Paper was a Chinese invention. Chinese invented paper about 2, 000 years ago. It was so expensive that only the king and the rich could afford to use it. About 1, 900 years ago, a man called Cai Lun improved the papermaking process. He made cheap thin paper out of tree bark(树皮)and rags(破布) .  Later, Chinese paper was spread to the West through the Silk Road.  Of all the paper, Xuan paper, a kind of high quality rice paper, best shows the  charm (魅力) of traditional Chinese painting and writing. 

Xuan paper was popular in the Tang Dynasty. Handmade Xuan paper from Anhui Province was soft but strong. And it can absorb(吸收)liquid of water or ink very quickly.  So they liked it very much. The traditional making of Xuan paper needs Carambola Vine Juice. The entire procedure is so difficult that few men know how to make it. 

Thousands of years of culture was recorded on paper and passed to different parts of the world. They made it possible for more and more people to know the   ancient   Chinese. Xuan paper is the treasure of papermaking.  

The Four Great Inventions of ancient China—papermaking, printing, gunpowder, and the compass—have had an important influence on the world. 

My love of building things began when I was a kid. It wasn't until I1 about Thomas Edison, though, that I really became excited about inventing.
