An Unforgettable Experience

The Duku Highway is a very famous road in Xinjiang. It is known for its beautiful views and exciting journey. The road was completed in September, 1983, running over 500 kilometres, from a city called Dushanzi to Kuqa. 

The highway is surrounded (环绕) by high mountains and wide grasslands. If you drive on this road, you will see amazing snow-covered mountaintops and green fields. The road takes you through lots of canyons (峡谷) and rivers, and you can see wonderful views at every turn. 

One of the best parts of the Duku Highway is the Tianshan Grand Canyon. This is a really big canyon with red and yellow cliffs (悬崖). It is a perfect place to take pictures. You can also go hiking there, and enjoy the fresh air and peaceful surroundings. 

Another place you must visit on the Duku Highway is the colourful Danxia landform. It is an area where the rocks and cliffs have been changing over time. The rocks are bright red, orange, and yellow, and they look like a rainbow. That's why it is called "Colourful Danxia". 

The Duku Highway is really a great place for people who love nature. However, when you enjoy the view, do remember those soldiers who started building the road in 1973. 168 of them lost their lives for it. Therefore, this road is also known as the "Road of Heroes". 

Nanjing Brocade (织锦缎) is one of China's most famous traditional textiles. It is also a very old and beautiful kind of silk cloth and has a history of more than 1,600 y . 

Nanjing Brocade is known for its bright c and beautiful patterns (图案). People say it looks like clouds in the sky, so it is called "Yunjin" in C. 

In the past, only the emperor and his family could wear clothes made of Nanjing Brocade because it was very e and took a long time to make. As the saying goes, "One inch of Yunjin is w one inch of gold." 

The weaving process is very difficult. Workers use a wooden machine, and two people must work t to make it. Today, Nanjing Brocade is still made by hand. The workers need to be patient and c to finish a piece. 

In 2009, Nanjing Brocade was listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Now more and more people are learning about this a art.

The Amazon is the world's biggest rainforest. It is in South America. It is so wide that it covers a little more than the half size of China! The Amazon River runs through the rainforest. It's the world's second longest river. The Amazon covers much of Brazil. The green colour on the national flag of Brazil stands for the rainforest. 

However, climate (气候) change and human activities make it "sick". Usually, the rainforest can fix itself. But now, it feels too "tired" to get better. According to a new study, many trees there may die, and the Amazon rainforest may turn into hot, dry grassland in a few years. 

Why is the Amazon "sick"? 

The Amazon is one of the world's wettest places. But since 2005, three droughts have hit the rainforest. They were caused by climate change. The trees don't have enough water to grow. What's worse, as they become dry, they can easily catch fire. 

Besides, people cut down rainforest trees for wood. They burn the forest to make farmland. All these kind of activities made about 17% of the rainforest disappear.
