Recently, nearly 200 people in Vienna, got together for a special activity. They did two fun things at the same time. They knitted and watched the movie The Devil Wears Prada together. 

"It may sound like something grandmothers do, but it's really relaxing," joked 28-year-old Koch, who loves knitting, "And there's nothing wrong with letting the____grandmother side, of us come out!" Knitting while watching movies is becoming popular in Europe. 

Luisa Palmer was one of the event's organizers. She said that,"During the COVID-19, many people started knitting when they had to stay at home alone." After that, Palmer started monthly "knitting movie nights" at a cinema. At these movie nights, people knit, eat snacks, and some even feed their babies while watching the film. She said this activity is a new way to make movie-watching more interesting. 

To help people avoid mistakes in their knitting, the cinema keeps soft lights on during the movie. This also makes it easier for people to talk to each other. 

"I usually knit at home while watching movies," said 23-year-old fashion student Kaja Vospernik. "So cinemas are the perfect place for this activity!" As the movie plays, people's colorful knitting projects slowly take shape. For many, the movie becomes less important than their knitting. Everyone shows off their finished work, and experienced knitters help beginners learn new skills. 

People join these events for different reasons. Some say they want to connect with something real, not just things on a computer. Others say they want to "slow down a little" in their busy lives. 

Palmer said, "Doing something with your own hands is more satisfying than working on a computer all day." She added that choosing the right movie is important too. She joked that scary movies are not a good idea—they might make you jump and lose your place in the knitting!

Many years ago, I worked as a taxi driver. One time I had to pick up a passenger in the middle of the night. When I arrived at the address, the building was dark, except a light in a ground floor window. Waiting for a few minutes, I heard a weak voice from an old woman, "Just a minute." The door opened. I saw a lady in her eighties. She carried a little suitcase in her hand. I helped her get into my taxi. "Thank you." she said. 

After we sat in the taxi, she gave me an address and asked, "Could you drive through the city center?" I told her that was not the shortest way. "I know, but I'm going to a hospice. I have no family at all." I saw tears in her eyes. 

I quietly turned off the taxi meter(计程器) and asked her which way she wanted to go. As we drove through the city, the old lady showed me the places that meant a lot to her. There was the building where she once worked, the house where she lived with her husband, and a house with a big ballroom. She used to dance there when she was young. 

After two hours' driving, we arrived at the address, two nurses came over to the taxi. "How much should I pay you?" she asked. "Nothing." I said. Then I gave her a hug. She held me very tight. "Thank you for the happy moments," she said. 

When I walked back to my taxi, I heard a door close. It sounded like the end of a life. I didn't pick up any more passengers that day. I just drove aimlessly, thinking about the old lady. What if she had met a cold driver? I think this trip was the most meaningful thing I have ever done in my life.

Our planet is a wonderful place full of beauty and life. We are (出生) on this amazing earth, and it provides us with everything we need to live happily. The green forests, clear rivers, and colorful meadows are all reasons for us to take (自豪) in our home.

Many of us enjoy going on picnics in these beautiful natural places. It's a great way to relax and have (乐趣) with family and friends. But have you ever thought about how our actions during these picnics can affect the environment?

When we have a picnic, we often bring a lot of things, like food in plastic packages and drinks in (瓶子). After we finish our picnic, if we don't clean up properly, all the waste can cause big problems. It is (有害的) to the environment. They stay in the land and water for a very long time, polluting the soil and harming the animals that live there. Some animals might think these things are food, eat them, and get (严重地) sick or even up dead.

We also need to pay attention to (医疗的) waste. Although it's not as common during picnics, in general, it must be carefully managed. If it gets into the environment, maybe it (传播) diseases and causes serious harm.

We should all take responsibility for protecting our environment. We can start by cleaning up after ourselves when we have a picnic. Pick up all the trash and throw them in the right bins. We can (也) encourage others to do the same.

If we don't take action now, we will keep (感到遗憾) it in the future. Our beautiful planet is our only home, and we need to protect it. Let's make every effort to keep it clean and healthy, for ourselves and for all the living things that share this place with us, except for the pollution that destroys our home.

I was a young man finishing up my teaching degree at college. I was1 to a high school to do my student teaching. The car,2 twenty years old, was my only means of transportation. It had broken down several times and my dad had tried to 3 it. Still, it burned oil and backfired. It had also had flat tires (爆胎) more than once, so I had a jack (千斤顶), and a spare in my car ready to go. It was all I could 4 though, so I prayed to God as I drove along that it would last one more day.

As I drove down the road on the way to the 5 , I noticed something up ahead on the other side of the four lane road. It was a car parked to the side. As I got 6 , I noticed that it had a flat tire. An elderly lady was standing next to it, not knowing what to do. I knew I would be 7 , but decided to turn at the next exit, head back to her, and help. It took about five 8 but I made the turn. But when I was 9 there, I saw two men had already arrived and were helping 10 . One was jacking up the car, while the other was talking to the old lady and holding her hand like he was her own grandson.

I slowed, pulled up, and asked if they needed any help. The lady said, "No, thanks dear. These wonderful gentlemen are 11 my car." I waved and drove on to another exit to turn back onto my lane. But as I did I noticed that there was a 12 on my face and a happiness in my heart. It felt good knowing there were still so many 13 people out there.

Looking back on this makes me realize that faith isn't just 14 you believe. It is what you do. Love isn't just how you feel. It is how you 15 . May all of your days be full of faith and love then. May all of your days be filled with acts of kindness.

Last Saturday, our school organized a community clean-up activity.  The event started at 9:00 a.m. and lasted for three hours.

 Group One picked up litter in the park. Group Two planted flowers along the streets. Group Three taught children how to sort recyclable waste. I was in Group Four, and our job was to paint old benches in the community garden.  Many neighbors came out to thank us and even brought us water and snacks.

The most touching moment came when an elderly man named Mr. Li shared his story. He said, "I've lived here for 30 years. Seeing young people care for our community warms my heart." 3 By noon, the park looked brighter, the new flowers added color to the streets, and the benches looked brand new.

Our teacher announced (宣布) that we'll hold such events every season. I can't wait for the next one!

①If you have a chance to go to Finland, you will probably be surprised to find how "foolish" the Finnish people are.

②Take the taxi drivers for example. Taxis in Finland are mostly high-class Benz with a fare of two US dollars a kilometer. You can go anywhere in one, tell the driver to drop you at any place, say that you have some business to attend to, and then walk off without paying your fare. The driver would not show the least sign of being annoyed and worried.

③The dining rooms in all big hotels not only serve their guests, but also serve outside diners (就餐者). Hotel guests have their meals free, so they just go to the free dining rooms to have their meals. The most they would do to show their good faith is to wave their registration (登记) card to the waiter. With such a loose check, you can easily use any old registration card to take a couple of friends to dine free of charge.

④The Finnish workers are paid by the hour. They are very much on their own as soon as they have agreed with the boss on the pay. From then on, they just say how many hours they have worked and they will be paid accordingly.

⑤With so much carelessness in everyday life, surely Finland must be a heaven to those who love to take "petty advantages (小便宜)". But the strange thing is, all the taxi passengers would always come back to pay their fare after they have attended to their business; not a single outsider has ever been found in the free hotel dining rooms. And workers always give an honest account of the exact hours they put in.

⑥As the Finns always act on good faith in everything they do, living in such a society has turned everyone into a real "gentleman". In a society of such high moral (道德的) practice, what need is there for people to be on guard against others?

Imagine you are in an autonomous vehicle (AV, 自动驾驶车辆) and face this terrible choice: The car must either turn left and hit an 8-year-old girl, or turn right and hit many walkers. On top of this "moral dilemma (道德困境)", if the car doesn't turn, you could be in danger. What decision would you want the car to make?

When AVs face dangerous situations, should they save people in the car first or walkers? Should they put the greater good above one person's safety? These questions have been under discussion for years, but there is no perfect answer.

"A moral dilemma is a dilemma; it has no clear answer," wrote Derek Leben, a professor at the Tepper School of Business, US, in his paper.

Iyad Radhwan, an MIT scientist studied these questions. He found out that people often think about their own safety first. "People buying these cars, they want cars that protect the passengers. But they want other people's cars to protect walkers instead."

AVs bring not only moral dilemmas but also problems with rules. If there is an accident, who should be responsible?

In July, 2024, a self-driving taxi by Baidu hit a walker in Wuhan, Hubei, who ran a red light. Baidu worked with the police and took the walker to the hospital. In another accident in Seattle, US, in April, 2024, it was decided that the "driver" should be responsible because he was on his phone while in the full self-driving mode (模式).

The situations of different accidents caused by AVs are so complex (复杂的) that "now there are no very clear laws about it", said Ji Xuehong, a researcher from North China University of Technology.

Jess Bhamra is the 18-year-old daughter of an Indian family in London. Jules Paxton is the same age and the daughter of an English family. Jess is crazy about football, but because she's a girl, she isn't allowed to play.

Sometimes she plays in the park with some boys and one day, Jules, who also plays football, sees Jess playing. They get on really well and Jules invites Jess to try out for the local women's football team coached by Joe. When he sees how good Jess is, Joe puts her in the team. When Jess's parents find out that she's been playing football without their knowing, they make her stop.

The team gets to an important final. Unluckily, the final is on the same day as Jess's sister's wedding (婚礼). Joe asks Mr Bhamra to let Jess play, but he refuses. However, her father notices how sad Jess is. So halfway through the wedding, he lets Jess go and she rushes to the game!

When she shows up, there are only thirty minutes left and her team are losing 1-0. Soon, the score is 1-1, and when there's a free kick, Jess has to bend the ball around the other team's players to score. She makes it, and the team wins!

A university in California offers soccer scholarships (奖学金) to Jess and Jules. Jess's parents finally agree to let her go. Jess and Jules set off for America and both of them become top players in their team. Their parents feel proud because they make their dreams come true.

Heat packs (暖宝宝贴) are helpful to many of us in the cold winter. However, sometimes a heat pack can swell (膨胀) too much. Is it dangerous?
