The Chinese TV show To the Wonder makes more people know about Altay. The show is based on Li Juan's book My Altay. It tells the story of a girl called Li Wenxiu. The show is full of scenes of beautiful grasslands and mountains. 

Altay is in the northern part of Xinjiang. It has many amazing high mountains, clean rivers and forests.  There are beautiful lakes like Kanas, White, Double and Black lakes. The Kanas Lake runs through some pretty valleys. 

 In spring and summer, the green trees and the white snow mountains look nice together. The flowers also add their colours.  In winter, it becomes a world of ice and snow. Besides, groups of animals and round tents make a nice picture of nature and people. 

Altay is also famous for its rich culture. It is home to different ethnic groups (少数民族). Each group has its own way of life and language.  Travellers can go to busy markets, try traditional food and meet friendly local people. They can also hike, camp and ski. 

With its amazing land, rich culture and interesting outdoor activities, Altay is a must-visit place for travellers. 

How do you describe the surface of one thing? Round? Square? Or smooth? You may have different answers. But we know that we can describe the earth's surface through landforms. A landform is a natural mixture of rock and soil found on the earth. Landforms come in different kinds of shapes and sizes. Whole mountains, small hills, plateaus and plains are the four main kinds of landforms. 

Landforms are made by some kinds of forces of nature. The forces could be wind, water or ice. And it usually takes a very long time to form different landforms. Many landforms are formed by water. For example, you may see many valleys. They used to be high hills, but as time goes by, water and wind wear down high land into a plain, and then valleys are formed. 

What are the differences among the landforms? Valleys are located between hills or with many high mountains around. And there is usually a river at the bottom of the valleys. A delta (三角洲) is another landform created by water. Deltas can be found at the mouths of rivers. They are created when sand, soil and rock mix together. Hills and mountains are other landforms. A hill is raised land. A mountain is usually higher with a top. Most mountains are like towers but a few of them are like tables. Plains are flat land and plateaus are areas of flat land that are higher than the land around them. 

① Do you know what the world's highest waterfall is? You may say that it is Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls are really very beautiful. But in terms of (就……而言) height, the most fantastic falls in the world are Angel Falls. They are deep in the jungles of Venezuela (委内瑞拉). 

② Few people have ever seen Angel Falls. It's very hard to get there. If you go there on foot, you will have to travel for weeks through thick jungles. If you go by plane from Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela on the southern coast, it will take about four hours. 

③ The fascinating falls are wonders of nature. One of the most interesting facts about Angel Falls is how they were found. They were named after an American pilot. His name was James Angel. In 1937, his plane crashed (碰撞) near the falls. That's how he found them. 

④ Angel Falls drop nearly a kilometer from a table-top mountain. The water seems to be dropping straight out of the clouds. The height of the falls is so great that by the time the water reaches the ground, it has already turned into fog. 

⑤ If you have a chance (机会) to visit them, you'll never forget them! 

Water is one of the most useful things on earth. We drink it, wash with it and cook with it. However, it sometimes can be 1 .

Last weekend I went camping with my dad and my brother, Jim. We took a tent, sleeping bags, water and food. We arrived at the campsite on Saturday afternoon. There was enough room to build a campfire. Jim and I collected some dry leaves, small sticks and branches and Dad started a campfire. Then we cooked potatoes and beef for our supper. Everything tasted delicious. 

Soon it was time to put up the tent. We helped Dad pull the tent out of the bag, but unluckily we found there were no poles (杆子) to hold it up. Jim cried because he left the poles at home. Dad looked up at the starry (布满星星的) sky. The night was clear and the air was warm. "It's OK," he said to us. "We don't even need a tent." He put the sleeping bags on the ground. 

We slept well in the sleeping bags that night. The sun was shining on us when we woke up the next morning. I think it was my best camping trip.

Visit a library

Going to the library is also  good way to spend the free time. As you know, reading is a good habit. From books, you can learn a lot about the world. The quiet environment (环境), the nice smell, and the  (interested) books will make you relaxed.
