My cousin Seb and I have always been close friends, even though we grew up in different parts of the world. Our mothers are (sister). but Seb's family moved to Melbourne and mine to New York,we only saw each other during family summers in England.

When a film is successful, it's usually the actors who get all the attention in the media, but at the Oscars this is different. The actors are just one part of what makes a film successful. Behind the scenes there is a hard-working team that makes it all happen. They are just as important as the big stars and the Oscars recognise many of these people who we never usually consider. 

One of the most important people behind the scenes is the director. The director's job is to give directions to the actors and the film crew(团队). However, a director doesn't work alone. He or she needs to work closely with lots of other people behind the scenes. 

All films need good photography to help develop the story. The cinematographer（电影摄影技 师） is the person who is in charge of shooting the film. He or she makes sure that the photography supports the story. The cinematographer has a lot of responsibility and leads the teams in charge of lighting and cameras. 

Another important person that we often forget about is the costume designer——the person who designs what the actors wear. The costume designer needs to understand exactly what the director wants and design the most suitable costumes. The costumes have to be comfortable so the actors can move easily, but at the same time they need to match the characters the actors are playing. It's a job that requires imagination（想象）, research and you have to know how to make things!

It could be said that the most important person in the creation of a film is the producer. Without a producer there would be no film at all! The producer steers the film through all its stages. He or she finds the money to support the whole film and also works closely with many other people behind the scenes. During the whole filming process, it is the producer's job to make sure that everything goes well. 

I' ve never understood it, but it's certainly true that a lot of people spend their free time giving money to stores. You' ll probably find your local shopping centre full of people every weekend, families arguing with each other, teenagers hanging out with their friends and bored couples killing time. Almost everyone's there! It's also a fact that shopping helps our economy(经济)— when people stop spending, that's when we know there's trouble coming. 

However, it seems that shopping may be becoming less popular than it was, certainly with young adults. Talking to lots of my friends these days, they tell me that they shop less than their parents' generation(一代). When I asked them why, I got a few different answers. Some said that they just don't have the money and need it for other things. Others said that it was probably because it felt like a waste— it's clear that we have more things than we need already, so why get more? One friend said that it was because he felt like he was always being pushed to buy new things by advertising on TV and social media(媒体) and that he just didn't like that feeling. Another friend said he shops less because he cares about the environment— buying fewer things means less waste and pollution. A few of these friends also expressed another idea— they felt that their generation is less interested in"material things" than the earlier one and more interested in experiences. 

I don't think shopping is going to disappear from our lives any time soon, but I hope that people are beginning to spend more time doing other things. My parents recently started going hiking at the weekends rather than going to the shops in town, so maybe there's hope!

A British couple had a lucky escape（避险）last week after they were lost at sea for five terrifying hours. The couple, both in their thirties, were starting a ten-day diving（潜水）holiday off the coast of Indonesia. With its warm waters and kinds of fish and other sea life, this is an excellent place to go diving. 

Jim and Sally Brown were looking forward to their holiday but on their first morning, they had a frightening experience. That morning, the Browns went out with a dive boat and entered the water to explore. However, after only a short time under water, they had to go back up to their boat because the sea was getting wild and they couldn't see well. However, when they got to the surface, their boat wasn't there anymore. Unknown to them, it was taking other divers to different places along the coast. 

The Browns were only a short distance from land but they had to swim away from the shore to avoid some nearby rocks. Then the waves pulled them further out to sea, the sky went very dark and it started to rain. Their five-hour terrible experience began. 

When people realized that the Browns were missing, two helicopters（直升机）and more than 20 boats started searching for them. After five hours, the group of one of the boats finally saw them. They pulled them out of the water and took them back to land. They were thirsty and tired—but they were alive!

According to Sally Brown, they were afraid they were going to die. They were looking out for sharks the whole time. "We'd like to thank everyone who looked for us. We're very grateful, "she said.

On Nov 13, people celebrated the 900th birthday of Lu. Born in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), Lu was one of the most prolific (高产的)(poet) in Chinese history. About 9, 300 of his poems are still around today and many of his poems (fill) with a desire (渴望) to protect his homeland. 

As a politician, Lu tried his best to offer (advise) to the government. At that time, the Southern Song Dynasty was invaded (入侵) by the northern Jin Dynasty (1115-1234). Lu (speak) out against the Song government's weak response and called for fighting back. However, he was (quick) demoted (被降职) because of his strong opinions.

Maybe I should just let my daughters be creative and mix things up sometimes. 

"Keep calm and carry on"-You can see this message written on many T-shirts and other tourist souvenirs(纪念品) in London and the rest of the UK.  Some examples include:"Keep calm and drink tea";"Keep calm and love dogs";"Keep calm and learn English". As you can see, you can substitute(替换) the"carry on" part for anything you want, really!

 Well, it comes from World War II. It was a message used for a poster created by the British government to calm people down and encourage them during the war when London was being attacked(攻击). The idea was to carry on with life as normal, as if there was no war. 

Staying calm when you' re in trouble is known as a very British thing to do. British people are famous for keeping a"stiff upper lip".  You stay calm and don't show people how you are really feeling. 

Are British people still like this today? Do they still keep a"stiff upper lip"? Modern Britain is very different from how it was 60 years ago.  But if"Keep calm and carry on" is still so famous today, then it must be something that British people still think and care about. So next time you are frightened or in danger, just keep calm and carry on!

①Imagine taking a long space trip with your pet. How do you both stay healthy in such conditions like microgravity (微重力) and space radiation (辐射)?

②That's where space-based animal research comes in. On Oct 31, China's Shenzhou XXI mission (任务) carried out with four mice aboard. This is the first time China has sent mice into space for experiments, following earlier missions with fish and flies. After the mice return with the Shenzhou XX spaceship, scientists will further study how space affects their bodies. 

③Mice are good for space research because they share genetic (基因) similarities with humans, need little room and reproduce quickly. Also, given their short life, six months in space for a mouse is like over 10 years for a human. This allows scientists to predict what long-term space influences on humans in just months, rather than years. 

④But not just any mouse can become an"astronaut". These mice are chosen for their excellent performance during 60 days of training. They pass physical tests, like riding an"exercise bike", and some other tests, such as solving mazes(迷宫). 

⑤"The animal work is helping us understand how to live a better life in space, making it a healthier reality, as well as helping us study a few illnesses that affect us down on Earth, " Julie Keeble from King's College London told Understanding Animal Research. For example, space is perfect for studying osteoporosis(骨质疏松), as microgravity causes bone loss 12 times faster than on Earth. In 2017, a study with mice on the International Space Station found a treatment that slowed bone loss and helped new bones grow, offering hope for keeping humans healthy both on Earth and in space. 

⑥In the world, sending animals to space began in the late 1940s to see if any life could live the high rocket speeds or the microgravity and radiation in space. Today, studies go further. 

In ancient China, during 475B. C. —221B. C. , wars often broke out between different states. King Zhao of the State of Yan (燕昭王) had a problem—He wanted to get talented people to work for him. When he asked a smart man named Guo Kui for advice, Guo did nothing but began with the story of buying horse bones (骨头) with 500 pieces of gold. 

There was once a king who wanted a special kind of horse. This horse could run 1, 000 li a day. It was called qianlima. The king sent many people to find these horses and buy them for him. After three years, nobody found him such a horse. 

One day, someone new volunteered to help. Within three months, he heard about a qianlima. He hurried to find it, but the horse had already died. Still, he bought the bones of the horse with 500 pieces of gold. 

The king was very angry. "What I want is a live qianlima, not the bones of a dead horse！"

The man said quietly, "Imagine this: You' re willing to pay a high price for a dead horse, let alone a live one. This shows people you truly wish to buy the horses. Just wait and the horses you want will come very soon. "

That was true. Within a year, many qianlima owners brought their horses to the king. 

After telling the story, Guo told the king that he could see himself as the bones of the horse. "If I am valued, more talent will be willing to serve the state, " he said. The king built houses for Guo and took him as a respected teacher. Soon, more talented people such as Yueyi, Zouyan came to help the king and made the state strong. 

In February 2025, American Internet star named IShowSpeed(Speed for short)planned his journey across Chinese cities. 

Speed's China tour began in Shanghai, where he streamed live (直播) on March 24th. With the help of a local guide, he visited the city's famous landmarks and was amazed by the city's towering buildings and wide streets. During a high-speed train ride through the tunnel(隧道), he experienced how stable China's Wi-Fi connection is. He couldn't help shouting, "This is fantastic!"

Xia: What is a common day in your work like?

Wu: I mostly work indoors, studying climate data and running models. But sometimes I need to go out into the field to set up instruments for research. 

Xia: Thank you. Professor Wu. And I have another question: Can I really predict tomorrow's rain?

Wu: The weather system is quite difficult. Few people can predict correctly. However, we can learn to recognize different cloud patterns to see if it' ll rain. 

Cai: It's my turn. Do human activities make a difference on Earth's climate?

Wu: Climate change is caused by human activities, but it doesn't mean we can't do anything. By reducing carbon emissions(碳排放), developing renewable energy and improving the use of energy, we can gradually move toward a more climate-friendly future. 

Guo: What challenges do you face when working in Antarctica?

Wu: The freezing temperatures, strong winds and heavy snow can make instruments stop working. 

Guo: Sounds terrible! So your life in Antarctica is difficult, isn't it?

Wu: No, in fact I have a wonderful life. We organize activities to keep spirits high, such as group movie nights, sports events and BBQ with researchers from nearby international stations.
