Volunteering helps others, but it can also help you. If you're upset about something that's happened—like a storm or other disasters (灾难)—doing something about it can be a great way to cope (处理) with your feelings.

Volunteering also lets you see your own life in new ways. Sometimes it's easy to worry about things like grades or get angry because you don't have the most expensive gym shoes or the newest computer game.

Volunteering lets you spend some time focusing on others for a while.

Lots of people and kids find that they really enjoy volunteering. Volunteer experiences often put you in a different environment and show you people and situations that you wouldn't have me across in your life. For example, you might learn that just on the edge (边缘) of your town are some kids who really need winter clothes.

It is good to be able to meet a need like that. You'll know that, thanks to you, some kids have warm coats, hats, gloves and boots. So whether it's winter clothes, food for the hungry, or homes for unwanted pets, doing volunteer work means one very important thing: You make a difference in the world. So where do you start?

The Forbidden City can always take its visitors' breath away.

This year, the world's largest wooden palace is more than 600 years old! Do you know who made it?

In 1406, when the Ming Yongle Emperor decided to move the country's capital from Nanjing to Beijing, he started to build a palace in Beijing. It took about a million workers 14 years to finish it.

Materials like Nanmu and stones were sent from all over China to Beijing. Nanmu, the most valuable

Chinese wood, was used to make huge wooden pillars (柱子). People could only find it deep in forests over 1,800 km away from Beijing. Workers had to float the wood on rivers all the way north to Beijing. Stones were also transported to the palace. The heaviest stone in the Forbidden City is about 250 tons. It was so heavy that people could only move it during winter. They poured water onto the road to create ice. Then thousands of workers pulled the stone on the ice to the palace.

As one of China's largest palaces, the Forbidden City is a must-see for all visitors.

Tiffany loves spring and summer because the snails usually come outside to her workplace during the seasons. And she loves1 the snails.

One day, Tiffany noticed that the snails would usually2 their way across a walkway at the bottom of a staircase (楼梯), and a lot of people were also3 through the place. This worried Tiffany as the snails might be stepped (踩) on by accident. And they seemed to be more4 in the early mornings and on warm, wet days or the day after it rains.

Do you ever go to the Qinghai­Tibet Plateau(青藏高原)? It stands in the southwest of China. The weather there changes a lot in summer. You can feel" four seasons" in just one day. 

"Spring" morning. In the early morning, it's cool. After the sun comes out, it becomes warm, like spring. It's a good time to take a walk. Because the plateau is very high, just not right for running. 

"Summer" noon. At noon, it's sunny and hot. You might feel like it's summer. The sunlight is so strong (强烈) that you might want to wear glasses. Sometimes, it rains, but the rain doesn't last long. You might see rainbows if you are lucky. 

"Autumn" afternoon. After the sun goes down, it becomes cool quickly, just like autumn. You must remember to put on warm clothes. 

"Winter" night. Late at night, it gets cold, like winter. You'd better sleep with a heavy quilt. The rainy season is from June to September each year. 

Many people have cars today. We can go anywhere by car. But everyone must follow the traffic(交通)rules. 

For walkers, they must stop if the lights(灯)are red. They should look on the left and right when they are going across the roads. 

 They mustn't talk or laugh when they are driving. The traffic police always ask them to stop driving when the lights are red. When people are driving, they should wear a seat belt. 

Many people take buses. So for passengers(乘客), they should wait in line, and follow the rules.  If the buses are too full, they should wait for the next one. 

I hope people can follow them and there will be fewer traffic accidents. 

Long time ago, there was a king. The king was very old. He wanted to choose a boy to be the next king. The next day the king gave a notice: All boys in the country needed to come to the palace. There they would get special flower seeds(种子) from the king. "If you can show the best flower to me in a year, you will be the next king, "the king said. 

Boys from all over the country went to the palace to get their flower seeds. A boy named Ping also went there. Ping was excited and confident. He was sure that he could grow the most beautiful flower. Ping was careful with the seed. He put it in a pot(花盆) and watered it every day. But there was nothing in his pot one year later. Spring came and all boys visited the king with beautiful flowers.   △  

But the king told everyone that he boiled(煮) all the seeds before giving them to boys. So these seeds wouldn't become flowers forever. The king was happy to see Ping's pot without flowers. He decided to make Ping the next king because of his honesty (诚实). Ping was really happy.
