Long ago, some fishermen set out to cross the sea in their ship. One of them brought his pet monkey along for the long journey. 

When they were far out at sea, a terrible storm broke their ship. Everyone fell into the sea, and the monkey was going to die. Suddenly a dolphin appeared and picked him up. 

They soon reached an island and the monkey came down from the dolphin's back. The dolphin asked the monkey, "Do you know this place?" The monkey replied, "Yes, I do. The king on the island is my father, so you must treat me very well. "

"That's a lie," the dolphin thought, because he knew no one lived on the island. The dolphin said, "Well, well, so you are a prince (王子)! Now you can be a king!" The monkey asked, "How can I be a king?"

As the dolphin started swimming away, he answered, "That is easy. As you are the only animal on this island, you will certainly be the king!" In the end, the monkey died on the island alone. Remember that we should be honest in our life. 

Reading is really important. Hopefully, we can get  (知识；学问) through reading, which not only broadens our horizons, but also makes us  (有判断力的；明智的) and happier. Moreover, our school studies can be greatly  (影响) if we keep reading, and our future will become brighter. 

However, some students spend too much time  (使用) their mobile phones to listen to music, watch movies or play online games. So I would like to suggest that everyone should do more reading of good books,  (尤其；特别) Chinese classic novels every day. In this way, we can  (传播；展开) our Chinese traditional culture. Meanwhile, we can enrich our minds quite a lot by reading regularly and it is also good for us to get fully developed and it can help improve our writing  (能力). Surely, we can read books  (独自；单独), or with our friends. 

All in all, doing reading does us much good if we do it from now on, and it is strongly suggested that we should make reading a  (习惯) of our life. To carry a book with you wherever you go is old and good  (建议). John Adams asked his son to carry a book. "You will never be lonely," he said, "with a writer in your pocket. "

Become interested

Find something  about your English study. Why not  your favourite English films? You can also read the lyrics (歌词) of pop songs, or check out celebrity sites (名人网站) to learn more about your favourite basketball or football . 

Don't study for too long

Studying 15 minutes each day is much  than studying 2 hours once a week. Studying  much more fun if you do not feel tired. 

Learn through reading

Read English texts as  as you can. They could be news, short stories or . Choose an interesting text that is not too difficult for you. Learn through movies and songs. Choose your favourite movie. Have paper and pen ready  you may want to write down some useful words or phrases. Listening to your favourite English songs is  way. Read first, and then find out what the song is about. Pick some words or phrases that you'd like to learn. A dictionary may also be useful. 

As we all know, China is the Kingdom of Bamboo.  There are about 1, 200 kinds of bamboo in the world and about 400 kinds are in China. 

People in ancient China used bamboo a lot in their daily lives.  In the Shang Dynasty, Chinese people began to use bamboo to make beds, chairs, chopsticks, spoons, baskets and so on. Before paper was invented, people wrote on bamboo.  Besides, bamboo shoots （竹笋） could be made into popular dishes, because they were delicious. It was also easy to find bamboo in Chinese medicine. 

Today we can still find bamboo products all over China. 

Bamboo is tall with thick leaves. People like bamboo very much. They often plant it in the yards and in the parks.  And it can also stand the cold of the winter. It is also a plant that can grow in poor soil. 

Through the centuries, bamboo has always been a subject of many poems and paintings. People admire it for its purity （纯洁） and elegance （优雅）.  In fact, bamboo makes Chinese culture rich and colorful. 

This is a tale of two friends — one is blind, the other has no arms. On their own, the two are "disabled". But together, they are a powerful team that has changed part of their village in North China's Hebei Province into a rich, green forest. Meet 53-year-old Jia Haixia and Jia Wenqi!

Their story began in 2000, when Haixia, who was already blind in his right eye, lost his left one after an illness. Wenqi lost his arms in an accident when he was just three. Neither

could find a job, so the two decided to team up. They rented some poor land and began to plant trees. In return, the local officials paid them a small fee. Haixia and Wenqi never imagined that they would end up creating an environmental paradise. Their forest now has over 10,000 trees, hundreds of birds and many other wild animals. In addition, it saves the village from river flooding during the rainy season. When the friends work together, they focus on their strengths not their disabilities. Their day begins at 7 a. m. when the sightless Haixia carries Wenqi across the river to get to their worksite. Since they cannot afford to buy young trees to plant, the two use branches from existing trees. Haixia climbs to the tree-top and with Wenqi's direction, selects the perfect branch. He then digs a hole and carefully plants it. Finally Wenqi waters the area. 

Though hard-working, the men don't make much money. But as Wenqi puts it, "____"

Neither Haixia nor Wenqi cares about money. Together, they already have everything they need — a perfect pair of eyes, two strong hands, and the best friendship in the world!
