Get to know each other

Be polite to others

Learn to respect other people. When people help you, say "thank you"to them. If you can't help them, you should also say"sorry" to them. Listen to others when they talk to you. Don't play with your phone when they talk to you. 

Do things together

What are your hobbies? Share them with others and ask people to do some interesting things you like with you. You can play games or do sports together, not just with your family.

Last year, our science teacher, Mr. Lee, s starting to plant something behind our school. She thought it would be a great way to c nature with people. We all thought it was （方便的）since the empty land was just near our classroom building.

We started by （聚集） old tools and seeds from our homes. One Saturday morning, we  old tools and seeds on the ground and began our work—clear the weeds and turn the soil. But a few days later, we found that birds had (偷) eaten some of our seeds. We felt a little angry. But Jenny, one of our classmates,  (有礼貌的)suddenly asked if we could cover the area with nets. We all agreed.

China's new hit TV show To the Wonder was adapted（改编） from My Altay《我的阿勒泰》written by Li Juan. It tells the story of Li Wenxiu who  to her hometown of Altay to live with her mother after failing to become a writer and having  work. She then found the  of life and her love in Altay. The beautiful grassland views and  life shown in the teleplay soon made Altay one of the top tourism  among young people. The travel website Qunar（去哪儿网） said that flight ticket bookings to Altay  20 percent last month, and hotel bookings doubled on its platform.

All around the world, families celebrate special days together. Traditions for these days  (be) very different. Some of them may surprise you.

Families in most countries have a special day to celebrate mothers. In Serbia, this day is on  second Sunday before Christmas. On that day, children sneak(溜） into their   (mother) bedroom and tie her feet with ribbon（丝带） so that she can't get out of bed. Then they shout, "Mother's Day, Mother's Day! What will you pay  (get) away?" Then the mother gives  (they) small treats and presents as payment so that the kids "free" her.

Mick Polly, an owner of a toy store, lives with his teenage daughter Carolina in Kentucky. He is known 1 the Blue Man. Over the past five years, Mick has built hundreds of bikes for the needy kids.

One day in 2022, a 13-year-old boy with a 2 bike walked by Mick's house. "I was working in my garage(车库）, and he asked3 I could fix it," says Mick, now 53.

US mathematician Dan Meyer believes that a cart full of items doesn't tell the whole story. "Every person needs a fixed amount of time to say hello, pay, say goodbye and leave," he said. And that amount of time is about 41 seconds per person.

Each item in the cart only takes 3 seconds.

This means if there are five people ahead of you, each with 10 items in their carts, the waiting time will be 355 seconds. But if there is only one person ahead of you, with 50 items in the cart, the waiting time is 191 seconds. You do the math.

According to US science writer Robert Samuel, around 90 percent of people are right-handed. That means they will naturally choose lines on the right. So heading to the left will give you a better chance of finding a faster line.

Scientists have been trying to make soft and friendly robots, like Disney's Baymax, for years. And they have finally done it.

The "octobot" is the world's first soft robot. It is not like the scary, metal robots in movies like Star Wars or The Terminator. Instead, it is made of soft material, and looks just like an octopus.

Octobot is also the first robot that controls itself without batteries or wires, according to its researchers at Harvard University in the US.

The hope is that one day, soft robots like this will help humans do difficult medical surgeries and save lives in emergencies (紧急情况）like earthquakes and storms. 

Humans won't be in danger of being hurt if the robot accidentally touches you too hard. The octobot gets power from a chemical reaction(反应). It pushes gas through the robot's body and makes its legs dance. They used a 3D printer to create its silicone body.

"Humans ourselves, we're very soft and soft robots are made of materials that are safe for us to interact with," PhD student Ryan Truby, one of the octobot researchers, told BBC. Terry Trimmer, the editor-in-chief of Soft Robotics, told NPR that, "Soft robots and soft material technologies are certainly needed if we expect them to help us in the home or in natural environments."

They may not all look like an octopus in the future, though. Scientists have studied jellyfish in their research so far.

Last month, I returned to Australia to attend my elder sister's wedding. Although it was a very modern wedding, my sister kept on a tradition that comes from an old English poem. The poem says that a bride must wear "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue". It is said to bring good luck to the marriage.

Something old is something passed on from the bride's family. It could be an heirloom that has been in the family for years, or a piece of her mother's dress. This is meant to show a connection with the bride's family.

Something new brings hope for the future of the couple. It can be the new wedding dress, or new shoes. Something borrowed is normally an item of clothing or jewelry. It is borrowed from one of the bride's friends who has a happy marriage. It is believed to bring some of the friend's luck in her marriage to the bride.

Last is something blue, which comes from another rhyme: "Marry in blue, husband be true." This means that a bride who wears blue will have a faithful husband. It could be blue on her jewelry or on her shoes.

These days, most brides do not believe that wearing these items will really bring them good luck. However, they wear them anyway in recognition that traditions are important.

Because of global warming, all kinds of pollution and human activities, some beautiful sights around the world may not be seen in the future. Let's have a look at them before they are gone.

Everyone wants to become better, so do I. To become a better me, I start by believing I can succeed. When I meet a problem, I tell (me) hard work turns challenges into chances. For example, when I find it difficult to learn maths well, I keep doing maths exercises instead of (give) up. Up to now, I  (improve) my maths scores by 15 points already.
