My New Year Resolutions

The start of every New Year is the perfect time for making plans to change our life for the better.     

A famous teacher says, "January 1 is a special date. It is much more helpful for us to make a resolution on January 1 than on January 26." So we all make a list of things to stop, start or change.

However, most of the people break their resolutions by January 31. They are usually the same resolutions from last year and even earlier. The teacher says people would like to make the same resolutions year after year, even though they find it hard to achieve them.

There is a survey about making resolutions. 500 people take part here. The survey shows 45% of people make a New Year's resolution. The most common resolutions are losing weight, saving money, and getting fit.

According to the survey, only 70% of people keep their resolution for about two weeks. Six months later, less than 50% still keep their resolutions. Many people don't have strong minds so they give up their resolutions.

But that's okay. The best resolution is to never stop trying. Even small steps, like drinking more water or smiling often, can make a difference.

China's "Green Ride" in 2025

This summer, Guangzhou held the first Youth Eco-Cycling Festival to welcome the 15th National Games. The table below shows the one-day results of the activity.

The official mascots of the 2026 Spring Festival Gala were just released winning great popularity online. They are four lively horses named Qigi, jiji, Chichi and Chengcheng, which (perfect)match the Gala' CHINESE NEW YEAR 2026 theme "Galloping Forward, Unstoppable" very well. Each mascot has a rich cultural story. 

Qiqi (get) ideas from a Western Zhou bronze object, and its color is based  the meaning of "Qi'--a dark green horse. Jiji is made after the Han Dynasty's "heavenly horse", with its wings spread wide as if flying toward the sun. Chichi comes from the Tang Dynast's "three-flower horse", was a sign of high position in old times. Chengcheng's model is the Przewalski's horse, special wild kind called a "living fossil" with a 60-million-year development history.
