My Dream Job

Everyone has his/ her own dream. My dream job is 

"Every worker coming to Beijing has their own reasons. No one lives here without a dream," said Chen Jianguo, a 35-year-old food deliveryman (送餐员) from a small and poor town. 

Chen Jianguo dreamed of having his own business in Beijing about 16 years ago. But his father asked him to take his place as a truck driver. Although Chen disliked the job, he didn't want to make his father sad. He took the job as a truck driver. Then he got married and had a son. 

"I got quite good pay, but life was boring there during those years. Most of the time I had nothing to do." said Chen. So Chen decided to give up his job and come to Beijing. His wife agreed that he should go for his dream. So did his son. 

Chen has been a food deliveryman for a month. He works for 15 hours every day and hardly has time for lunch at noon. "I want to give a better life to my wife and little son." he said. "I must work harder and try to become the best food deliveryman at my station." Chen likes his job because he can meet many different people. 

Chen plans to start his own restaurant in the future, so he always writes down what food people have ordered. In this way, he can know about different people's tastes.

Jobs have changed a lot throughout history. Long ago, nearly 90% of people worked on farms. They grew crops  wheat and rice, and raised animals such as cows and chickens to sell or eat. Life was hard then, and work started at sunrise and ended at sunset.

Then came the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. Machines began to do work that humans used  (do). Steam engines powered factories, and people moved from villages to  (city). Jobs like making clothes by hand disappeared, while new jobs such as train drivers and engineers appeared. But  (sad), young children worked in dangerous factories too.

In the 20th century, technology  (change) jobs again. Computers  the Internet created many new jobs. For example, people started working as computer programmers, online game designers and social media managers. Offices became common, and sharing ideas through teamwork grew important. By year 2000, some jobs even let people work from home!

Today, robots and artificial intelligence are changing  (we) workplaces. Machines can now clean houses, sort packages, and help doctors during surgeries. This means some old jobs may disappear, but exciting new ones will come.

What will jobs be like in 30 years? Experts say digital skills like coding will be  (use). Soft skills like creativity and communication will matter even more. People might learn some different skills in their lifetime! "Never stop learning," say some scientists. Because changes will only get even (fast).

Gael and Miguel were two boys living in a small town. Both of them expected to become  in the future.

They spent their days pretending (假装) to be firefighters and saving their toys from the fire  they were only six years old. They also visited the local fire station every weekend. As they  older, they took their pretend play more seriously. They even built a small fire station at home. Chief Ron, leader of the fire station, showed  the communication room when the two boys visited the station. They learned how firefighters talked with their teammates during emergencies. These experiences made them have in their dreams. And they promised that they would try their best to  their dreams.

As time passed, Gael and Miguel became volunteers (志愿者) at the fire station. They helped Chief Ron check (检查) the fire trucks and do other things. These experiences made them , and they learned the duty of firefighters. They also  a deep friendship with Chief Ron.

After high school, they chose to go to the Fire School. The training was hard, but they always remembered their  and dreams. During their four years in the school, they were trained very well. , their dreams came true!

Choosing a career isn't always easy, but there is still some advice to help make up your mind.

Don't let other people decide what you should do.

Sometimes adults may want you to become a doctor or a teacher. Listen to them, but remember it's your life and it's your decision.

Consider what you are good at.

It's true that things like salary (工资) are important, but don't let them lead you down the wrong path (道路). Follow your heart and your personality.  If you don't like work which needs lots of attention to detail, think long and hard before you decide to do something like applying to study engineering at university.

Your first decision isn't forever.

 They start a job, love it straight away and stick at it. But it isn't always like that. So you are allowed to change your mind. Maybe your first job doesn't turn out to be suitable (适合的) for you. Maybe the right job for you is right around the corner！

Generally, people get more satisfaction out of their career if they feel they are doing something valuable for others. It doesn't have to be charity work.  Just don't forget that job satisfaction isn't only about money.

Zhang Wei puts on his safety belt (带子). He will clean the windows of a very tall hotel today. He looks down. The cars on the street look very small. He feels a little nervous, but he knows his job is important.

Safety is the most important thing. Every morning, he checks his ropes and his belt very carefully. He always tells himself, "Be safe. Do not hurry."

His friend, Mr. Chen, is on the roof to help him. First, they tie the ropes to a strong place on the roof. Then, Zhang Wei steps back and starts to go down the side of the building.

He cleans from the top floor. He uses a hose (软管) to put clean water on the window. Next, he uses a brush to clean the dirt. Finally, he uses a tool called a squeegee (橡皮刮水刷) to make the window dry and very clear. He does this for every window.

When he works, he can see inside the rooms. He sees people working or having meals. Sometimes, a child sees him and waves. Zhang Wei smiles and waves back. This makes him happy.

At the end of the day, his work is done. He climbs down to the ground. He looks up at the building. All the windows are clean and shining in the sun. Zhang Wei feels proud. His job is high in the sky, but it makes the city look beautiful.

Everyone gets ill sometimes. When you are ill, you will feel uncomfortable and you can't study or work well. So it's important to know how to look after yourself when you are ill.

First, you should go to see a doctor. The doctor will check you and tell you what's wrong with you. Then, you should follow the doctor's advice. For example, if you have a cold, the doctor may tell you to take some medicine, drink more hot water and have a good rest. You shouldn't go out and play, because it will make you worse.

Second, you should eat healthy food. When you are ill, your body needs more nutrition to get better. You can eat some vegetables, fruits and porridge. You shouldn't eat cold food, spicy food or sweet food. They are bad for your health.

Third, you should have enough sleep. Sleep can help your body recover quickly. You shouldn't stay up late. You should go to bed early and get up early.

Finally, you should keep a happy mood. A happy mood is good for your recovery. You can listen to some light music or talk with your family and friends.

If you follow these suggestions, you will get better soon.

Right now you probably spend most of your time at school. Do you wonder what you are going to do after high school? Will you go to university? Will you go to work? Maybe it is time to think about your jobs and to prepare (准备) for them. Someday work will be a big part of your life.

What kind of job would be right for you in the future? Think about your interests and skills (兴趣和技能). You may like to listen to music, dance, play basketball, or work with computers. You may know how to cook a delicious meal or how to get along with people. Knowing both your interests and skills will help you make a better plan for your future job.

Laura, an art designer (设计师), enjoys her work because she can use her interests and skills in her work. She enjoyed imagining something in her mind when she was at school. She took art design and computer lessons and also learned about taking photos on her own.
