Contrary(相反) to what many people may think, playing isn't just a waste of time. Having the ability to play and relax meaningfully during your free time is important. 

"Leisure(闲暇) doesn't improve quality of life if one doesn't know how to use it effectively, " James Wallman, the author ofTime and How to Spend It, told CNBC Make It, explaining that some experiences are"junk experiences" while others are like"superfoods". 

The"superfood" activities put you into a state of"flow". It is about"being in the present zone and really enjoying yourself"according to Wallman. 

To achieve a state of"flow", there must be a balance between the challenge of the task and your skill level. For example, if you' re trying to create a difficult computer programme but your skill level is low, then you' re likely to feel stressed instead of achieving"flow". On the contrary, if the task is too easy, then boredom will set in and you won't achieve"flow". 

When you can enter a state of"flow", it means you have a high leisure quotient(LQ, 玩商). It is an index(指数) used to describe one's ability to relax and play. A high LQ usually means that a person has good control over their life and knows how to develop their potential(潜能) according to China Daily. 

Psychological(心理学的) research shows that people with high LQ scores feel happier and generally avoid depression(抑郁) and other mental illnesses. Meanwhile, Kenichi Ohmae, a Japanese management expert, points out that those who can play well will probably succeed. 

Instead of doing passive activities like scrolling through short videos, people with high LQ scores actively choose activities that match(匹配) their interests and strengths, giving them consistent(持续的) positive feedback. 

According to Wallman, examples of this positive feedback include a memorable story you can share with others, a new skill or a different worldview, greater understanding of the real world and improved relationships or a higher social status(地位). 

The next time you find yourself bored with nothing to do, try engaging in some experiences that could benefit you or add to your life.

As we all know, curiosity has many good points. Many great discoveries in history were made by curious people. People wondered how things worked and how work could be done more quickly. Thanks to their curiosity, people now know a lot more about the world and have useful technology to help them. Curiosity can still help you in the classroom. If you develop the curiosity of learning, classes will become more interesting and you will do better in schoolwork. Even if you' re no longer a student, curiosity will make you a great worker.

What's your favourite colour? How much do you know about it? The World's Favourite Colour Project(WFCP) interviewed26, 596 people from over 100 different countries to get some information about people's favourite colour. It found that most people's favourite colour appears to be green or blue. The reason behind this may be that they are connected with the environment we live in and enjoy, such as the clear sky, clean water and beautiful forests. 

What is more, the World's Favourite Colour Project asked people to list things and feelings that they connect with colours. It also hoped to find out what different colours mean to different people, and what may influence this. Many scientists have studied the relationship between colours and feelings. "For one thing, we have found the brighter the colour is, the more it is connected with happiness and excitement, " said Professor Anna Franklin, an expert in colour psychology(色彩心理学) at the University ofSussex. "For another, people are more likely to feel relaxed and comfortable when seeing a light colour. "

More often than not, colours have the same meanings for people all around the world: Yellow brings happiness; red means love; orange shows energy.   ▲   For example, while white means peace and luck in some cultures, it is connected with unlucky meanings in some other cultures. 

News is all around us. People get news from almost everywhere. According to a recent study, about 60% of people read news on their smartphones while about 30% watch news on TV. About 40% of them read news at least once an hour, and about20% read newspapers every morning. Young people like to share and talk about news on social media. It's normal to feel a little upset when you see stories that seem worrying. There are things you can do to help with your feelings. 

It's fun to learn about good stories, but bad news happens too. For example, reports about climate change can make you feel upset. "Bad news isn't nice to hear, " says Dr Aaron Balick. "It is normal to feel worried about these things. " Studies also show that we remember bad news stories more easily and clearly. This is called"negative bias" and scientists say people have it because it's a very old way to keep us safe and away from danger. 

If you' re worried about a story you' ve seen on social media, for example, ask your parents or teachers to help you find out if it's true. Another way to deal with(应对) bad news is to put your worry into action. If you find stories about climate change upset, believe that you can help. Everyone can do something to make our world a better place. Also, "Don't keep your feelings to yourself, " according to Balick. Talk to someone you trust because this may help you understand where your feelings come from and why you feel this way.
