) on when they manage to do these simple tasks (independent). It's just that, two generations ago, these skills were common knowledge.
