Although the thought of learning a skill might seem a bit difficult at first, mastering something new can be interesting. 

Why learn something new?

It's great to learn something new. "The mental (心理的) health advantages of learning a new skill for children are huge," says scientist Dr Sultana Choudhry. ""  It's also a great way to make new friends if you learn a new skill at a club or class with other people. Trying out a new sport could help you stay fit and healthy, too.

There are lots of things you can try, including learning a musical instrument, playing a sport or learning arts or crafts. A new skill doesn't have to be a hobby, though, it can also be something called a life skill. This is a skill that you will probably use throughout your life, when you're a grown-up. It can be something like learning to cook, laying the table, emptying the dishwasher, polishing your shoes or putting away clean clothes.

How do I start?

Think about what you enjoy doing or what you'd like to try. You can look for local groups and classes or see if your school is doing any new after-school activities. You don't always have to go out to learn a new skill, though.  Why not get a book from the library about your chosen skill or even look online with an adult, for tips on how to master something new?

No matter how you do it, booking (预订) holidays can be a headache. It used to require a visit to a travel agent (代理人). Later, online travel agents appeared, allowing people to plan trips from the comfort of their own homes. With the help of AI, now they can easily deal with the brainwork, too. For example, Expedia has introduced Romie—"an AI-powered travel buddy". And another company, Trip.com, has brought out TripGenie.

Many people expect AI to free them from boring work. This may explain why AI trip planners are drawing attention. They're perfect for those who go mad when booking holidays.

But are these AI booking agents reliable (可靠的)? Some have tried them out. When a couple asked TripGenie to find a romantic（浪漫的） hotel in Paris, its top suggestion was to live near the airport. "Well, perhaps the AI agent is still in its early days," they concluded.

Tools like TripGenie are facing competition from AI companies, too. OpenAI, for example, is testing its Operator. The AI bot is supposed to "mimic（模仿） a human's use of the Web". When asked about that Paris trip, it suggests places with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Some researchers think OpenAI might soon share the online travel agents' market.

However, AI booking agents have their own drawbacks. One problem is that they sometimes make mistakes. Air Canada got in trouble after its AI chatbot wrongly promised a user a discount (折扣). Could AI agents be fooled into booking a more expensive flight? Would anyone feel safe giving his or her credit card information to an AI agent then?

AI agents may also have difficulty understanding the difference of people's tastes. Someone may think it's not romantic to choose a metal tower at all. One couple—the groom Australian and the bride French—recently got married on a flight between their countries. For them, a hotel room by Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport might have suited them better.

①Hail（冰雹）,also called hailstorm, is a form of precipitation（降水形式）-like rain or snow-that is made up of ice. Hailstorms may happen all year long. Hail can even form in summer as long as the storms are strong.

②Hailstorms often visit the United States. The areas, Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming, are known as "Hail Alley" and they suffer seven to nine hail days every year. It's hard to tell exactly when a hailstorm might come.

③Hailstorms are very dangerous. They can cause lots of damage to people, buildings, cars, plants and animals. In fact, hailstorms can even cause deaths. For example, a hailstorm caused the deaths of over 1,000 people in 1360. So we should know how to stay safe during a hailstorm.

④One way to protect yourself from a hailstorm is to have your tools prepared throughout the year, and one of them must be helmets. They can help you protect your head from both the hail itself and other things brought by a heavy hailstorm. You should also make a plan for your family so that you all know where to go for safety.

⑤What's more, make sure you stay inside and stay away from windows until the hail stops. If possible, find a room at least one level down from the top of the house. Finally, if you get caught outside in a hailstorm and can't find a house to stay in, find something to protect your head. Remember: Stay out of lowland areas, because they could be full of water. And don't forget to avoid trees.

I recently lost my best friend Arnold in an accident while moving to our new home in Arizona. Arnold was an 8-month-old pig who taught me so much about love and companionship(陪伴).

Arnold didn't know he was a pig—he thought he was just another member of our family. He believed he was loved by all.

He loved to sleep on my leg as I sat on the sofa watching TV. He also helped me with my housework. Just being at my feet，interested in what I was doing made the housework enjoyable. My parents always said that Arnold and I were so intimate that he had become the brother that I never had in our family. It seemed that we could no longer have any kind of conversation in our family or with our friends without Arnold being a main topic. My classmates came to visit Arnold and couldn't wait to play with him. Arnold went almost everywhere with us—Pet's Mart，birthday parties，and Christmas vacations. He loved riding in the car or the shopping basket. Arnold had become such an important part of our life.

On the day we left our old home town，we had a going-away lunch with our friends from church. Everyone there just went out to the truck where Arnold and our other pets were and said goodbye. Arnold trusted that I can take care of him and get him to his new home. However，along the way，the wind knocked our truck out of control(控制). We lost a big part of our family that day because Arnold was killed. I feel terrible for not being able to protect Arnold. However，I will be forever thankful for the warm memories (记忆) of him.

Li Yuxuan is a middle school student from Chengdu. She loves the earth and she is little helper for nature.

Li often uses Al to learn about (protect) nature. Al helps her get to know   (plant) and animals. Then she goes to the forest and (find) them. She tries to protect them with the help of AI. Many people learn much from her. They say (they) knowledge about nature helps a lot. And they get (good) at protecting nature than before.

Now Li works together with her family  classmates. Every weekend, they help in the nature. Her friends Mary and Jack are the (one) and the second to go with her.

Good morning, everyone! I'm Tony. My topic today is "What ties a family together". I think it's many things that help us stay together.

First, being there for each other is very (重要的). Even if someone is (缺席的) or silent, we always keep each other in mind. We are (很少) angry with each other because we try to listen and understand. (几乎) every night, we eat dinner together. It's a time to talk and share our day. So at this time, we don't need to hide (我们自己) . When we meet some difficulties, we usually have (严重的) talks, but we also (开玩笑) and laugh a lot. Even when we have different ideas, we refuse to let it (中断，打破) our bond. We know each person's (职位) in the family and respect it. As a result,we face (问题) together and get close to each other.

④There are many things you can do on Friendship Day. You can make a card or write a note to tell your friends why they're great. You can also make them a small gift like a cake. Whatever you do on this day, it's a time to have fun and celebrate with friends, and maybe make some new ones!

Many families in the USA celebrate Grandparents' Day on the first Sunday of September. The festival is a special day for grandparents. It is a good time to thank them for their love and care. No matter where you are, you can always do small and nice things to show your love for your grandparents. Here are some easy and fun ways for you.

Surprise them with simple acts of kindness. Send a hand-written card to your grandparents. Write down your warm wishes on it. Cook dinner for them and make their favorite food. If you live far away, calling them on the phone and sharing your daily life is also a great idea.

Spend time together. If you have time, you can go for a walk in the park or read a book with them quietly.

    ▲     — this is another fun way to get close. You can ask them questions like: What was your favorite game as a child? What subject did you like best at school? It can be really interesting if you find some same hobbies, and these talks will become sweet memories for both of you.

I am Timo. Do you want to know what a school day is like? I can tell you about that.

My school begins at 9:00 am. I usually have breakfast at home. Then I walk to school. It's only a 10-minute walk. There are 18 students in my class. Each lesson is 45 minutes long. We study many things, like science, maths, home economics and PE. I really enjoy home economics lessons, because they teach me how to manage(操持，打理) a home and family life.

Lunchtime is usually at 12:00 at noon. The afternoon lessons begin at 12:30 and finish at 2:15 pm. After school, we have some time to hang out at the park. Then I go to my ice hockey club. It's my favourite sport.

My family always has dinner at around 6:00 pm. After that, I read with my parents for an hour. That's an important part of my everyday life. Then I get my schoolbag ready for the next day. At 9:30 pm, 1 go to bed.

So there you have it. That's my school day.
