We all want to live comfortably and safely, so here are a few simple rules for residents. 

Rubbish—Rubbish collection is on Tuesdays. Please do not leave rubbish bags out before Tuesday as birds and animals can break into them and they smell terrible. 

Washing—There is a washing line for every flat in the garden next to the car park. Please only dry your washing on these lines so it does not disturb people in the ground floor flats. 

Cleaning—▲The main stairs are cleaned twice a week by the Association, so please try to keep them tidy and clean and do not leave furniture or bags on the stairs or in the hallways. 

Lights— The main lights are on a timer and they stay on for five minutes when you press them. Please tell the Association if any lights are not working. 

Noise— Residents are asked to keep noise to a minimum. Loud music, for example, can disturb other people and the Association will get in touch with you if you make too much noise. 

Safety— Make sure the main outside door is always locked and do not let anyone into the main building unless you know who they are. 

Parking— Each flat has one car parking space. These are numbered and are

It was raining heavily, and Karthik was alone at home. The sound of thunder（雷） was so loud that it felt like the gods were1 in the sky. This scared him a little, so he took his favorite2 , Harry Potter, from the bookshelf.

Do you know where this photo comes from? Well, it (take) on Easter Island. The island is in the south of the Pacific, and it is very difficult  tourists to find its position. It is covered with (hundred) of huge stone statues. Each of them weighs several tons and some are more than 30 feet tall. , nobody knows who (build) these statues and why and how they got there. 

It seems  the statues have been made out of the top edge of the walls of a volcano(火山) on the island. A statue might have been rolled or dragged down to the foot of the volcano. Then, it was stood upright and ropes were tied around it, which was made (act) as a pulley(滑轮). Over a period of months, a statue could be walked for miles down to the ocean. In the end, it was placed in line with other statues, all of (they) looking towards the center of the island. 

Today, Easter Island (remain) one of the most famous historical places. It is like  open-air museum, showing a fascinating but unfortunately lost culture. 

Have you ever heard of UFOs? A UFO is an object or light seen in the sky or on land. The UFOs are often described as the aircraft( 飞 行 器 ) of the aliens, too. It is said that their (位置) often change and their speeds are so fast that the aircraft on the earth can't run after them. There have been many tales about the UFOs. Some people said that they had seen the UFOs (着陆) on the earth, and that they made a big (噪声) when they flew over. Some people even said that they were taken away by the aliens whose ( 目 的) was uncertain. Although there are other similar UFO reports every year, nobody can truly provide (有价值) information. However, this can't ( 阻止) the UFO fans from studying them. They always ( 表达) strong interests and are full of ( 精 力 ). Whether the UFOs truly exist is still a (奥秘), and it will take humans a long (时期) of time to find it out. 

As I walked to the market this morning, I saw an old man sitting in front of a tea shop. He was not 1 anyone, but sat there just watching the traffic. His clothes were a little dirty and his hair was 2 and untidy. I supposed he was a beggar(乞丐). I thought to myself that on my way back from the3 , I should give him all my change. A few meters away was a young man 4 on the side of the road. No one who passed by took any 5 . I  thought it was some good-for-nothing drunk who had wasted all his money on alcohol(酒)．

I watched the beggar walk to the tea shop, stand at the door, ask for a piece of 11 and a cup of hot tea, and pay for them with the money I had given him. 12 went back to the young man, helped him sit up,13 him some bread and gave him some tea. Then he came back to his old place and sat down．

I was still standing there. The beggar noticed this and said to me, "That young man has not eaten for two days and has no 14 even to sit up. That's why he is lying on the road. "

15 , I felt so small and admired the poor old man. He was truly generous, actually more generous than I. Then I learned that we should never just look at the surface of things．
