A Special Letter

Dear World, 

My son starts school today. 

It's going to be strange and new to him for a while, and I wish you would treat him gently(温柔地). 

You see, up to now, he's been the king of the backyard. 

I have always been around to repair his wounds, and to make him calm. 

But now, things are going to be different.

Teach him to have confidence in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him they are wrong. 

Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob(极端的暴徒) and to stand and fight if he thinks he's right. 

Teach him gently, World, but don't coddle(溺爱) him, because only the test of fire makes fine steel. This is a big order, World, but see what you can do. 

He's such a nice little fellow.

Today, our school held a photo competition among Grade 9 students. 

While travelling to some cities in the world, you will see statues(雕像)of different characters standing in the streets. Do you believe that some are actually real people working   street artists? They often cover themselves  (complete) with paint. They have to stand still and keep eyes open for several  (hour). Street artists need to be strong-minded and patient. It is not   easy job, but there's plenty of fun for them. 

Yorge is one of  (famous) street artists in Brazil. He stands out thanks to his partner, a cute dog  (name) Jaspe.   Yorge goes to work, Jaspe rests on his arm and keeps still as long as she can. Most people are surprised at the man   works together with a dog. However, the pair once got into trouble. Some animal lovers thought that Yorge forced his dog  (give) a performance in the street. In fact, Yorge never trained Jaspe at all. 

The performance of living statues  (become) a street art already. Now it is really popular in many large cities around the world. 

I'm a Grade 9 student who is going to graduate from middle school. Iwas kind of busy  (最近). Besides studying hard, I also had to prepare for many other things.

What's more, we must attend the graduation ceremony. If someone has (困难) in attending it, he has to talk to his class teacher first. At the ceremony, our  (男校长) will give a speech to (祝贺) us and encourage us to move on. And we will be (授予) with diplomas. I have a  (感觉) that Iwill cry at the ceremony. After all, it's not easy to separate from my lovely teachers and classmates who have helped me a lot. But I know everyone has to be ready to welcome their future life. I'm going to sleep and I hope I can have a sweet dream  (今夜). Good night!

I was looking through my old photos last Sunday. One photo caught my eye. In the photo, I was sitting in a chair, hugging Duke, my best friend in the whole world. 

Duke was my friend from the moment I could walk. When I went outside to play games, he would drive our cats up to the trees and then walk off, feeling proud of   . When he was hungry, he would carry his food dish in his mouth and drop it at my mum's feet. When I was sick, he  to leave my bed until I got better.

 "The province is a microcosm(小宇宙) of all that draws visitors. " The most popular place of interest is Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park. It is most famous for its beautiful natural scenery of colourful lakes, mature forests, and amazing waterfalls. 

  It is home to one of the world's cutest animals. More than 30percent of the world's giant pandas live there. Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is the best place to go. Here people can closely observe pandas, like how they rest, eat and play with each other. Also people can learn how to feed them.

①Researchers have used high technology to learn about a famous painting by the Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. The painting is called Girl with a Pearl Earring. Vermeer was considered as one of the greatest art masters during the Dutch golden age of painting in the 1600s. 

②The researchers' tests have found out important information about how Vermeer did the painting. He began making the work with brown and black paint on a piece of cloth. Then he drew the girl's outline(轮廓) in black before working from the green background to the foreground.

What an amazing horse! Even more than a thousand years have passed, we can still feel the power within its burning eyes, orderly teeth and kicking hooves. Night-Shining White, now kept in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, is regarded as one of the most important horse paintings in the history of Chinese art. Its artist, Han Gan, is known for his drawing skills. 

Born into a poor family in the early Tang Dynasty, the young Han Gan had to help to support his family by working in a local wine shop. His talent(才能) in art was discovered by accident when he was sent to the poet WangWei's house to collect payment for some wine. While waiting at the gate, HanGan used a stick(木棍) to draw pictures on the ground and was seen by the poet. Wang Wei decided to help the young man to study painting. Because of Han's natural talent and years of hard work, he was finally chosen to serve Emperor(为皇帝效命) Xuanzong. 

The Tang emperors were crazy about horses. At that time, the most common way to study horse painting was to copy the works of previous painters. Han Gan's way, however, was different— He studied the animal itself. He was a frequent visitor to the royal stables(马舍) and even lived with the stable workers for some time. The horses, whether resting or moving, offered him a lot of ideas. The more time he spent studying these horses, the more his understanding of them grew. Day by day, Han Gan painted the horses, showing every detail that he saw with his own eyes. 

Those who saw Han Gan's horse paintings were all surprised at his skills, saying that his horses"could gallop(疾驰) off the paper". Even SuShi, the famous poet of the Song Dynasty, expressed his admiration for HanGan as one of the best horse painters with the words, "The horses painted byHan Gan are real horses. "

Then, Jessica did further reading about this plant. She found that it was often used to treat irregular heartbeats. She was excited about her discovery and believed that her experiment would find out if foxglove would grow more rapidly in space. In the next few weeks, Jessica designed an experiment that tested how different light, soil and water can affect the growth of foxglove plants, A week before the competition, Jessica completed her project, made a few changes suggested by her teacher and mailed it to CNSA. 

A break one day, Jessica told Ms Li, "My work is done, The next step is . . . space!"
