Have you seen Jackie Chan's shark protection poster at Hong Kong Ocean Park?Its slogan"I'm FINished WITH FINS" asks us to say no shark fin(鱼翅) soup. Do you know how it's made? Fishermen catch sharks, cut off their fins and throw the injured(受伤的) sharks back into the sea. Unable to swim, the sharks slowly die——a cruel practice known as"finning".

Why should we care about sharks? Scientifically, sharks are important for a healthy ocean. They are at the top of the food chain. They usually eat old, sick, or slower fish. This helps control the populations of other animals and keeps the species they hunt strong and healthy. If shark numbers drop too low, it can cause unexpected problems throughout the ocean's ecosystem, breaking the balance(平衡).

However, sharks are now in great danger. It is reported that around 70 million sharks are caught and traded globally every year. The numbers of some shark species have dropped by over 90 percent in the last 20 to 30 years.

The good news is that awareness is growing. Environmental groups worldwide are teaching the public about the problem. Some governments have made laws to control the shark fin trade. Furthermore, scientists report that shark fins have no special nutritional(营养) value. Protecting sharks is actually about understanding that every creature, even the shark, has a valuable role in the blue planet we all share.

Many think saving endangered animals is a job for scientists in faraway forests.But the truth is, our actions in the city can make a real difference. The challenge is learning to share our urban(城市的) home with wildlife and changing our daily habits.

Change starts with personal choices. The idea is simple:"No buying, no killing."When we stop buying products from endangered animals, we cut off the reasons for hunting them. Also, being a responsible tourist means never buying wildlife souvenirs(纪念品) or hurting animals for photos. Our smart choices help reduce the illegal(违法的) hunting.

Communities can create safer spaces. A great example happened in Shenzhen. A team found a protected wild snake trapped in(困在) an old fishing net in a city reservoir. People from a rescue center saved it. After care, the healthy snake was successfully put back into a protected forest. This shows that with teamwork, we can directly help animals even in our city.

City planning plays a big part. Shenzhen is building more parks and green ways,like the"Mountains-Sea Corridor(通道)." These green spaces act as"life highways"for birds and small animals, letting them move and find food in the city. Protecting animals is about keeping our urban ecosystem healthy and balanced for everyone.

Protecting endangered animals is a shared responsibility that connects our daily lives, community actions, and city's green future. When we all play our part, people and wildlife can live peacefully together.

Last summer, a piece of exciting news spread through our school: a Bryde's whale(布氏鲸) had appeared in Dapeng Bay, right in Shenzhen! I had always thought of our city as a place of tall buildings, but this made me realize we also live by the sea.On weekends, my classmates and I joined the crowds at the seaside, hoping to have a look.

There it was! A dark, smooth back would break the surface, followed by a spray of water. We watched, breathless, as it hunted. It swam in slow circles, gathering fish.Then, it would open its huge mouth, eating them in one go. Seabirds flew around it,trying to catch the fish that ran away. It looked so powerful and free. We gave it a name: Xiao Bu. For over a month, watching Xiao Bu online and hoping to see it became part of my daily life. It felt like we shared a secret with the city.

Then, one day, the news turned sad. Xiao Bu was found dead. Some said it might have been hit by a boat. I felt a deep loss. I had imagined it swimming happily back to the deep ocean one day, not ending like this. I learned that a whale's death in nature,called a"whale fall", can feed countless sea creatures for a hundred years, its life continuing in a different way.

The story of Xiao Bu changed me. That whale connected me to the ocean in a wayI never expected. Now, whenever I look at the sea, I remember that we share this home with amazing animals. It is our responsibility to protect them and their home, so that such a sad goodbye doesn't happen again.

In early 2026, a documentary(纪录片 ) called"Return to the Wild" touched millions of hearts online. It told the real and emotional 1 between a painter named Li Weiyi and a wolf named Green.

The most unforgettable 2  was their goodbye. Green seemed to understand that Li Wei yi was human, a species he could not fully trust. But, she was also the"mother" who 3 him. He stopped and looked back at her one last time, but didn't come closer. He finally turned and walked into the wilderness 4 .

The film also showed a  5  fact. In a small shop, there was a coat made from wolf fur. This shocking scene, along with the report of 620 wolf skins, served as a strong 6  for the public. It made people see the cruel(残忍的) results of hunting. This powerful film played a key role in the decision to  7  wolves. Finally, in2020,  wolves  became  a  national  second-level  protected animal in China.
