In our school, we pay much attention to students' sense of responsibility and kindness. We believe that learning to help others is an important part of students' growth. Therefore, we have many volunteer activities and professional first aid courses to help students learn to help others and protect themselves. Here are some of our activities and rules. 

First Aid Courses: We have first aid courses every term, and the courses are divided into basic and advanced levels. The basic level is for all Grade Eight students, and the advanced level is for students who are interested in emergency treatment. The courses are taught by doctors from the nearby hospital who have many years of experience. Students learn how to deal with nosebleeds, burns, cuts and other common accidents. They also learn how to call for help, give basic first aid and even deal with some simple emergencies, like heart attacks. These courses help students protect themselves and others in danger and develop a sense of responsibility. 

Volunteer Activities: We have different volunteer activities every month, and all students are encouraged to take part in them. For example, we go to the old people's home on the first Saturday of every month. We help the elderly clean their rooms, talk to them, read newspapers for them and even help them go to the hospital for physical examinations. On the 15th of every month, we go to the primary school to help the younger students with their homework, especially those who have learning difficulties. We also collect old clothes, books and toys for the poor children in remote areas every term and organize charity activities to raise money for them. 

Volunteer Rules: All volunteers must follow these strict rules. First, be on time for the volunteer activities and don't be absent without permission. Second, be kind and patient to the people we help and respect their habits and feelings. Third, don't make noise or do something bad during the activities, and keep the environment clean. Fourth, follow the instructions of the activity leader and work together with other volunteers. 

These activities and rules help students become more caring and responsible. They not only help students learn new skills but also let them experience the happiness of helping others. We hope every student can join us and make a difference to the world.

My dad works for an aid organization. He and his workmates give 1 aid to the hungry people in the poor areas. Last weekend, I went with 2 to experience his daily work. I was there simply to hand people a leaflet. The job was 3 and I wasn't having fun.

My Sunshine Break

As we all know, breaks get big this term.

In the past, over the break times between classes, Xiao Jingsheng from Beijing Shangdi Experimental School often rushed to the toilet and back to class with no time for anything else. But now things have changed because of longer breaks. "I have more time to rest and share interesting things with my classmates," said the 14-year-old boy. 

Starting this September, students at primary and middle schools in Beijing have longer breaks between classes, changing from 10 minutes to 15 minutes. The aim is to encourage students to spend time outdoors for their physical and mental (心理的) health. 

To allow children to enjoy break-time activities, some schools have mixed break times with labor education by opening planting areas and animal breeding zones (饲养区).

Some schools have opened up activity areas both indoors and outdoors. At the School Research Center, the ground floor of the teaching building is built as a biology lab for students to study the life of animals and plants. The second floor is designed with spaces for free reading and chess games. "We have welcomed new friends—some ducks and rabbits to our school!" said Zhang Boren, a 13-year-old from Beijing 101 Middle School Kuangda Campus. "There are fewer students sitting at their desks during longer breaks between classes. Some play with these cute animals, while others exercise on the playground. When we get closer to nature, we feel pleased and relaxed." As the break time is longer, making sure everyone is safe is also important. PE teachers from the school keep an eye on students playing on the ground. "Sometimes the ground can be wet in the morning, so we remind the students to do more upper body (上肢) exercises to avoid running and slipping (滑倒)," said one PE teacher.

In China, schools usually have  10-minute break between classes. Sometimes, students can't go outside for safety. That's to say, they might not get enough outdoor time. But this autumn, some cities are changing that.

Beijing, Tianjin and Qingdao make breaks 5 minutes  (long) than before to help students get more exercise and fresh air. In Beijing, this hasn't changed the school day much for younger kids, but middle school students finish a bit later.

A school in Qingdao has cool ideas for these longer breaks. It organize many  (activity) for students during breaks. Schools introduce several games to make the breaks more  (colour). Some students like quiet activities. For  (they), there are books and board games (棋盘游戏). These games are easy  (start) and finish in 15 minutes, and they help students relax and get ready  the next class.

This change is good for students  it makes their school days more fun and healthier. Now, they can have more active breaks and feel better when they go back  (study). It's a nice way for schools to  (real) care about students' well-being and make the school a better place.

Last Thursday afternoon, our familiar school playground seemed to come alive. The weather was fine and the students were full of happiness. With the  of the participants（参与者）, the atmosphere （气氛）quickly became .

The "Learning with Joy" challenge had begun! We moved  different subject stations, answering all kinds of questions. Thanks  our daily learning, many problems were solved easily. The teachers kept  us, "Feel free to show yourselves!"

Each small challenge felt like opening a door to a new world, keeping everyone's interest high. Cheers and  followed every correct answer. The questions were  to our grade level—not too hard, but challenging enough to make us think. The activity didn't end   lunchtime.

What touched me  came after the activity. Without being asked, we all started cleaning up, making our playground even  than before.

This special day reminded us: learning can be full of joy, and our school is our shared home.

We should choose topics that    Chinese culture.

This experience made me more interested in studying Chinese  it was both fun and challenging.

When we discuss, we should respect others' opinions and think about our ideas  we speak.
