I'm Daisy. Last week, our science teacher Mr. Smith taught us the importance of electricity(电) and gave us a special task: to try living without(没有) electricity for a weekend. Our family thought it was interesting, so we decided to do it together.

It was really hard to live without electricity. After it got dark, my little brother and I could only read and write by candlelight. We usually watch TV together on Friday nights, but the TV doesn't work without electricity. We also found some food in the fridge went bad quickly. On Saturday morning, we even had no milk or yogurt for our breakfast. At noon, the room got hot, but we couldn't turn on the fan. We even had to wash our clothes by hand. It was really tiring.

However, there were also nice things about living without electricity. On Sunday, we went on a bike trip and visited my grandparents in the countryside. We fed chickens and picked apples on their farm. Also,we played chess together. At night, we sat under the stars and listened to my grandpa's stories.

This was a really interesting experience, but I cannot imagine(想象) living without electricity for more than a few days.

Teenagers can choose from many different sports to have fun and keep fit. Doing sports helps them feel good, have a healthy life and build skills. 

Swimming is popular(受欢迎的) and fun. It works every part of the body and is good for the heart.  There are different swimming styles to learn, so you can improve your skills over time.

If you like doing sports in a team, basketball is a great choice.  It's very popular with teens because you don't need many things. And you can hang out with your friends and get fit at the same time.

Cycling is another popular teen activity, both for fun and for good health. It is good for your legs and your heart.  Teens can cycle on their own or with friends, and they can join a cycling club or take part in races.

My hometown is on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (青藏高原). The geography here is amazing. It is famous for the world's highest mountain. But this area is also full of the most amazing colors in nature.

The color white meets your eyes all around. The clouds are clean and soft, like our white sheep. The mountains shine brightly in the sun, like white sea waves.

The lovely blue of the sky always gives me a calm (平静的) feeling. It is like a great sea above the plateau. And words can't show my love for the rivers and lakes. There are many kinds of blue in the water.

Our grasslands, forests and fields are all green. When I was a little boy, I always ran around and had a great time. That's why green is my favourite. It means hope because it is the color of life. But green is not just the color of nature now. Trains are running through the plateau. They are this beautiful color, too.

The plateau is quieter than the big cities. We have fewer shops and restaurants. But we have the best things from nature. In my heart, it's better than any other place. I'm proud to say that I'm from one of the most beautiful places in the world.

Hello, everyone. 

Starting April 30, tourists can walk on the Great Wall of China at night for the first time this year. The Badaling Night Great Wall in Beijing will reopen with exciting new shows and activities. This special night tour will run until October 6. At night, the ancient wall lights up like a huge dragon winding through the mountains. 

The most attractive part of the tour is a live performance of an old Chinese legend called ' Meng Jiangnyu Searches for Her Husband'. The story is over2, 000 years old. It tells of a woman whose husband died while building the wall. Her sad crying was so strong that it made a part of the wall fall down. Tourists can also meet actors dressed as Ming Dynasty soldiers and generals. At the post station, guests can write their wishes, and a ' messenger(信使) soldier ' will deliver them to the wall. 

There is also a fun ' tea and horse trade' fair from ancient times. It allows tourists to learn about life on the frontier(边疆). At the same time, they can play some joyful games. The main show, ' Bonfire by the Frontier', mixes Mongolian dance with modern music. In the end, everyone is invited to join hands and dance together. The manager of the Badaling Culture and Tourism Group says the goal is to give tourists a special way to enjoy the Great Wall and its history. 

One cloudy summer morning, I was travelling with my parents by car and nobody warned us about a landslide, and we didn't make any preparations before it hit.

All of a sudden, a strong noise came from themountain above. Dad stopped the car quickly, Some big rocks rolled down the hillside, with small trees shaking wildly in falling dirt. Dad tried to drive the car backward but falling rocks blocked the road. He stood ready to try again, yet more mud(泥) kept sliding down and stopped our way completely. Out of breath, we hurried to a safe roadside cave(洞穴). 

Looking out, part of the mountain road was nearly covered under thick mud, with falling stones and broken trees. We stayed inside the cave and didn't return to the car in order not to get injured. But when the sliding speed slowed down, small rocks started to beat against the cave entrance with scary noises. Then muddy water poured down along the road and the mountain turned as dark as if the end of the world had come. 

By the time it finally stopped, the outside scene was the worst I'd ever seen. The mountain road looked terribly messy: many guardrails were broken, many trees fell down, and several cars were destroyed by fallen rocks and mud. 

When nature showed its temper, we could really feel its power. We are all children of nature and we must always show our respects for her.

The research studied 58 people who love bird-watching. Both groups included people of different ages, from the 2 0s to the 70s, and were similar in education. 

During brain scans(扫描), volunteers saw a bird photo for less than four seconds.  This test was done 72 times, with 18 different kinds of birds. 

The expert group successfully picked out 83 percent of local birds and 61. percent of non-local one.  The scans also showed differences in brain structure:the areas responsible for attention and working memory are more compact(紧密的) in the experts, no matter the age. These areas also"lit up" when the experts tried to pick non-local birds-something that did not happen in the beginners' brains. 

A 2025 study found that the brains of dancers appeared over seven years younger than their actual age. Al models also showed that even short-term creative learning, like 30 hours, can" turn back time" for the brain. "Creativity shapes not only culture but biology, ' the scientists wrote on The Conversation. 

Wu Oi, a graduate(毕业生) in computer science fromNanjing University, had a good job. However, Wu everyone in 2006 when he gave up his job and used dogs to help out people in need. 

Wu Oi's story began at age nine, when he rescued a dog. As a child with mild autism ( 轻微自闭症), he had always found it difficult  with people. However, that dog became his friend, helping him open up to the world little by little. 

In 2012, after Wu Qi appeared on TV with his dog, a special  came to him . She said that her daughter, who had autism, refused to speak to anyone. However, she started to talk after watching the show. Deeply moved by this, Wu made a decision to start his program, Paw for Heal. 

Until now, Paw for Heal over 5, 000 therapy dogs, providing services for more than 150, 000 people, including autistic kids,  workers and elderly people with Alzheimer's(阿尔兹海默症). An elderly Alzheimer's lady remembered every dog from his organization and greeted them every time they came. She said, "I knew our efforts were worth it. "

The success of this program actually depends on the active teamwork of the volunteers who are  to give their time and love. Wu hopes that more people will join his program to make a difference to  lives. 

Swifts live mostly in the air. These small birds are one of the fastest animals on Earth. In fact, swifts can go two or three days without touching the ground! To get used to life in the sky, swifts use their speed and the saliva(唾液) in their mouths. 

Swifts can fly faster than 100 miles per hour. That's because their wings are wide and long. This shape of the wings helps them to fly much faster. They can also move one wing faster than the other, which allows them to make fast turns without slowing down. Making fast turns helps swifts catch flying insects to eat. 

The saliva helps swifts catch insects to feed their babies. It is sticky, like glue. Swifts often fly into clouds of insects and open their wide mouths to catch as many insects as they can. 

Swifts also use their saliva as glue to build their houses. The birds catch feathers in the air and stick the feathers together to build a strong house on the side of a building. Swifts short feet are not good for walking or standing on the ground for long. But their strong claws allow them to stick to rocks and walls, so they can take a short break before returning their lives in the sky.
